My number 1 will always be Mao Asada. I cried when she announced her retirement and I was so surprised about my reaction. Didnt expect that xD

I also love Yuna Kim, Rika Kihira and Liza Tuktamesheva

Nice to see Mao finally being appreaciated on this board. I know it’s not exactly news and it’s been like this for a while, but what a nice change compared to the times when both Mao and Yuna were still active and the war between their fans was in full heat.

Katerina Witt and Maria Butyrskaya.

I still am agog over the professional event where Ms Witt essentially stood around for like 70% of the program, posing and cooing. "Let me show YOU just how cute and sexy I am." Tempo Change. Slow turn. "Now let me show YOU how adorable and sexy I am." Pause. "Oh wait, I should throw in at least a token jump and spin....There! And now let me show YOU just how artistic and sexy I am..."

And she won the bloody thing!

Agog, I tell you. Absolutely agog.

I'm no ladies specialist (Pairs is what I cheer for), and I even skipped some of their events in the past - although I have been more interested the last few years. So, here's my list, though not from a true connaisseur. Only retired skaters. That's why Carolina is not in there, because I don't know if she's really retired.

Michelle Kwan
Irina Slutskaya
Midori Ito
Kristi Yamaguchi
Katerina Witt
Sjoukje Dijkstra (I am Dutch you know)
Peggy Flemming
Janet Lynn
Lu Chen
Yuna Kim
Mao Asada

No issue I just have no clue who they are and I am Canadian and love a handful of Canadian skaters.

wow... i guess you need to catch up :)

they are both wonderful skaters, great skating skills and power.... both are at canadian champions (3 times for josee, 2 times for cynthia).. both went to the olympics.. .both got a personal best placement of 5th in the world.... both could have gotten better results but were not super consistent....

josee had issues with nerves but when she hit the first jump, could skate clean... both reach GPF, josée even won bronze at her GPF... both have medaled atGPs... Josee won IDF and Cynthia won SCI... cynthia was a canadian champion at a very young age... in 2003-04.. but her coaches decided she wasn't ready for worlds... she went to junior wolds instead.. however, she won silver at 4cc.... unfortunately for her, she grew and lost her momentum... she is about 5'8 which is very tall for a skater and led to a lot of injuries... and during that time, Joannie rose to the top in Canada... Cynthia won her second national title in 2010-11...

finally both ladies had great powerful lutzes and wonderful presentation. you can ask mrrice ;)

what is the issue? i have benevolently shared who are my faves... isn't that what you asked for?

Don't worry, I know exactly who you mean, and Cynthia is one of my faves, too.

For ease here, I'm eliminating everyone who's still competing as an amateur.

Lu Chen
Michelle Kwan
Sasha Cohen
Carolina Kostner (I know she hasn't officially retired, but I don't see her returning)
Kaetlyn Osmond
Liz Manley
Katarina Witt
Yuka Sato
Lucinda Ruh
Joannie Rochette

This is one of my favourite program's of Cynthia Phaneuf's, despite the one fall:

Many people thought this should have won her the bronze medal at worlds

As a baby at 4CC. This moved her up from something like 12th to the podium

She also did an absolutely beautiful program to Claire de Lune, which I can't find.

well....to each his own I guess. most figure skating before the 80's is very boring and unappealing to me except toller.

Well I obviously agree about Toller being aopeaking, interesting and downright

I listed only Janet from personal reasons: she is the first skater I remember watching. Even before Toller. And she changed the sport, just like Toller. Not too many skaters can say they actually *changed* the sport (and I don’t mean the first to do 85 mega bazooka jumps in a program, I mean Changed. The. Sport. But Janet Lynn can)

And I don’t follow the ladies enough to really have all time favs. The men, however
