The best moment in the video with Egor

He wants steps! - Daniil ironically emphasizes the "steps". Like, look at him - our kid wants to get into the big league:)

That's right, Egorochka! It is right! - Eteri with a smile of a proud mother supporting her beloved son. Just listen to it - "Egorochka" [sweet Egor, or sweet little Egor], and who calls Eteri the ice queen? :laugh:

Look how tall Maya is :)

Having a team of same age friends around you is one of the benefits of being part of a large group.

And it's a part of Tutberidze effect, same age skaters trying what friends can do. Healthy competition.

From the Goncharenko interview:

"Eteri managed to find such a working order, where children come to the ice every day and fight. They fight for the elements, for her attention, fight with themselves and with each other. Therefore, her athletes are so steadfast and stable in competitions."

They may fight with each other, but they are also comrades. Not necessarily friends, but they share the same passion and pride and won't let anybody that take away from them. United they stand tall.

I am interested to see how sustainable it is for these young women to maintain their friendships/working relationships with each other at the senior level. I think it must be very difficult to see your competitors every day if you yourself are struggling. Eteri will have four senior Russian ladies this year. What will the #4 girl do? How will she handle being #4? Or maybe the competition will be close enough that there is no #4? Last season we saw Trusova/Kostornaia/Shcherbakova all trade places on the podium, with no clear #1. But what if one of them begins to fall behind, or maybe Alina does? I think maintaining a friendly atmosphere will be tough. Of course Eteri can manage it through a lot of discipline, and the girls all know how to behave themselves, but it's difficult to imagine that it won't breed a lot of resentment, jealousy, stress, etc.

It all depends how the girls grow into their characters and personalities as adolescents and young adults. Nothing if for certain, but I don't think there will be a powerplay sort of plan by setting the skaters up against each other. That won't work over long time when you meet each other daily. Figure skating is a highly individual sport, each skater has her own strengths and weaknesses. The skaters all work for themselves in the first place, #TeamTutberidzeForProgress will see to that. Individual, but not isolated because you can be certain everybody keeps a keen eye open, spying on how the others are doing. When they grow older, they learn to accept the differences I hope.

This new season it is all open and everybody gets an equal start of sorts. But I can still remember Kostornaya saying she wished she were born on the other side of the age line, so she could have one year in the seniors alone, without competition of Trusova or Shcherbakova.

Anyway, we'll see at Test Skates how things stand. Perhaps Perviy Kanal will tease us with some clips from training/preparations before the event starts?

I don’t think Alena named them specifically. In her interview at Jr Nationals I remember her saying she wants to compete at seniors but couldn’t do so this year due to her age. I can’t recall her saying she wanted a year in seniors without Trusova or Shcherbakova, but if you have this interview can you please link it?

Who helps Tutberidze: there are no top skaters, but there is a Bolshoi artist and a dancer who works with pop stars?

The Tutberidze team is the main phenomenon in ladies' skating of the last couple of years.

Eteri figure skaters not only collect Gold medals at top tournaments, but also set world trends: for quadruples, for jumping in the second half of the program, for complex combinations.

There are only 6 people in the Tutberidze Team, four of whom work directly on ice. No one in the team has personal students and a narrow specialization: all are interchangeable. At the same time, each coach has priority tasks: Sergey Dudakov is more often involved in tech, Daniil Gleikhengauz is staging programs, and Eteri Tutberidze is leading the process and selecting new students.

In the picture: https://s5o.ru/storage/simple/ru/edt/1f/c1/11/e8/rue63d7d71136.png the roles are explained.

Future Olympic champions and current junior stars are training at the Khrustalniy rink in Belyayevo. Soon they should build an ice palace with two ice rinks - Tutberidze asked Vladimir Putin to improve the conditions immediately after the super-successful (Gold and Silver in the singles, two Silvers in the team) Games in Pyeongchang: “I can’t complain that we don’t have ice, but if we want us to have strong skaters in 8 and 12 years, we need to think about it now. We now have to squeeze everything into the same space. The hall where the skaters have physical exercise needs to be redone from the foundation up, the boys, growing up, cannot jump normally - they beat their heads against the ceiling. ”

The story of Eteri Tutberidze - about how sport should be in Russia

The key to the success of the group - constant thinking about work. Vacation is rather a punishment, after which you never know in what form the athlete will return.
Once, for example, Anna Shcherbakova arrived from the New Year holidays with a broken arm. But even if the skater is extremely careful, they will slowly gain weight without the usual loads and the jumps will go wrong.

