As previously mentioned, there are plenty of videogame soundtracks that would work great for skating. The first that comes to my mind is Heavy Rain, a game in which children go missing and are drowned by, erm, someone. The game follows the father of one of the children, looking for him before the worst happens. I think a skater like Shcherbakova would really sell it.
Others I can recommend are, of course, The Last of Us. I really like this arrangement.
Also, Witcher 3! Everything is fantastic, but I particularly like The Trail. Bit fast, though, it would take someone really skilled to not make it rushed.

Now, for something different... It would be really interesting if skaters realised not all good music comes from North America and Europe.

For the past few month I've had that idea in my mind of a pairs FS to Rheingold's prelude, because that piece of music is just divine. Of course that would require a really great choreo and great skaters to pull this off, but basically I'd like to see a "creation of the world" type of program, where the skaters try to create a universe out of movements.

In the category not really new idea, but I can't believe no one has chosen this music so far.

And yes, more baroque music. Actually one of my dream programs would be to see Yuzuru Hanyu skate to Bach, preferably the Cello Sonata, because Hanyu and Bach are a match made in heaven.

As for new programs ideas:
  • I would love to have more pairs programs that instead of being romance programs, go "we hate each other's guts" on ice. Or just "epic fight on ice". Zabiiako/Enbert went in that direction with their Alexander Nevsky SP, and while it was not the best program there is, it was a step in the right direction.
  • And more programs like Kazuki Tomono's SP. Actually Chroma is a great score to riff off. Or any McGregor's ballet really. Basically just have McGregor do figure skating programs please.

As far a vilain programs go, the Tolkien fan in me want to see someone skate to Blind Guardian. I mean you can have a Morgoth program set to Time Stand Still (or if you're really brave, an Ungoliant FS to Into the Storm).

i was thinking more of Siegfrid's Funeral March from Götterdämmerung or the Tannhäuser Overture (i know  i asked for this last year)

about pairs (and ice dance as well) i totally agree with you, i'm tired of romantic stuff it's boring and everyone seems to be doing the same thing. about Blind Guardians...we are following the will of the one through the dark age
and into the storm
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

IMO the genre relatively untouched by figure skating is electronica. It is too often stereotyped as chaotic, frenetic, ear-splitting mess of a noise for drug induced rave scene, but in reality there are so many different types and moods of "techno music", some can be catchy, atmospheric, haunting, or even soothing. I can envision works from some master DJs like Richie Hawtin, Aamin Van Buuren, Ricardo Villalobos, Solomun etc. can inspire many innovative programs.

watching a Roberto Bolle's performance i got this idea: skating as...the sun king and of course a golden costume is mandatory!!!! now we just need a skater with personality big enough to walk in Louis XIV high heels  too bad Rippon has retired

Everytime I listen to this song ("Regulus," by Korean band ONEWE), I think it would make spectacular figure skating music. It's not exactly K-pop, although I'm not necessarily opposed to that, either... just a beautiful, contemplative, Korean rock-ballad type song that would really suit an expressive skater. It's apparently based on the story of The Little Prince, so we already have a novel and evocative theme, too.

I’m not sure if many skaters have performed to selections from Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings Op. 48, but I would like to see skaters choose from it more.

Dear heavens, did somebody mention non-Kpop Korean songs? I have a thousand songs that I'd love to see used for skating, let me get a few out of my system:

Park Jeonghyun/Lena Park, In Dreams - Dramatic, powerful, with a strong storyline. I've been waiting for it to be used since forever.

Lee Eunmi, Nocturne - Again, dramatic, emotional, and with a strong storyline. Also it strongly hints that it's about a gay couple, so it has the added bonus of being nuanced.

Kim Yoona, Song of Night Memories (translated) - I'd love to see this song coupled with a modern traditional piece, her voice is everything. Sorrow, longing, bittersweet reverie, resigned hope. So much emotion in there.

Broken Valentine, Aluminum - Van was a talent that left this world too early, his voice had the restrained hopelessness that touches you much more deeply than being desparing outright. And the lyrics man...

Kim Gwangseok, Nearing 30 Years Old - Speaking of talents who left this world too early, Kim Gwangseok was a poet with a voice that could stop waves and move mountains. This song is his masterpiece, a composed reminiscence of the fleetingness of time, love, and life. It'll be quite the challenge to do it properly, but done right it would be something for the ages.

Yoon Mirae - Touch Love - I just love this song. It was the theme song for a drama and it was honestly popular than the show, and with good reason.

Younha, Just Listen - Just the right amount of reggae to draw your ears. As Younha says, just listen. It's a hidden jem.

YB(Yoon Dohyun Band), I'll Forget You - Yoon Dohyun's voice is always a pleasure to listen to, clear yet powerful. A rock number that is cheerfully melancholy, it'd be difficult to pull off but if done it would be great.

This ties more into the villains themed programs more, but I think it would be cool to have someone use music from the opera Othello and portray Iago.
This is just a sample of the music, theres almost 2.5 hours worth of dramatic relatively unused music in there https://youtu.be/EB85-ib0OQ0

Also this isn't really new but more gladiator programs please, the soundtrack is so great.

One of my team's skaters uses the intro music from The Crown spliced with the theme from The Americans; it's really cool!

We had a fun thread a while back about villains.
I've long thought Jason Brown should do a short program to California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas.
OMG YES! That would be amazing!
