Mishin, as others have mentioned, would also be a candidate if you’re talking about top jump specialists. I’m sure he’d love to have a top man again. Though Shoma has quite a different style than your typical Mishin skater.

I really cannot imagine Shoma going over to Russia to train. Esp with all the language barrier. A Russian coach based in US yes, live in Russia, no.
Japanese skaters over the years have gone to US or Canada to train. More recently Europe with Lambiel.

Shoma has been working on his jump techniques on a part time basis with Alex Ouriashev. Does Alex still coach anyone full time? Just a thought since I have no idea if this will be a good fit for Shoma (full time).

I believe he does, yes. For example, Pooja Kalyan, one of the US junior ladies.

I don't think Nathan and training direct rivals would be the reason to prevent Shoma going to Raf but I wonder what would Gogolev's parents think of another top skater taking Raf's time after leaving Lee Barkell and TCC in order to get more attention and 1-on-1 training for Stephen?

Shoma said he won’t go to Alex this summer, so...

Just curious, could he go to Mie Hamada? She has the most successful Ladies, is she training Men?

Pooja Kalyan and Maxine Bautista work with Alex and are considered up and coming skaters, but Shoma has expressed an interest in working alongside top level skaters. I think the male skaters would challenge him more, and I am thinking that's more of what he is looking for. He had a very good working relationship with Alex, and they stabilized his 4T and added the rolling 3's entry, and they polished up his 3A very nicely. Now he's ready to do something different, and I envision him working with Raf. I don't see any problems with him and Nathan being together. It would be helpful to have Marin and (brother) Taichi Honda there too...As far as Tom Z., I think they were trying to recruit him for Team Raf. Not 100% certain on that. Another plus is that Raf's training center has 3 hockey size rinks and one Oly size rink, so getting ice time shouldn't be a problem.

I hope he does not go to Stephane Lambiel full time. He needs a more technical coach. Stephane will be good for choreography but not for jumps.

With Yuzuru and Javier, it wasn't quite this case; when Javier came onto TCC I believe Yuzuru hadn't even won his first World's champion or GPF. Javier himself wasn't even really that well known in the international circuit.
Javier was at the TCC before Yuzuru.

What if he goes to Orser? Low probability but less likely things have happened.
I think that would be mainly down to whether he wants to train at the same place as Hanyu. Hanyu has trained with rivals before, and Orser was going to make a big project of Jin Boyang until that fell through, so he’s clearly open still to taking on new big-name male skaters.

However, Orser’s schedule has also become quite full and required a lot of juggling in the last year.

Hey el, what about Shoma and Rohene?! :eeking: :agree:

I think that could be marvelous:clap:

And can you imagine the costumes? Shoma and Rohene fighting each other for the Bling o meter:laugh:

Oh, but it would be so interesting to see how Shoma, a top male skater, does with Eteri & Sergei!
Plus, there will be another chapter in the Orser vs Eteri battle. Last season it was Medvedeva vs Tursynbaeva, and the next one it may be Yuzuru vs Shoma! The drama potential is so huge!

The timing is interesting. I wonder if JSF is still putting out feelers or if there are hard offers out there that they're considering. I actually think Shoma is a tough athlete to place. Given his current position as a top tier talent who needs to rework years of unsuitable technical habits, he would likely have to become the top male priority of the coach. At the same time, he still needs access to quality choreographers. If he doesn't want to go to Ouriashev, it's hard to rule any possibility (except Raf) out. I could see him doing something gutsy.

Hope Shoma makes the decision that will bear the results he aspires. I will miss seeing him in the K&C with Mihoko H., who, I have to say, was always so well-composed and looked supportive no matter how Shoma skated.

What about where Daniel Grassl trains on the Italian Austrian boarder? Young Goose Academy with Benoit Richaud. If he went there he’d be a top priority and Grassl has pretty good technique in my opinion.

However it’d be the same problem as his current coach in that they don’t have much high level experience other than Grassl who is an up and comer.

My other suggestion is where James & Cipres train in Florida - Fontana and Zimmerman- with Kevin Aymoz and Maé Bérénice Maité The improvement they’ve all made is astounding.

Shoma needs a great technician. I don't see him going to Raf or BOrser (I could imagine Raf being willing to take him, but I don't think BOrser would because he has too much to worry about already). Then again, maybe he wants to train alongside his biggest rivals?

Alex Ourashiev seems like a reasonable choice, but I'm not sure if he has the experience needed to be the primary coach for a skater at Shoma's level.

Honestly, I think Mishin would be the best possible choice for Shoma.

It's Eteri.....
Or not. Ouriashev helped him to become a serial quadster, so it can be him.
