Is this the costume you are thinking of?

To me it looks just a tad too see-through right from the get-go. I can see more dance belt than I care to.

It really puzzles me that when people make the design decision to go for white, they don't think to double-line the garment. Its like a white swimsuit - that thing better be REALLY well lined before you go anywhere near the water.

I'm not sure. That didn't look so bad from what I recall. Maybe a later competition that season? Could have been his initial Swan Lake costume from 94-95. But it was glaringly distracting in my memory. Like he was wearing a black thong underneath white tights glaring...

It's a shame that "Tacky" isn't grounds for a costume deduction, because Russian junior ice dancer Ekaterina Katashinskaia, that is one of the tackiest FD costumes I've seen in ages. It's like a half plucked neon yellow showgirl chicken who was given too much free reign with a hot glue gun and way way way too many sparkly things.

Can I sue for emotional distress?

Seriously.

Plus, she’s only 14!

This week Monaghan/Fourati received a costume/prop violation at US Classic International (4 judges + the referee called it, while 3 judges didn't). I guess they took issues with his costume

Whats wrong with it; tacky yes, but is that a deduction?? I am not sure what it had to do with the music and it was not flattering but still. It actually was hard to figue out what it was. Okay Vera Wang's blakc and white would have been sleek and simple. This was like a black and white bad Pucci.

One time a costume problem actually helped a skater. Todd Eldredge fell on a triple Axel and lost a cuff link. He spotted it on the ice and stopped the program to retrieve it. The referee allowed him to restart the program from before the Axel attempt. (They couldn't be sure if the cuff link came off because of the botched attempt, or if was already on the ice and maybe caused the fall.)

On the second try he landed the jump and went on to win the competition.

I remember that competition, a pro-am, I think. Todd was skating to "The Impossible Dream." It gave me the idea to give him a pair of cuff links a year or two later when we saw him skate again! I don't know how he reacted to receiving them since he didn't unwrap the little box right then & there, but I hope he got a kick out of it!

From rules:
(costume) - Must be modest, dignified, not give the effect of excessive nudity and appropriate for athletic competition –
not garish or theatrical in design.

I think, his costume is too theatrical in design.

Or just garish. I looked at the video and it was quite awful (unflattering, ugly, and just WRONG). Are we sure that nothing fell on the ice though? Those two tassels dangling down on each side of his waist were making me nervous that something was going to fall off the costume. It didn't look comfortable either...

Kaitlyn Weaver told a story about using her grandmother's necklace as part of a costume. The clasp came undone, and she skated for a while with the necklace in her hand, before tucking it in her dress.

There may be other stories of skaters tucking stay bits of costuming into their dress(es).

" Kaitlyn felt something slipping along her neck early on in the program. Looking down, she realized that her pearl necklace had come undone so she grabbed it. During the skate, she and Andrew talked about what to do and thought she could throw the necklace over the boards if they got close enough which didn’t happen. She held on to the necklace through not only the dance spin but through the synchronized twizzles changing hands! Finally, during a moment facing away from the judges that she slipped the necklace in her dress: “Once I could feel it against my tummy then I could relax and start skating!” - http://pjkwong.com/catching-up-with/catching-up-with-kaitlyn-weaver-and-andrew-poje/
