It’s unusual to announce a coaching change without having settled on where you’re going (especially if there’s no bad blood involved).

I agree, very odd.
Just an odd, crazy whimsical idea... he is about to perform at All that Skate in Korea, where Javi will also perform. And Javi has expressed an interest in coaching... putting two and two together.. just a coincidence?
I know very little about Nathan, he seems - like the rest of last years' top men - to be a generous, essentially nice young man. But that he and his people would be agreeable to his coach working directly to improve the prospects in Beijing of one of the men who beat him in Pyeongchang? - even a saint would be hard-pressed to sit still for that.
Talking about coincidences: this week summer camps of both Team Tutberidze and Mishin start and this can - but doesn't need to - be in relation to the date of Shoma's statement…. The gossip (?) of a Japanese skater moving to Eteri was discussed here a while ago. Mishin however is the one who is experienced in having Japanese skaters at a camp. And Benoît Richaud is a second coach for the camp, which could be also interesting for Shoma.just a coincidence?
Oh I like the idea of Mishin!! And I see a choreography of Benoit Richaud quite interesting/fitting for Shoma!!!! I hope that is the case!
Mishin is too old. What about fairy tale: Issunboshi escapes wicked witches of East and goes to Glinda Tutberidze. It is such a pity that in real life, he'll go to Orser or Zakrajsek.
Oh, I don't think the issue would be Nathan himself - he seems a nice enough young man. I just think Nathan is Rafael's Chosen One and he'd be unlikely to take on a direct rival.
Mishin, as others have mentioned, would also be a candidate if you’re talking about top jump specialists. I’m sure he’d love to have a top man again. Though Shoma has quite a different style than your typical Mishin skater.Though in terms of jump technique improvement, I can only think of Ghislain, Rafael, Mao's former coach(the one who helped her rework her jumps).
Very curious about the announcement that he is leaving before deciding; I don’t think I’ve seen a skater do that. Best of luck in your journey, Shoma:hap85:
