Smiling? Hair?

Okay, I already posted once, but I did have a couple of more questions as I head into my first competition this weekend!

Do I need to "smile" when I do my routine? I'm coming from a pageant background where you smile every second you're on stage. Is this expected in skating?

Also, as for hair. Do I just need to put it up in a bun, or are other hairstyles acceptable as well?

You can smile as much as you want as long as it reflects the mood of your program. Your hair can be up or down, it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't affect your skating.

Figure skating is not pageants.

Thank god for that ha ha. I got tired of being judged on how I look and walk, and I really wanted to be judged on actual skill for once.

I appreciate the input. I really wasn't sure if there were guidelines or anything of the sort.

There will be guidelines for costumes and hair/makeup as you get to higher competitive levels, but it's not anything you have to worry about for a long time.

Have fun and good luck! :)
