It really doesn't look like it was on purpose tbh. Looks like Mariah didn't even realize she clipped her and is really into her program/ run through. Doesn't look like a stabbing like initially claimed.

It could be an accident in a crowded rehearsal area adjacent to the main ice rink. The venue, Saitama Super Arena, is usually utilized as a venue for big concerts by music bands. There is no room to swing a cat in the makeshift rehearsal area, which is unusually small compared to other major ISU events. Accidents are bound to happen under the circumstances.