Eteri's style is "tough democracy." Responsibility and independence are raised in the students: they do not force anyone to work, but if you do not progress, you will be expelled. Even Zagitova was kicked out of the group for laziness, and when they regretted it and took her back, it became the best motivation for the athlete. Before the Olympics, she “worked as hard as many, many, many men” - these were not even the words of the coach, but Alina's rival, Medvyedeva.

Tutberidze - the creator of the team and its driving force. But it is unlikely that such an impressive success would have happened if people who were so devoted to her and figure skating hadn’t been near Eteri.

Who stages the programs?

Daniil GLEIKHENGAUZ

• stages more than 50 programs per season. He says about the results of his work: “I do not really like the word “ masterpieces ”, but we can say that it turns out to be a special and fitting product”;

• ended up in the Tutberidze team on the recommendation of Ilya Averbukh;

• Invented the first program in the group for Adyan Pitkeyev;

• staged both Olympic programs for Zagitova, and the free program for Medvyedeva. The idea of the famous “Black Swan” was first offered by Gleikhengauz to Lipnitskaya, but she refused;

• He would like to work with Nathan Chen, Yuzuru Hanyu and Mikhail Kolyada.

Eteri rarely invites directors from outside: it is important for her that the program fits the athlete like a glove, and for this the choreographer must constantly observe the skater. Gleikhengauz is the main creator of the group, but each of his ideas goes through the strict control of Tutberidze. Eteri’s favorite program last season is “Girl on the Ball” by Kamila Valiyeva, but this post on Instagram says a lot about her attitude to the productions: https://www.instagram.com/p/BsVnL-9A1tN/

Gleikhengauz is in figure skating since he was four years old: he started in male singles (in 2008 he became the 17th in the Russian championship), due to an injury he switched to ice dancing. After the death of his father he ended his career. The main work was the show of Ilya Averbukh: Daniel skated himself and helped other skaters stage their numbers. When in 2014 Ilya found out that Tutberidze was looking for a sliding specialist in the team, he advised her a talented guy - Gleikhengauz was then 23.

To give up good royalties on the show for the grueling hours at the rink was not easy. But he liked Eteri's group right away - so much so that he was ready to work even for the idea. “It was clear that this was not for a year or two - there is a base, there is a school, there is a team,” the director recalls.

Who teaches jumping?

Sergey DUDAKOV

• I spent all my sports career with Marina and Viktor Kudryavtsev: “Everything happened. We grew up, it seemed that we can do everything, became independent. At times we were hooligans, cursed, argued with coaches. But to get away from the coaches - never. We were different ”;

• believes he really took to the profession thanks to Tutberidze and learned from her how to work with children;

• thanks to Dudakov, in female figure skating, there are now quad Toeloops and Lutz's, as well as two different quads in the same program;

• Sergey admits that he is seriously worried about the departure of students. Athletes, it seems, also do not like to leave him: before quitting the group, Lipnitskaya asked to send her to her final competition precisely with Dudakov.

The brand name of the Tutberidze group is this crazy technique, multiplied by stability. New elements are being mastered there at an impressive pace: Tursynbayeva restored her quad Salchow withing six months after returning to Khrustalniy, Valiyeva completed ther 4-3 cascade after a year of classes with Eteri.

The main jump coach in the team of Tutberidze is Sergey Dudakov. He rarely gives interviews and does not keep an Instagram - someone should be humble, Eteri jokes.

Like many children, Dudakov ended up in figure skating due to poor health: doctors advised sports against frequent colds. At first Sergey was engaged in open ice, then he moved to Luzhniki Stadium and got into Marina Kudryavtseva’s group: “He didn’t know anything, but he moved quickly. And besides, red hair color, and the team should be red. There is such a sign: the redhead brings happiness. "

Dudakov did not achieve much success in sports: he occupied 6th to 8th places in the National Championships, in 1986 he became 7th at the junior World Championships. Having completed his career, he skated in shows: first in the Moscow ballet on ice, then in the English musical The Phantom of the Opera, he even performed on a cruise ship.

Dudakov began his coaching career in Belyayevo - there he was entrusted with a health group. Then Sergey spent five years with Mariya Butyrskaya in Krylatskoye. He returned to Khrustalniy in 2011 - and immediately got into the Tutberidze team. Eteri for Sergey is an example of the ideal attitude to work: “She is always ready to work, 24 hours a day. With her energy, desire to achieve a result, she motivates the rest. ”

Who is involved in choreography?

