Since when does Eteri beat her students until they are bleeding? Since when do her students have to drink water from the toilet, because there is no other water available? Does she give her skaters injections to prevent menstruation?

Yes, Eteri's methods can be questioned, but as far as we know she never abuses her students the way the Karolyi's did. They were a whole other league of evil.

And what severe water restriction and so on has to do with Eteri?
Its quite common in elite sports, so if you want to bash, bash them all.

I'm not saying it is good, but it is ridiculous how just one coach gets bashed while it is something extremely common.
The point is that it does not excuse any team, but crucify one team/coach for such practices while they are basically standard is ridiculous.

The Russian Ladies thread is for discussion of Russian Ladies skaters. Do not engage in extended conversation about coaching techniques in this thread, or those posts will be deleted. If you wish to discuss "coaching techniques", you are welcome to create a separate thread in the Edge.

Continued discussions of this nature will be removed without notice.

I agree about extended conversation on a topic. But there will be conversation on a topic because we're all human and we all have opinions. This last incident just kept going and going and going unfortunately. The good thing is people here are passionate and want to voice their opinions on skating matters and on coaching matters and everything in between.

My question is can Alina hold off the Russian young guns next season with her experience talent savvy and confidence of being number 1 two years in a row? I think it's doable. Hard but doable.

Tarasova said those things with regards to Alina's world championship performance last year word to word.

Here are Tarasova's words to channel:

"After Olympics Zagitova grew 3 cm. She doesn't understand it. Puberty doesn't exist. You just need to eat less."

https://www.kp.ru/online/news/3061392/

Oh, God! That was sarcasm from TAT. It’s just not obvious for those who doesn’t speak Russian. Alina’s interview was heavily discussed in Russia. Fs specialists know that puberty does exist and were skeptical to Alina’s words as were many fans. But she is only teenager and just repeated what she heard from her coaches.

I think it depends on what you mean by holding off the young guns. If you mean still be the #1 Russian lady, I think that will be incredibly difficult (not impossible, but not likely). If you mean still making the Euros and Worlds team, that's much more doable.

I think that if she skates clean and consistently she will make the teams absolutely, even without a quad. Now, staying a number one on the team is going to be harder. If she doesn't get a quad (which would be hard to do considering she's hardly going to be in Russia this summer), then she'll have to be almost perfect, of course depending on how the upcoming ones do. I want all four of them to be on teams, but I really want Alina to make it to prove all the people saying she's done wrong. And because I love seeing her skating, of course.

She proved at Worlds she can pull it off when it really matters, now it's a bit different cause she won gold on every competition, it will be key to find the motivations to continue, to see how far she can last as a champion. We know she is working on 4F, that will help her to still compete technically with the newcomers.

So, my contribution to positive stay-on-topic discussion will be: top russian ladies are talented, they work hard and they have professional coaches.

No need for snark.

As the previous thread stated, you are welcome to create a separate thread for extended conversation on "coaching issues." This has been mentioned many times throughout the season, and this "discussion of coaches" has been relegated to mostly one. This, in effect, derails the threads (rants, assumptions, and opinions of one coach in particular).

The point is being missed. The only coach we see mentioned here is Eteri. This thread has been derailed several times due to excessive discussion about the coach. It's perfectly fine to have a "mention" of her as needed, but not to create thread drift with ranting and raving and discussions about her methods, eating disorders, speculations, etc.

It's pretty simple folks!

No need for snark.

I mean what I say. If there was my comment without sarcasm during the last couple of days, it was this one. I'm a huge fan of russian ladies and their teams (well, maybe excl. Buianova...:) ), and esp. Team Eteri, because her ladies drove me to figure skating. That's why I became a user of this forum, to share my interest in them with others.

Alina might be behind Anna and Sasha on her TES but she's still the moral leader of the Russian team right now and also has a PCS advantage. Of course, the PCS of the juniors will rise during the upcoming season but I think that getting the 3rd spot for Euros and Worlds is totally achievable. In my opinion, Alena Kostornaya is in a bigger trouble than Alina (if the last keeps her consistency) because her technical components are lower than Alina's and their presentation score would be equally good. Speaking about WC I think this time it gets a little bit tougher because there we'll most probably have 2 Russians with quads, 1 Kazach with a quad and 1 Japanese with 2x3A. Still, this season proved that anything is possible and pressure does have a big role in the outcome of competitions. I can only add that I am very excited for the upcoming season.

I think only one of the Alena, Alexandra, Anna will make the team. Clean Anna scored 230 at Russian Nationals. If we consider some senior boost she can go near 240. This score is doable by three current senior skaters. Then we have illnesses, cups, mugs, votings, and other stuff... So I will say it's not so predictable.

Alina still has plenty of time to rise her BV. She already started to learn quad flip. Of course I cvan't predict how succesful she will be with that, but as we know her she is very competitive and if she would want to win, not just participate, I'm sure she will do her best to master this quad. And even without quad she is still nearly on the same level as others with 1-2 3As or one quad, so she definitely is one who has to be counted with.

With the number of quads Sasha has and her success rates I predict she's definitely going.

The next 2 spots I think are possible for a number of skaters:

Anna has a good chance, only if her consistency increases or she adds a 3A and more quads.
Liza Tuktik with 3 3As will be much stronger. We know she can do 2 3As and she got them back surprisingly quickly after her illness, with 3 3As she will definitely beat the ceiling of all names below.
Alina has the highest PCS and her TES is the strongest possible without a 3A or quad, she has already shown she can be clean with it which matters, even if her BV is lower.
Alena could get a huge bump in PCS but as it stands Alina's content is harder, and almost as consistent. I don't see her PCS being higher than Alina's regardless. Not sure if she's working on a 3A this season.
Medvedeva is more unknown and an outsider. She could get back PCS just as large as Alina, and she has a Lo combo now. The Lutz is her biggest issue. If she can fix the edge enough to add 2 more then she would be just as competitive as the 2 above her, otherwise chances are very unlikely.

As it stands I think Sasha, Liza and Alina will make it to Worlds, but nothing is guaranteed.

Do you guys think RusFed will send the same team to Worlds and Europeans or go Japan style and split it up?
If Zhenya doesn’t get Worlds or Europeans, what do you guys think she’ll do?

They didn't send the same team to Worlds and Europeans last season either. So I see no reason why it should be different in the upcoming season. They might name the same teams at first, but depending on the circumstances I think the teams can always change on rather short notice.

Unless Tarasova says different, they will send to both events those who will have the best chance for medal. Last season was quite different due to Liza's health and the result of russian championship, which was won by juniors, but I hope everybody will be healthy this time and whoever will be on the podium on the rustats it will be senior, very probably :)

I think if they have three clear leaders of the teamafter nationals they will send the same team, but I can see several situations where they would not.
Firstly if one skater that they want on the team misses nationals and/or europeans due to injuries or sickness and that person got healthy in time for worlds they would switch.
Secondly if someone "bombs" europeans (failing to medal) and they have several strong alternates they might do some sort of skate off.
Thirdly if the results are verry close between nr3 and nr4 at nationals and they have had similair results throughout the season I can see them reevaluating which of them to send to worlds (3rd goes to europeans in this senario). If this coincide with the second scenario Im almost certain they would switch.

Yes I am talking about if she can remain Russian number one and world number one! She can do it but like you said snow it will be difficult. But things were still difficult this year and Alina overcame.

I think it'll be much harder for Alena to be on the team than Alina.
