Listening that playlist is like being transported to completely different world. Some very interesting and original choices there. I like Conan Osiris gipsy (or Middle East) moments in the song :agree:
yep all are very unusual sounding to my ear
He seems to be the frontrunner (Conan)
Look him up on youtube
some of his (or rather his dance support) is hilarious!

Yeah, it's weird but interesting. He will be memorable for sure
However, Bilal Hassani won the French selection, thanks to the public votes (international jury voted for Seemone the most ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCJRigN2DmI He has personality and that's good  But the song is some generic pop cliche without any original moments... and he can't sing well in higher registers i'm afraid :noshake:

Australian here (though still trying to work out when we became part of Europe and if we are when they are going to let Japan in) and as a HUGE fan of both Kate Miller-Heidke and Ella Hooper, I'm torn... I think Kate, though I really can't see it winning, but she is so fabulous, deserves the bigger stage

I repeat my thought from 2 years ago. We need to move Australia somewher closer to Europe. Seriously. This is not a joke! :)

Finland is sending Darude.

Big names haven't done as great as expected in the past, it'll be interesting, he can't play Sandstorm after all

I was listening some songs from national selections these days and i agree Australia presented very good songs. I prefer Electric fields, but Kate Miller's song is also interesting. Courtney Act is a great act - i would never say its a man behind her  Than i saw s(he) competed in Australian Idol, Rupaul's Drag race and even won UK Celebrity Big Brother  A lot of homages to Dana International at national selections this year, we will be in Israel after all ;)
UK national selection is just, well, not that good...
From Belarus national selection i found those two interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUawb30k5BQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx-42kpaW7A
From Latvia this is my favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIjAVh-p0Bg and this is so funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcKgR2A2E00
And from Italy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsX_hoApNlQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSjep_Uc6aE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itnCqVnoz1M
Seemone and Conan Oziris are still on my everyday playlist tho

Hearing "Sandstorm" always brings a smile to my face. It's not that it's the type of music I am normally into, but more the fact that it is always played at the start of each race at the Ulster Grand Prix (e.g. 2010, 2014, 2016)

But, I agree that acts that are already big names in the music industry don't normally do well at Eurovision. Just look at what happened when the UK was represented by Engelbert Humperdinck (25[SUP]th[/SUP] in 2012) and Bonnie Tyler (19[SUP]th[/SUP] in 2013). Or when Ireland was represented by Nicky Byrne from Westlife (15[SUP]th[/SUP] in Semi Final 2 in 2016).

Since she hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, Cyprus is being represented by Tamta Goduadz. The song is called "Replay", but I can't find it for you to hear anywhere. (I make a point of not listening to the songs myself before they are performed at the Contest)

Yes, you're right. That is not a Cypriot name. She is actually Georgian, and is based in Greece. Well, using an Albanian that is based in Greece was a successful formula last year, earning a silver medal no less. So you can't blame them for doing something similar this year!

But, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that somebody from Cyprus is actually competing, but is representing Greece. If happens quite often.

I think Electric Fields were a better choice. They are on my play list that's for sure :agree:
Mahmood won in San Remo, Italy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvJUrrMgyGs Didn't like it that much at first, but with more listening i quite like it
Today I'm listening Serbia's preselection and songs are OK with nice ethnic flavour, but not that diversive... This is my favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bNUuEtV6mM and this sounds quite emotional too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BBhztVEp8o

yep Electric Fields were better
I like Kate as well but it has no chance to win like EF did.

Slovenia picked amazing song btw!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Ci3nrBdno
I hope it can be top 10 in the end

Latvia sent a boring song by Carousel :bed:

Croatia disappointed me with their choice of a boring song as well (& I liked Jaques Houdek's own song a few years back but this one is lacking:()

Liked the Serbian selection as well. But nothing that sticks immediately with you. I only got my favs after several listens.

Btw did you know that Saara Aalto takes part in a skating with the stars kinda show in Finland!:jaw:

So winner of Ukranian national selections won't be singing in Eurovision after all :roll5: That performance at national final was really something  and i'm pretty sure she would finish in top 10 at least https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po5NQ4OzzzI But sadly there was no agreement between the singer and Ukranian national broadcaster. Shame on them or whoever didn't let that girl to sing in Tel Aviv!'Don't get too political' is what Danish representative is saying to them in her song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgA2BqvwEcI (she is skating in a song's official video btw)