There are two choreographers in the Tutberidze team: Alexey Zheleznyakov and Lyudmila Shalashova. Zheleznyakov's specialization is modern dance. According to the choreographer, this direction perfectly develops coordination - the main skill for any skater. Alexey likes to share notes from classes on social networks.

Zheleznyakov came to the team before everyone else, in 2010. Shelepen, Lipnitskaya, Pitkeyev, Medvyedeva grew up and left before his eyes. Prior to working with Tutberidze, Alexey danced in pop star collectives, staged performances for Circus on Ice, and taught stretching to soldiers in army service. Sound engineers Kirkorov and Bilan introduced Eteri to Zheleznyakov: his son was then skating in Khrustalniy.

Alexei not only teaches choreography, but also comes up with costumes for skaters. In his workshop, for example, they sewed the same red tutu in which Medvyedeva first performed, then a year later Zagitova (in the Olympic season, Alina competed in a dress specially made for her by Olga Ryabenko).

The second choreographer, Lyudmila Shalashova, is the mother of Daniil Gleikhengauz. She, a former artist of the Bolshoi Theater, came to Khrustalniy thanks to her son. It is unlikely that while taking four-year-old Dania to the rink, she assumed that after 20 years she would work with her adult son on the same team.

The visiting card of Shalashova are Zagitova's ballet programs: “Lyudmila Borisovna works not only with the body, she helps me to fully get used to the images, to feel them. When we decided to stage Carmen, Eteri Georgiyevna and Daniil Markovich warned that I could not just skate this program, but I had to live it. I was not afraid - I knew who would help me. Lyudmila Borisovna and I sampled many productions - both opera and ballet. ”

Since Lyudmila helps her son in the staging process, she often turns out to be the first viewer of programs and gives advice on what can be changed and improved.

Who works with the children?

Two years ago, a new person appeared on the Eteri team - Sergey Rozanov. His face is not yet familiar to all fans: Sergey works more with novices from 10 to 15 years old and sometimes takes the juniors to competitions. In addition, it is with Rozanov the group remains when the coaches leave with the big stars for the main competitions.

Not much is known about Sergey: he performed in solo skating at the same time as Gleikhengaus (until 2008), then appeared in the shows of Ilya Averbukh. Rozanov’s best result in the Russian Championship is 17th place, and in terms of the sum of two programs, Sergey rarely scored more than Zagitova now gets for one free program.

Inviting Rozanov is a logical step. There are many children in the Eteri group - not only juniors, but also novices. Tutberidze has stars in this category already: for example, Daniil Samsonov with a quadruple Lutz and Kamila Valiyeva with her phenomenal flexibility.

There are real kids in Khrustalniy: Nikolay Kolesnikov turned 10 two months ago, Arseniy Fyodotov is 9, but both have already managed to win "Ice Age, Kids".

How are relations with parents built in Khrustalniy?

Attendance by parents is encouraged: according to Tutberidze, adolescents - especially boys - are transformed when they are watched by their father or mother at the boarding.

Skater's work should not end immediately after leaving the ice. A good athlete eats, sleeps and rests properly - and parents can help him with this. Tutberidze ideal student is in a kind of corridor and runs back and forth from family to coach, without finding loopholes.

At the same time, parents should not replace the skater's coach. Tutberidze said that Sergey Voronov came to the rink with his mother and sometimes talked to her right during classes - this bothered the team.

Eteri used to set the example of Yevgeniya Medvyedeva’s family and her mother. Tutberidze liked that Zhanna Devyatova, a former figure skater herself, did not interfere in working moments - staging programs, learning elements - and at the same time she protected her daughter from everyday problems. “Mom and grandma do not participate in the selection of music. The director and coach know how to do it, ”Devyatova said in an interview. True, two months later, Zhenya left the group.

Full immersion in the daughter's sports life was demonstrated by the mother of Yuliya Lipnitskaya Daniela. For the sake of her daughter, she left an established life in Yekaterinburg, moved with her to Moscow - to the group of the then not too famous Eteri. The main goal was the Olympics in Sochi.

Yuliya was growing up, but Daniela’s participation in the training process did not decrease. The first program after the Games from Averbukh, mother Lipnitskaya rejected - Ilya calls this one of the reasons for the unsuccessful post-Olympic season. “Yuliya is controlled very strictly. What mom said was the way it should be done”, Tutberidze recalls and adds: “ If mom continued to dictate to her that she should listen to me, it would be so. ”

It’s sad, but symbolic - the journalists didn’t learn about the end of Lipnitskaya’s career from the athlete, but from her mother.

