Ok, people asked us to make a new map for Alyona's SP with a triple axel added.

Alyona added a 3A, so there is a slightly different trajectory in the beginning. And new difficult transitions added before this jump. Alyona skated much better at GP France, her edges were deeper, cleaner and more precise - so we've counted more transitions for her this time.

We've changed the way we mark twizzles. Thank you guys for all the questions, compliments and your ideas.

Enjoy, follow, repost and spread the word here:

We are working on maps for 12 more other skaters. And we are thinking about a few new and fun ideas on more ways to design our maps. Thanks for all the suggestions and new ideas you guys send us. We will have some more surprises for you soon. ;)

Btw, we need more designers (basic photoshop level) and people who can help us to identify all the steps and turns. Right now we are basically team of 3, and one of our teammate left on vacation for 2 weeks. :) Nevertheless we are still continuing to work on our mals in our spare free time. If you want to participate in our little project and want to help us to speed up our map publications in any way, feel free to contact us on Twitter or via private message.

P.S. All maps are free. This is solemnly for our own fun and entertainment for all our figure skating community. =)

These have to be among the most fabulous artwork I've ever seen related to figure skating. They are the kind of things you think about in the back of your mind. . .and now you've actually put them to print.

When I watch competitions on TV, I absolutely HATE when they switch to a view from the ceiling camera, BUT for your project I can see where it could be a very handy view!

New updates! Thanksgiving edition.

This is something what we like to call a "choreo-scheme". It is less technical comparing the previous format, but more aesthetically pleasing.

This format gives us an idea how programs are build "choreographically" and where are those the most beautiful key poses are located. We all can see those choreo moves on TV, but most often it is hard to understand the layout of the choreo routine and where the choreographer puts those moves on a rink. Geographics matter too! Location, location, location! Also we hope this map helps professional photographers to understand where and when to expect a beautiful moment to capture. :) This map as well helps us all to better understand the concept, the idea and the work of a choreographer behind all those beautiful moves and poses we all see on TV.

Now you can track you favorite skater's live performance with a map. Either you are in the arena, or watching at home.

Enjoy this beautuful work and this amazing program we all love so much and Happy Thanksgiving y'all ! =)

P.S. There will be more soon! By the start of GPF we are going to post all "technical maps" of SP by all female finalists. Alina's and Aliona's maps are already published there. Rika's, Anna's, Bradie's and Sasha's maps are almost done. Stay tuned.

Rika Kihira's SP 'Breakfast in Baghdad' skating map. Layout with all elements and transitions color-coded according to difficulty.

This is Rika's skate at GP Canada in Kelowna. Her performance was slightly better here than at GP Japan. Nota bene: North American ice surface dimensions! 61 x 26 m. You can visually compare how narrow NHL size rinks are comparing to Olympic/European standard. Rika clearly felt very limited by its small size - pay attention how close she was stroking near the boards when she was picking up some speed on crossovers before her jumps and before StSq.

We certainly might do her skating map on standard size ice rink too if she performs better at GPF or later in the season.

P.S. We have our maps available in English and Russian languages. Japanese and probably Chinese translations are coming soon.

Thank you soo much!
I tried to find Nathan Chen's and Yuzuru Hanyu's GPF short programs (I have found Hanyu's at Nationals though) yet haven't found them : you cannot do everything at the same time of course.

This is amazing, could you please do Kaetlyn and Alina’s Olympic short?

The first couple of times I saw it I remember distinctly thinking she doesn’t cover much ice. I’m super curious to know if it’s true in comparison.

ISU seems to work with Japan's Qoncept Inc using their "ice:stats" for skating measurements. We saw jump graphics and data during K/C broadcasting previously. At Japan Natls their showed skating maps as well. Their maps seem accurate but not as detail as Alexz's maps. Here's Shoma and Yuzu's SP maps. Yuzu's ice coverage probably is only about 2/3 of Shoma's. Would be interested to see their FS maps tomorrow. I won't be surprised to see similar difference as Yuzu skated quite slow, small, and w/ rest spots at GPF.

Indeed I wouldn't have thought such an ice coverage as Uno's was possible at a short program. This may compell choreographs into changing patterns for next seasons.

Love this.. you can really see the differences n difficulty of overall program and entrances to jumps between Kostornaia and Trusova.

Big thanks to you and your helpers.

Very worthy effort, and the skating maps are almost pieces of art.

I saw this around the web, and now I'm reading where it all started.
Wonderful work.
Thank you!

I find these maps really impressive! Can you give us an overview of how you construct them?

Thank you for a great job!

Yeah, we are thinking to make one big post to describe the way we make our maps and criteria we use how to evaluate steps and turns. (some skaters do messy/flat edges, faulty 2-foot exit edges and etc on some transitions). We generally want to be nice and fair to skaters, but also strict when some particular steps/turns were made not just messy, but completely wrong. We want to be fair and apply equal standards to all skaters.
