There was a interesting story about Sondre in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten today.

In the interview he tells about the difficult start of this season. He said that his season last year was perfect, going upwards, and that he expected that he should do even better this season, but it didn´t turn out like this. He started training harder, but lacked motivation, but he still manage to push himself trough it. His coach Berit Steigedal has been ill and wasn´t there in the beginning of season, and this has affected him. He says that this winter has been stressfull for him, he started to think that he must change something, and therefore he changed the programs midseason, all though it meant a lot of extra training. But the changes was worth it. He also used a mental coach which has been useful.

Sondre also tells that he started thinking about matters that he didn´t think about earlier, like last season he didn´t care about the other skaters doing better, but that he suddenly started care about skaters beating him, skaters the he didn´t expect would do so, and that he felt a bit miserable about it.

The turning point for him was the EC in Graz, and that the most important key in this part is his coach Berit, which is back from illness and the ice rink to coach him.

This weekend he will compete in The Nordics, as the defending nordic champion. His ultimate goal is to qualify for the WC, but he still has a chance after Nordics. His coach advices him not to think so much about the need to qualify, and that he will get there eventually. Sondre says that no matter result this weekend, his ultimate goal is to go to the Olympic Games in 2022.

What a honest and nice interview. I wasn´t aware that his coach was ill, all though I noticed something was not right.

Thank you, I was hoping somebody would post it because I don't speak Norwegian. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sondre reaching the minimum TES for Worlds (I've been for quite some time now).

Has Sondre ever tried a 3A?

Good luck at the Nordics!

Ah, the mysterious 3A. The norwegian commentators has been mentioning it for years, that Sondre trains the 3A, and that it will come soon. I found an newspaper article from august 2017, when Sondre was on a training camp in Russia, where he trained and got help from Evgeni Rukavicin. Translation from his quote: "I´m in St. Petersburg to train for the last extra, to get the jump triple axel to stick. One in the SP and one in the FS".
"I had a huge progress allready after 2 weeks. It helps being out there on the ice with skaters who just do it".

So this is almost 3 years ago, it looked like he would try the 3A in the 2018/2019 season but I have never seen one or mentioned since I think. I have never seen a video where he tries it either. Meanwhile, Sondre wrote in a blog post this summer, that he started training quads in the summer camp in Italy.

It kinda looks like he has paused the 3A and that we might see a quad before the 3A. Maybe next season?

Personally, I don't need to see any big jumps to enjoy his skating, but to get to the Olympics he'll most likely need either a 3A or a quad. I hope he can get one (or more)! This season I just hope he lands all these jumps in the FS cleanly.

Good luck tomorrow :hap10:

Great skate by Sondre, he broke 70 points :) Now if only he could land these jumps in the FS and get the minimum TES...

Ahw, such a shame about the FS. The thinking about getting the minimum probably got him :( If he hadn´t done all the pops he might had a chance here, the judges quite generous with the GOEs, so this was really a unique chance...

It seemed like he gave up quite fast after the 3Lz - 2T and he was off the whole program:(

I noticed something, why does he always jump so close to the borders, it often looks like he doesn´t have enough space to rotate. Maybe he should start making the take-off earlier and have more space, maybe it would make him jumps with more confident? I kinda feel like it makes the jumps risky. Other skaters seem to jump more safely. He has a lot of speed going into the jumps.

Getting it the FS required at Challenge cup will be far more challenging :/ Maybe he need a bad SP skate to have a good skate there.

Well, he got silver and a new PB in the SP. It is something to celebrate :)

Let´s hope for the best in Netherlands.

Today wasn't his day but I believe that day will come. Still that SP was really great. If he doesn't get that minimum TES this year, I hope it'll happen next year. He can still progress in the coming years. Just look at Alexei Bychenko, still going strong at 32.
