This is going to be a toxic trainwreck. I for one am not going to enjoy the Chen-fans and Hanyu-fans screaming blue murder if their guy doesn't win, etc, etc.

Let’s assume Yuzuru is the top vote getter for this event, as seems quite likely. Would he want to participate in this extravaganza, do we think? To me he doesn’t seem like the sort of person who would enjoy walking the red carpet and doing all that Hollywood stuff.

And if he declined to participate, what would the ISU do? Surely it couldn’t require him to appear.

I’m sure the invited skaters will be required to participate.

The gala is always a highlight and this new event seems so unnecessary!

I do hope this works out... Apparently, Ari Zakarian has been working for ages to get this off the ground so it'd be a shame if it goes wrong.

Also Plushy for lifetime achievement award! Even my godmother who I'm pretty sure isn't a mad fan of skating knows who he is and we live in Australia.

Deleted. Not worth trying to share information with closed-minded cynics.

Information is always welcome. But if people are cynical, the ISU brought it on themselves by all the doublespeak in the official pronouncements. To me the bottom line is, we will do as we please and promise to "take into account" what the people want. If that is not the impression that they wanted to give, they should state the rules in a more straightforward fashion.

But you should definitely vote. If they weigh votes according to the total number of votes from your country, and not many Australians vote, your vote could be worth a lot!

I hope fans arent going to take this too seriously. Lol there's probably couple hundreds of fangirls creating a thousand accounts per minute to vote for their beloved idol. The whole thing is just stupid. It seems like the whole thing will just cater to harassing and abusive fans attacking said undeserved winner for winning over their beloved idol who they spend their whole week creating 1000 accounts to vote for.

Just kidding, Yuzu for MVP, Best Costume and Best prograaam!

Seriously - not - I would love him to get Best Costume, both because it would annoy everyone who snarks at his sparkliness (sweetness and light, that's me) and also because it might prompt him to actually get a formal suit that fits for the occasion....

The newcomer will surely be one of the 3A no matter how they restrict the homeland votes, my money's on Trusova.

On the other hand, it's the serious fangirls and fanboys that keep figure skating alive as a spectator sport. Where would we be without them?

Hanyu sells out arenas. I don't mind seeing him get credit for that. I can see a situation where the voting comes down to whoever has the most powerful agency behind them. I hope not though.

As long as they dont start harassing other skaters for winning over their beloved idol because all their hard work came to waste. Supportive is fine but obsessive is not.

Voted from the available choices, Trusova, Hanyu, Scherbakova, B/K — my favourite costume is actually Sakomoto’s Matrix dress but I haven’t seen it on the list

The gala is always a highlight and this new event seems so unnecessary!

Unnecessary is definitely the word that springs to mind. I'd rather they let us vote for non-medalist skaters to skate in the gala than all this stuff.

Who chose the nominees, does anyone know? Was it the ISU itself, or the “star-studded panel” that is choosing the ultimate winners? I read the announcement at the top of the thread, but I don’t see the answer there.

I don’t understand the weighting votes from other countries thing...how can they know for sure where voters live? What’s to stop people from using VPNs to vote? How would they know votes from random countries for Hanyu aren’t really coming from Japan? Why say the country thing in the first place if you know you can’t really control that? It seems like that would just upset people from Russia, Japan, and other countries where Skating is popular. And since this is basically a popularity contest, you don’t want to upset fans in countries where you have a bigger base by telling them the opinions of a nation without skaters count more.

Agree that it is unnecessary but my real beef is Satoko's FS not included on the entertaining category.
