Some (male) skaters showed us a kind of duels on the ice (in a step sequence) which were just so beautiful to watch. The best one ever must be Phillippe Candeloro's 'duel' in the d'Artagnan Free Skate at the Olympics in 1998. It got him the bronze medal. This was just so beautiful to watch.

Yagudin (whose overall skate was much better) is a close second in The Man with the Iron mask.

Never mind that he has only one triple axel and two (!!!) quads, I'm interested in the 'sword fight'. That's just so good.

Any others?

I woudn't say any skate Candelero did was that "beautiful" - interesting entertaining but he never had the cleanest jumps, spins or quality skating.

Beautiful skating is rare - Lambiel Chan Buttle and maybe Brown Good skating Hanyu,Nathan et al is more normal.

Haha, I referred just to the duel, I agree his skating as such isn't beautiful but more entertaining and interesting (still one of my favourites). But the duel is. Yaghudin's skate is much more beautiful in that sense. And his swordfight is good too.

Ilia Kulik skated with a sword in his Mortal Kombat exhibition

Sorry, I posted it as well before reading your post. Great performance.

Quite a number of skaters have performed to Khachaturian's Sabre Dance. Here's Plushenko, with some sword-fighting moves in it.

He's so terribly young here. Thanks!

Not exactly a sword fight, but Peng and Jin did an exhibition with an actual sword.

The sword makes its appearance around 1:50 in this video and skates the rest of the number.

Great!

Paul Wylie did a small bit of sword work (at about 2:30) in his 1992 Olympic FS to Henry V. I am posting the CBC link full of interesting remarks on Paul since it is not a often referenced.

I remember this well...he was the big surprise in Albertville. It's still a great programme to watch.

Paul is my absolute favorite male skater - I watched him come up as a junior and then struggle as a senior until 1988 when he hit his stride nationally only to struggle internationally. Finally he got it together for Olympics. It didn't hurt that he skated to much of my favorite music.

:agree:

I love Phillipe's d'Artagnan duel!

To go really old school, here is Brian Boitano's exhibition from the 1988 Olympics:

The music is from The Adventures of Don Juan by Max Steiner.

I just sneaked into the GS archives on Alexei Yagudin and found this little gem:

I think Deedee1 originally posted it (thank you), and it's great. Gladiator with knives, and still some triple jumps. Some great step sequences representing fights as well.
