Russian pair skaters Anastasia Mishina, 18, and Aleksandr Galliamov, 19, won each competition they entered last season with the exception of the Russian Nationals where they placed a respectable fifth at the senior level. The talented team is now moving up to the international senior level, although they still have one year of junior eligibility left and are very excited about taking the next step in their career.

The team will be keeping their free skate to The Master and Margarita, but will be skating their short to music by Lara Fabian. What are your guesses of what song it will be? :cool14:

This was an interesting quote by coach Velikova of Mishina.

“She is not a born figure skater,” said Velikova. “She is more built like a skier, but she puts so much soul into each movement that I don’t see any deficits when she skates. She brings me a lot of joy!”

Here's wishing them luck in their senior GP debut in France and Japan!

All my 'Davaiiiiiiii's to Nastya and Sasha, but um well Lara Fabian wouldn't have been my first choice... Oh well, I adore the two anyway.

However, we need to do these jumps not only in training, but also land them in competition,” he pointed out. “Many people are publishing videos of jumps they do in practice on social media, but you’ve really done it only when you land the jumps in the program in competition. Training and competition are different, mentally. You can do ten out of ten jumps in training and this still is no guarantee that it will be the same in competition. Nevertheless, we need to learn new jumps so we can make our programs harder.”

I am glad they are very clear about the difficulty of including new jumps in a program!

They seem to be working in a very focused way, with realistic expectations and a good long term plan.

But not Lara Fabian :slink:

Good luck to them in their senior debut!

I don't want to get too far ahead of things, but I think it could be very interesting and fun to watch Mishina / Galliamov and Boikova / Kozlovskii challenge each other.

This is something the discipline of pairs desperately needs: more pairs teams! ;)

I hope they have a great season as they get accustomed to the senior level “swing of things.” I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s foreshadowing the return of Russian dominance in the pairs discipline.

PS: All the popular Lara Fabian songs frequently used in skating desperately need to be KILLED WITH FIRE!!!

I’d like to order similar music choices to that of Mariah Bell and Carolina Kostner’s recent Celine Dion programs. Plz and thanks. :)

I think their throw jumps are really good and doesnt need to be upgraded to quad. Their SBS combo jump is where they need lots of improvement. It's difficult but it's always a hit or miss.

I wonder what Mirzoev is doing these days.

I actually met Vladislav Mirzoev end of May in St. Petersburg. He is coaching (mostly working at Yubileini Ice Rink with younger skaters, but he'd like to get to coach pairs eventually) and he is also serving as a technical specialist at local competitions.
