This is disgusting. After the men's fs, a wall containing signatures of Olympics athletes was vandalized and defaced with provocative insults. Figure skating fans are just getting worse with the online harassment of skaters but this is a new level of low. This is no different to football hooligans who graffiti a stadium and smash up the place after their team lose. I hope these imbeciles are banned from all figure skating competitions. https://twitter.com/nataliakitkat11/status/1203397245250310149

Knew right away this would have to do with the men's free skate. Yuzu is such a kind person, a real role model. Do they honestly think he would approve of this?

When your role model stands for courage, kindness, compassion, and camaraderie and you constantly holler on social media about how amazing they are... and you do this. Does not make sense at all.

Charming. Some people really can't be trusted to behave themselves in public.

Yuzuru was so excited to compete them because it was an Olympic venue where his heroes skates. This is such an insult to him for anyone to do this. It’s just a competition. It’s not that serious. And to deface a piece of Olympic history is just tragic.

Twitter is also unpleasant reading. I have already encountered at least two direct threats and one indirect threat towards the judges and at least one comment directed at Nathan that he has killed the sport. I hope Nathan does not log onto social media for a while.

Racism and 'supporters' vandalism are a big problem in Italy's soccer leagues still, and the problem cannot be contained by clubs and authorities it seems, no matter how draconic the measures taken.

There should be CCTV footage available to the police I presume to try and find the perpetrators?

Security apparently caught two Hanyu fans dressed as Winnie the Pooh doing it and escorted them from the building. I don't think that's enough - they should be charged.

Not as bad, but there were some also holding up signs during the medal ceremony where I hope no skater saw them https://twitter.com/skatelove2006/status/1203345239332851713 :disapp:

And people talking about contacting Interpol. About figure skating results. I wish everyone would calm down. It's ridiculous.

And in less-funny, I have already seen two direct and one indirect threat of violence towards the judges, and several remarks with Nathan tagged that he is a joke and he killed figure skating. This is obscene and unacceptable behaviour.

During the national anthem? I don’t really care about national anthems but others do and this is so disrespectful.

I won’t engage in what ifs but I’m not surprised at all. I wish the fans would act like the skaters.

"Fans" plural? Where's the evidence to suggest that this was done by anything more than a single screwball?

No reason to start painting all of fandom with the brush of condemnation yet.

The tweet below said it was 2 Chinese Hanyu fans. Not surprised they were Hanyu fans and Chinese. On weibo (chinese twitter) some of them mock and ridicule Boyang every time he finishes badly - which is kinda absurd considering he skates for their country. Evgenia is another of their target and I'm sure Nathan Chen is getting a lot of stuff from them right now. Today they've reached a new level of absurdity which is surprising considering how high it already was.

If you read Karne's earlier post, you'll see that CCTV captured the vandals.

I certainly do not assign any blame to Hanyu or to the many decent fans he has. I assign the blame to garbage people.

It also serves no purpose to lie. They were Hanyu fans (Plural, two of them).

Two ill-behaved fans graffitiing a wall is not anywhere near the level of football hooliganism, come on. It's not acceptable by any means but you're talking about the biggest fanbase in skating by a mile, and an isolated incident. A couple lunatics acting out do not make a trend. I think cyberbullying is a much bigger (and scarier) issue that has been going on for years now. There really are some deranged people out there, and they are not exclusive to any one group of fans.
