The hotel and Arena are off the main strip, I just Uber/Lyfted everywhere—it was about $10-15 to the main strip. The actual event was right next to the hotel (in an enclosed hallway), so if you were only interested in attending Skate America and nothing else, you really only needed a ride to and from the airport.

The Orleans was so much fun in 2019 and I hope to repeat again in 2020!

Even as an East Coaster, I'm elated! I loved the venue this season, and the flight isn't bad. I'll be there again!

For selfish reasons (living in Southern California), I'm elated with this news! I wouldn't attend events across the country just for skating, but Nevada is close enough and Vegas has a bunch of things to do on its own. I was at Skate America this season (2019), and the turnout was pretty good! I think it's a good location to attract on-edge fans who aren't hyper-obsessed with skating, but would attend because it's Vegas. Hopefully they market this event better to attract even more people!

I attended Skate America this year because it was in Vegas and I'm thrilled it will be there again this year! I worked in Vegas for years and have friends that I stay with. A win/win for me!

I see I'm clearly in the minority, but I have to say I am not happy with this decision. I was so lucky when it was in the Midwest and I went to Skate America three years in a row. Now it's just too far away. Plus Las Vegas has absolutely no appeal to me. It just seems like a seedy, smoky, unhealthy place. Yuck.

I live 15 minutes from the Hoffman Estates venue that was used in 2014 and 2016. Believe me, I was pretty happy about that! On the other hand, except for the one Marriott that was within walking distance (almost a mile away), I believe many people who flew in rented a car. Overall, it didn't seem too convenient. I thought the convenience of the hotel to the arena in Vegas was terrific. I will definitely go again in 2020. I could even see Vegas for Worlds, since they have 3 ice surfaces fairly close together (UNLV, T-Mobile Arena, and Orleans) if they need additional ice for practices. Just dreaming here! I thought Little Caesar in Detroit was a great venue too.

even it's close to me, but the rink is way too small. And the air in the casino. And they're planning to do synchronized skating competition in that tiny rink? why?

Is the Orleans rink smaller than regulation? I would think ISU would require a certain size.

Would I love SkateAmerica in my backyard, mid-Atlantic states USA? yes.

Will I go if it’s in Vegas? Doubtful. Would I vacation in Vegas? No, but lots and lots and lots of people do.

Do I blame USFS? Not at all. When I’m not being selfish, this is a perfect spot. Actually some possibility of attracting that beloved “casual fan”. Something for the diehard fan’s companions to do. Plane access from just about anywhere.

I actually think they made the right decision :)

I had a blast in Vegas last year at Skate America, and I didn't do the casinos and didn't have time to take in shows. But i was really surprised at all there was to do and I can't WAIT to go back. The Venue was PERFECT and I'm stupid excited that they actually LISTENED to those of us who attended!

For people who went last year, how do you get around once there? The arena seems a bit out there and I'm thinking I don't want to be walking back to a hotel at night. Parking in LV is highway robbery, even though car rental is pretty cheap.

Uber wasn't bad, if you're not staying at the hotel attached to the Arena and are staying on the strip it cost me about 13 bucks a trip to the strip. The hotel also has a shuttle but we never used it so I don't know how that worked with when/where you ended up on the strip. I wouldn't walk at night, there were some sketchy people all around the streets on the strip, but I felt perfectly safe walking during the day.

I have heard nothing but good things from the people who actually attended Skate America in Vegas. I think it’s great that both longtime skating fans, and folks who might be in Vegas just looking for some entertainment, could attend.

I did not mean to sound snotty about Vegas. I have actually been there several times, for, of all things, work. And I do not work in the entertainment or gambling industries. I don’t mind the glitziness or the tackiness, that’s part of the charm, and the surrounding countryside, like Red Rock Canyon, can be breathtaking.

It’s just that I have been to Vegas so many times, and I do live on the East Coast, that it is not an appealing trip for me. I think it could be for someone else. :agree:

??? The rink is a regulation size NHL rink - they play regulation hockey games there. Most Skate Americas take place on NHL size rinks because we have way more NHL size rinks than Olympic size rinks.

We especially liked the openness of the lobby at Little Caesars, the setup for food was great, the street car that ran up and down in front of the arena was helpful (even though it was SO cold!). Seemed to be well organized. I would go there again in a heartbeat.

Super excited about this! I live in the West and Vegas is so easy to get to that my friend who came from Michigan to join me actually paid less for her flight than I did. We had a great time and thought it was run smoothly and well-attended. We'll definitely go again!

I'm already itching to book the hotel and airfare... last year I booked airfare in march and then the tickets went on sale in April... can I wait that long again?

I was trying to remember when I booked. I think I booked my hotel in Jan., and I remember they required that I pay the one night (refundable though) immediately. Seems like later on, we got a special code from our favorite bloodhound (Coyote Chris) and got a great discount.
