Hi all!!

I am in the market for a new pair of boots. My Riedells are over 10 years old, and while they aren’t in bad shape, after a decade and 2 kids, my feet shape has changed and they no longer work for me. I’ve had my eyes on the Ice Fly (and my coach loves them) but I’m nervous about making the switch. Does anyone have any experience to share? Was it difficult to get used to?

Have a professional fitter work with you to see if your foot is even compatible with Edea boots.

It could be worth going to a pro shop or fitter that specialises in multiple brands and keep your options open. When I was looking to change out of my Jacksons, I got fitted for both Riedells and Edeas at Nationals. I didn't have a preference. Turned out Riedells had too narrow an ankle for my fat ankles, while putting on Edeas felt like sinking my feet into pillows, but everyone's feet are different.

Check the best fit column for the shape of your foot in this link: https://skaterslanding.com/pages/comparing-figure-skates-by-fit-design
Think about whether you have wide or narrow feet, high or low arches, Greek foot or Roman foot etc... Pick some brands out of this, pick boots at your level and try them on.

Why Ice Flies? I understand your coach loves them but he or she might have a complete,y different foot to yours. Don't get something because it's popular. I know Edeas are all the rage right now but it's not for everybody.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at that!!

I tried on a pair of Ice Flies and I loved how they felt and how light they are. I never liked Harlicks or Jacksons. It’s been over a decade since I bought a new pair of boots though.

Ok that's good to hear. Then you could go with them. Take a look at this also: https://www.homeiceboston.com/boots which talks about flat feet, arches, bunions etc...

My first boots were Jacksons and I didn't know any better then but my foot type was totally wrong for the brand. It felt good when I got them but 2 years later I knew they weren't the right boot type for me. So have a look at these resources and pay careful attention to your foot type.

I was super skeptical about Edea since they were so trendy at my rink my gosh do I love them! Loved my Riedells as well but they took forever to break in and I could not afford to waste that much time. I have the Chorus and am never going back!

thank you for sharing this!! can anyone give me an idea of how much new jackson or edea boots cost nowadays?

also- can anyone attest to how edeas fit for wider/flat feet? i'm thinking jacksons might be my best bet when i get a new pair, but i know edeas are very popular.

You can find Edea prices on Skates US as they are the primary US dealer.

You can find Jackson prices on Kinzie's Closet. However, often times your local pro shop is actually cheaper than ordering online because their price includes blade mounting, water proofting, heat molding, and any punching out etc and sharpening usually.

ETA: Jackson stock boots are split width so a D width in the ball has a C width heel. Edea does not do that. They are the same width size ball and heel. You definitely want to try them both on!

I just ordered a size of Edea boots (in Canada) to try. I am changing skates .. I currently have 18 year old boots and blades lol from Graf and MK blades. They served me well but I was looking into lighter materials and that is why I chose Edea. I am also going to John Wilson blades too. I am excited to feel the difference. I have yet to fit them properly but in the next week or so , when they come in I will be. As for prices , I cant speak for USD but the Ice Fly model I am trying runs around $899.00 CDN. The Gold Seal blade is $674. My feet are pretty normal in size, nothing crazy with width or anything so I can't see it being a problem.

I was always in Risport as a kid. Tried Ice Flys when I came back to skating because they were trendy and because I found a lightly used pair for a really reasonable price. Honestly, I couldn't get used to the ankle. I couldn't get used to the lacing structure. I didn't feel supported or secure. They never quite did it for me, either because my feet aren't appropriate for them or because someone else wore them before me or in a recent discovery, because they were the wrong size and width. Either way, I'm personally not a fan of the Ice Flys that I have, but perhaps my mind would change in a pair that fit me correctly.

I'm back in Risports and happy with the classic design and feel, though heavier for sure.

Has anyone switched to the edea flamenco (dance boots) from jackson (I am in the freestyles). I think I will be okay with the edea boot but I haven't seen to many reviews on the flamenco in particular

Klingbeils, which aren't made anymore IIRC (I used to wear and loved them), are nothing like Edeas.
