Dorota Siudek (née: Zagórska) (Polish pronunciation: [dɔˈrɔta (zaˈɡurska) ˈɕudɛk]) and Mariusz Siudek are former Polish pair skaters.

Dorota was born on 9 September 1975 in Cracow, Poland. Mariusz was born on 29 April 1972 in Oswiecim, Poland.

Dorota and Mariusz are the most acclaimed Polish figure skaters. They are the 1999 World bronze medalists, two-time European silver medalists (1999, 2000) and two-time European bronze medalists (2004, 2007). They also won nine national titles and multiple medals in the GP events (11 bronze and 2 silver medals) and other ISU events currently falling within the Challenger Series. They were the first Polish pair to medal at the World Championships. They also participated in three Olympic Games (1998, 2002 and 2006), their best result being the 7th position in Salt Lake City 2002.

Until 2003 they trained in Oswiecim under Iwona Chruscinska-Mydlarz. Then they moved to Montreal to train with Richard Gauthier.

They teamed up in 1994 and retired in 2007. Initially, they planned to retire after the 2005/06 season. However, they decided to compete one more season because the 2007 European Championships were assigned to Warsaw, Poland. It is when Zagórska began using her married surname, Siudek (Dorota and Mariusz married in 2000).

Upon retirement they started coaching in Torun, Poland. Among their students they can list Stacey Kemp / David King.

Mariusz Siudek is an ISU Technical Specialist in pairs for Poland.

I've just opened a thread for the most acclaimed figure skaters from my home country. Since I have updated or created threads for many wonderful skaters from all over the world, I thought why not creating a post-retirement tribute thread for the best skaters Poland's ever had? So here it is. It's still under construction as it needs videos to the programs, but I hope to finish it over the next few days. Enjoy :)

Awwww, thanks for opening this thread and a trip down memory lane for me :thank: I remember them very well from my childhood, they had some awesome twists and lifts. They were known for winning bronze medals at GPs and never qualifying for the final, poor dears.

Their lifts were the best!

And while remembering great Polish skaters, do not forget Grzegorz Filipowski either. :)

How could I? :) He was our first big figure skating star: he won bronze medal at the 1989 Worlds, and two European medals: bronze in 1985 and silver in 1989. However, I didn't want to mention him in the Siudeks' thread. It's possible that in the future I will also open a thread for him, but since I try to be away from Men threads, this may take some time :)

As regards Dorota and Mariusz, yes, their lifts were something special back then when they skated. I remembered that even once ISU invited them for a seminar for the judges about the lifts. That was a big privilege for them because it proved they were highly appreciated in the figure skating community.

Dorota and Mariusz now dedicate to coaching. They have a son and he also trains skating (last year Mariusz and the boy appeared in one of the breakfast TV programs and talked about how it is to train under your own parents). Who knows, maybe in the future we'll see him on the rinks?

It took me longer than I expected, but I finally finished Dorota and Mariusz' OP. I've added all the videos I could find and detailed results. Enjoy :)

Some time since you posted this, but I want to thank you anyway for all this. An enjoyable trip along memory lane! You can easily see who were the inspiration for many current skaters in the lifts!

I think their son is competing in the Advanced Novice Men's competition in the ISU section of the Tayside Trophy in Dundee, Scotland this weekend.

Ryszard SUIDEK (typing error?)

The Advanced Novice Men's SP is due to start at 12:21:00 GMT (13:21:00 CET). So 20 minutes from now.

Ryszard is the third and last skater to start.

Due to the stream getting a copyright claim slapped on it, I didn't see Ryszard's Short Programme. But I did see a photo of him and Mariusz sitting waiting for the results. And there is no doubt that Ryszard is Dorota and Mariusz's son. He has his Mum's blonde hair, and facially he is the absolute picture of his Dad.

It is so good to see the children of skaters following in their parents' footsteps. 🥰

Tayside Trophy Advanced Novice Men's SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Ryszard finished 3rd out of 3 in the SP, with a score of 27.14.

Although he is sitting in last place, it should be pointed out that there is only 3.84 points covering the entire field. So, he could still win this!

:cheer: WELL DONE RYSZARD!!! :cheer:

The Advanced Novice Men's FS is due to start at 11:45:00 GMT (12:45:00 CET). So 4 hours from now.

Ryszard will be the first skater to start.

He is due to start at 11:51:00 GMT (12:51:00 CET). So 4h 6m from now.
