I returned to figure skating after a long while competing in speed skating. The only pair of blades I own from my old ice dancing days are Jackson Dance boots with Jackson Dance blades but they're pretty old and broken down and I would prefer blades that I can actually jump in.
So if anyone got tips on buying blades that are:
- suitable for synchro
- has some REALLY deep edges

- a nice toe pick for doing 1axel+

that would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Look into the MK Dynasty. It's designed for Synchro. JW Coronation Dance is another choice, but I wouldn't be jumping on them very much. Apex Synchro is another choice.

Good luck!

You might find some NOS (New Old Stock) Jackson Synchro blades that could work. You won't get the lean angle shown in your picture though!

I bought a set a few years back to measure and experiment with. Here's a photo of mine... http://www.afterness.com/skating/images/blades_jackson_synchro-6-800px.jpg

The toe picks are straight cut, compared to the cut of my Coronation Aces... http://www.afterness.com/skating/images/skate_toe_pick_comp.jpg

You can see that the Jackson's, shown on the right, are adequate for toe jumps. Unlike some dance blades, they are about the same thickness as my Aces. They should handle jump landings just fine.

I'd agree that synchro blades are probably the best compromise for your current needs.

One thing to compare on the few pairs of synchro blades you narrow down to being your final list of choices would be stanchion height. A higher stanchion is what allows you to get down low on the edge.

Yeah I didn't think I could get that low on figure skates either... Might be fun if some manufacturers can put 1" ROHs on figure skates though, I would imagine those edges would be insane.

As a pro and former elite, I get very deep on my edges, it is possible if you know what you are doing.

The ROH can be varied by changing the wheel dressing setting on most major commercial sharpening machines. So you should be able to get a figure skate blade ground to a 1" ROH.

I regularly sharpen and profile my own speed skates and hockey skates so I don't know why I haven't tried sharpening my own figure skates yet. I can probably adjust the rocker and the ROH however I want and the stone and jig setup I have is probably way better than the machine they use at the pro shop anyways.
