Ayaka Hosoda. Went from being known by only the most diehard of Japanese figure skating fans, to (likely) making her international debut at the age of 24.

Kaori Sakamoto made a really impressive leap in her artistry this year. The contrast between her programs last season and this season is pretty noticeable, and the growth in her PCS this year was well-earned through hard work with Benoit Richaud.

I thought the same thing. The only ones who disagree with this are the judges [emoji19]

The obvious answer is Tursunbaeva. She had the most spectacular turnaround - from an average skater with no significant achievements for years to Silver World medalist and the 1st senior lady to land a quad in competition.

Props to her on the quad, that's good stuff.

Otherwise, though, I don't see a ton of improvement in her overall skating compared to previous years. Better results are not always a result of better skating. ;)