Discipline is perhaps the main problem of Russian skaters, says Eteri. Athletes do not value time on ice, because it is not they themselves who pay for it, but the state. Tutberidze recalls how in the USA she had to train a girl with a stucture that was completely unsuitable for complex elements - tall, long-legged. Eteri was very afraid that by teaching her jumps, the skater would be injured, and delayed the start of each lesson until she heard: “Already a minute of training has passed, but we are still talking.”

Nutrition is another painful issue for skaters. The trainer cannot check what the student eats - this is what the family needs to do. To make it easier for an athlete to keep fit, especially during the growth period, parents should set an example: prohibit late dinners and high-calorie meals not only for the child, but also for themselves.

Once Tutberidze was asked what the heyday of Russian singles in recent years she connected with the most. Eteri said with a smile: "I just returned to Moscow."

The formula of the team's success is of interest to everyone. Two-time Olympic hockey champion Igor Larionov wants to attend her training, and Shoma Uno flies from Japan to Novogorsk for the sake of training camps.
Aleksey Yagudin believes that it is a matter of toughness and discipline, coach Alexander Volkov explains everything with the obedience and child's weight of the students, and Tat'yana Tarasova - with their courage and talent.

But it seems that Sergey Dudakov explained the results of the team best of all in his story about Eteri: “At the first call, she'll come to the rescue. One call - and she will fall in line without a question. So do we for her. ”

EG gets most of the credit and I'm someone who gives her a lot of credit. but she has a great team around her to make Sambo-70 truly great. The next big test for Sambo 70 i if they can make inroads in men's figure skating.

Rejects vs stars?

Now, will the Test Skates prove that Tutberidze’s “rejects, only average working material” achieve better results than some of those “unearthly talents” of any other glamorous or illustrious trainer?

Because as has been proven in practical studies of the Tutberidze Effect, a hard working plodder in the hands of a competent and honest team of progressive trainers, will always end up stronger than any of those most talented figure skaters with their inflated ego's in the hands of a stubborn coach with outdated approaches and tastes?

Eteri adds a lot to her pupils score wise. No doubt about it. And then when are top pupils end up leaving her which has happened a few times none of them skate as well after leaving her as they did when they were with Eteri. and it's not just being coached by her it's the entire staff is a whole coordination they have is a unit is amazing and the students benefit from that.

Mistress of the Crystal Mountain

At one of the Moscow rinks the Mistress of Crystal Mountain settled herself down

Her cool temper is known all around, and not only by hearsay. Her keen eye distinguishes nuggets from rubble.

She lured Danill, the master craftsman, to her and gave him strict orders - to create from raw material the richest colours, unlike anything we have never ever seen before.
And Daniil has been working tirelessly, in a hurry to complete the work on time.

And now let's look into the Mistresses treasured malachite chest:

- Diamond (Alina Zagitova). Remains unscathed even in the strongest fire. Diamond displays all colours, but remains transparent, like a drop of water.

- Emerald (Aleksandra Trusova). A gem of the highest grade. Attracts attention, captivates the eye.

- Rubin (Anna Schherbakova). A gem of the first order. Noble and luxurious, best paired with diamond.

- Sapphire (Alyona Kostornaya). A royal, noble stone. By its beauty and value it is equal with diamond. Forms a delicate connection with the physical world.

This season we are about to see all this splendour in a completely new light.

Of course not. This is a blog.

This is a little playful blog post. There’s a Russian fairy tale - "The Mistress of the Copper Mountain" (the character of the legends of the Ural miners, the mythical image of the mistress of the Ural mountains, typical "spirit of a location"). In this tale, the gemcutter-master Danila (this name is old version of "Daniil") meets the Mistress of the Copper Mountain, to whom she helps to reveal his talent. Well, seeing a familiar name, the author of the blog joked a little. Name "Khrustalny" (rink on which the Eteri-team works) means "Crystal", so author playfuly called Eteri "Mistress of Crystal Mountain"

P.S. tbh I don't know why Edwin translated here this little playful note. It's more fan-fest's material.

