Oh, this? Well, heh heh, this is just tens of millions worth of stock I'm dumping, pay no attention to that ... listen to authorities. Btw, I'm going to work from home until further notice. You keep on going to your job and live life normally though, kk?

so when we say 8 weeks until it peaks, has the 8 weeks started yet? are we already a couple weeks into it? or is it 8 weeks from now?

It's not that simple... normally the peak is the date with more cases and then decrease or most of the population get the virus so your number of cases can only decrease ... it depends on your country... we consider the starting week when we see the multiplication of cases day after day ... if your country didn't do anything probably they get a early peak and a lot lot of cases and not everyone will have medical care ... if your country try to contain the virus ... you will get the peak later and lesser cases that gives time to treat everyone and avoids avalanche in hospitals and saves more people ..

P.S. I'm a internal medicine physician .. I'm not quoting anyone but I think I can be considered a credible source

Meanwhile my son is in quarantine, but is not sick.

Best wishes. When the 45 minute point of test kit comes on line in a couple of weeks, the positive numbers will go way up but no one should panic....it just will be a reflection of the truth we all know is out there. But hopefully it will keep the Californians away from the beaches and the Spring breakers at home.

From what I read and hear, it is going to be a LOT longer than 8 weeks.

forgive me for this post.. I am however extremely annoyed. When I look around.. like even taking garbage out to the can in my driveway. I see groups of kids playing together and the parents hanging around with coffee mugs ( likely not just coffee in it ;) lol ) chatting and hanging out.. the other night one of our neighbors far down the street was clearly having a large gathering.. like.. guys.. THIS IS NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING!! stop thinking its ok to hang out with your friends because you think they are safe. You dont know who has been around who and when. I saw a twitter post yesterday of people in Edmonton, Alberta by their river valley and hoards of people outside strolling around together etc.. STOP IT!!! Dont even get me started about the US too. they have the 3rd highest amount of cases in the world right now and its like no body cares there. The gov is being far far far too slow with any reaction there.. I live just outside Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.. we only have 20 cases right now total in the province and yet our gov has closed pretty much everything except essential services including schools, daycares, all city places like rinks, libraries and health clubs. Its very clear where our gov stands. STAY INSIDE AT HOME!!!!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on a Monday, but apparently the previous estimation of how far to stay away was not far enough. It is now 15 feet: https://nypost.com/2020/03/09/coron...-farther-than-previously-thought-study-finds/

Then there's this:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/23/asia/hong-kong-coronavirus-quarantine-intl-hnk/index.html

And this: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/23/us/chinese-coronavirus-racist-attacks.html

And people are telling me I'm "virtue signalling" when I say they don't NEED to buy a new car right now and the dealerships should be closed.

Problem most likely the US isn't really prepared. 40% uninsured, 10's of percents under insured.

13.7% uninsured. https://news.gallup.com/poll/246134/uninsured-rate-rises-four-year-high.aspx

Here's the info for underinsured: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/9/10/20858938/health-insurance-census-bureau-data-trump

Also, whether you have insurance or not, if you are carrying a contagious disease in the middle of a pandemic, I would hope they would treat you. Then stuff like this happens (and you declare bankruptcy) https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/488678-us-woman-gets-3492743-bill-for-coronavirus-treatment

The worst part is the shortage of ventilators and ICU beds, though. There aren't enough or even close to enough. And I'm too old and sick to win the respirator lottery.

https://coronadotimes.com/news/2020...-everyone-must-understand-about-the-pandemic/

Also now predicted to be "much worse" in the US than in Italy, and we have fewer hospital beds and respirators than they do.

40% uninsured? I think this may be a typo.

The number is 8.5% according to the latest census figures. Not good, but not 40%:

https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2019/demo/p60-267.html

Excuses, I was wrong. The 40% is a guessed number of population with insufficient funds to pay for medical bills out of the pocket, let alone high ICU bills etc. I.e. all the persons and families on minimal wages or without any income at all.

Here, in The Netherlands, additional social distancing rules have been imposed, and the authorities given additional power to enforce. No unnecessary travel, no grouping whatsoever, 1.5 meter distance at all times, even indoors at a birthday party etc. All measures motivated by protecting the health services, which nevertheless are under increasing strain. Emergency hospitals for the less ill are being put up in empty hotels. All necessary medical equipment is put under Ministry of Health command for distribution, the army on alert to help in moving sick people to hospitals with ICU still available. The number of seriously infected people is expected to peak later this week. When the measures do not hold, state of emergency will most likely be declared and people's movements further restricted.

Which probably means, all sporting preparations are cancelled, including Olympic preparations, since the measures are in force until June 1.

It might be now since a lot of people are being laid off and losing their health insurance.

::sigh:: I just found out that one of my friends was among the 188 people laid off from the Strand. He was hoping that since he'd been there for a long time he'd be one of the remaining as their union has a first one in first one out policy. No such luck.

The Olympics have been postponed as of today.

No, that is not what Christine Brennan's article said.

Per Brennan's article, one well-known member of the IOC was speaking only for himself. Dick Pound was not speaking on behalf of the IOC, and was not making an official announcement of anything.

CBC's quote from Dick Pound, per its article as of an hour ago:

"We're all reading the tea leaves and so on, but the Japanese themselves are talking about postponing. A lot of National Olympic Committees and countries are calling for a postponement."

https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/tokyo-olympics-will-be-postponed-1.5506910

According to Pound himself, he is only "reading the tea leaves."

Forget it ... and less every russian is at home it won't get better .. probably they are doing very few test ...

Can you stop spread nonsense?? In Russia there were more than 156.000 tests made. And we ulike many other countries made it in Russia and export to other countries and help them with coronavirus. Why not to check properly before posting??

Canada is the first country to pull its athletes out of the summer games. I think it is a wise move

Some here in Canada are not taking the social distancing, now called physical distancing seriously enough, especially here in British Columbia, we've been dubbed the "Florida" of Canada. Our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not ruled out a nation wide lock down.

https://globalnews.ca/news/6716919/trudeau-canada-update-coronavirus-march-23/

Which is the same message our government gave today, since some part of the populace think the measures are only for others. The prime minister directly called them out as 'asocial'.