Another teaser from Channel One about the Tutberidze team

Anna Shcherbakova - about performances in Japan and gifts from fans

- Last summer, I was in Japan for the first time.
- Figure skating is very popular there. They even recognized me on the streets.
- I now have two different kimonos. More precisely, yukatas - it's for summer.
- There is not just one kimono, there are a lot of things put on a belt, some kind of ties, towels, a plastic plate, that is, there are so many things that you are standing here and there are three people about ten minutes running around you and wrapping you. So, this definitely impossible to dress by yourself.
- We were given a really lot of gifts. After each show, we left from there with giant packages that helped us carry. It is very nice.
- They print photos, make large cards. Someone made an entire album with photos of the family, with a short program and a free program. There were many different beautiful stickers with wishes. All this is very beautiful.
- After the show, we arrived late, but for another three hours I sorted out the gifts, laid them out so that I could then take a picture so that they fell into one frame. So that each gift can be seen, so that everyone can find their own. Because often after this they write to me, "I'm so glad that you got my gift, that you have it"
- We all calculated. We arrived with three suitcases weighing 12 kilograms each, and left the country with 6 suitcases weighing 25 kilograms each.
- All skaters really like there and in general it is like own separate world. I have long wanted to go there.

Tutberidze finally brought up the perfect skater. Will Kamila outshine everyone?

13 year old Kamila cleanly does quadruple jumps. She already is predicted for victory at the next Olympics. Is she really that good?

In Russia, the boom of figure skating is not waning. It’s hard to find another sport where even junior competitions are of great interest to fans and the media. And in figure skating, even training is causing a stir.

In Novogorsk happened the Test Skates of the junior team of Russia. Due to their age, their participants can’t compete in adult competitions, but among them there are already real stars. And for one girl, experts predict the fight for gold at the Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing - Kamila is that good!
And, of course, she trains in the group of Eteri Tutberidze.

"Girl on the ball" remains

Less than a month is left before the start of the Junior Grand Prix series. At the Test Skates, athletes show the goods in person and receive recommendations from distinguished specialists in order to have time to polish the programs for the first official starts. The top event of the junior show was the performance of the girls, among whom were four pupils of Eteri Tutberidze at once.

In the short program, almost all skaters performed cleanly, avoiding breakdowns and falls. The greatest impression on the specialists was made by 13 year old Kamila Valiyeva, whose “Girl on the Ball” was named by Tutberidze herself the best program of the last season. Coaches decided to keep the program, inspired by a picture of Pablo Picasso, for the debut season of Kamila in the juniors. Valiyeva captivates the audience not only with difficult jumps, but also with amazing sliding. By this parameter, she is compared with Alyona Kostornaya, who completed her junior career last season.

One quadruple, but what a!

In the free program, everyone traditionally waited for quads from the pupils of Eteri Tutberidze. In Novogorsk, only Valieva decided to jump a quad, but her quad Toeloop turned out to be perfect and became a real decoration of the day. Many experts predict Valiyeva a very successful future, right up to the fight for gold at the Beijing Olympics. The Olympic season will be her debut at senior level. Just like Alina Zagitova’s before her golden Pyeongchang.

Another promising pupil of Tutberidze, Alyona Kanysheva, who moved to Khrustalniy from the group of Svetlana Panova this offseason, is only learning the quad at this moment, and she completed the elements in her arsenal not without errors. Maya Khromykh and Dar'ya Usacheva, who also train with Tutberidze, generally showed confident skating, but lost one jump each. Among the representatives of other schools, Kseniya Sinitsyna made a powerful application for a successful season. Her routine turned out to be clean and high-quality, and a complex cascade of triple Lutz - Rittberger showed Kseniya is able to gain high scores.

Failure of the main hope

We are already accustomed to the fact that young skaters are in the shadow of their adult peers and sometimes even inferior to them in points earned. In Novogorsk, the trend has not changed. The headliner of the junior skaters was another pupil of Tutberidze, the current champion of Russia among juniors Daniil Samsonov, but the 14 year old skater could not justify the advances. In his free program, he fell after the triple Axel and the quad Lutz, did not jump another Axel, and also made a mistake in his two cascades. Unfortunately, the other juniors were not impressive either.

Test Skates in Novogorsk will continue with performances by the pairs, but perhaps the main outcome of the junior show is clear to a wide audience. After the transition of the brilliant Trusova, Shcherbakova and Kostornaya to senior skating, the Russian juniors have no core. But, apparently, instead of an approximately equal trio, we get a sole favorite. But one that is able to beat yesterday's juniors of Tutberidze is already at an adult level. Including at the Beijing Olympics.

And to think, it was only two months ago that we had a long thread, "Is Alina Zagitova the Greatest of All Time?"

I think Alexandra Trusova should get her thread before we cast her aside and move on to Kamila.
