So sad to hear this. He was a gifted songwriter with a smooth, warm voice that was instantly recognizable. :sad4:

And don't forget this classic:

Bill Withers - "Ain't No Sunshine"

This past week has been so cruel to the music world. Three very prolific songwriters (that I know of) lost to illnesses.

But, Withers was definitely the most high profile. As humbaba said, he had a voice that was instantly recognisable. And it was the same with the songs - you could name them after hearing only a couple of notes.

At least the music will live on. And act as a lasting tribute.

My thoughts go to his family, friends and fans.

Also, although I don’t think it is free on any of the streaming services, a great documentary about Bill was “Still Bill”.

A man who had reached the pinnacle of success and walked away, because he had enough money and had nothing left to prove.

“ It was time to quit, he says, whatever that means. He didn't feel the need to tour year after year, keeping himself in people's minds. "On the way to wonderful," he says, "you'll pass through all right. Stop and take a look around, because that's where you may be staying”

Still playing some of those tunes today:sad21:

To Bill Withers and one of my favorite songs "Ain't No Sunshine"

I managed to play it on my Tenor Sax today! I did not realize the neighbor was out next door(we have a privacy fence)
When I finished, I heard applause and "Play that again"
I obliged!

I wish more skaters had used Bill Withers songs.

The best I remember:

Navka & Kostamarov
Ain't No Sunshine + rock

I enjoyed that, but oh my gosh, that music choice was retro.

A very good cover of "Aint No Sunshine" (don't know who it was) and a instrumental, uh, cover of Rock Around the Clock? Together?
Sometimes the mind boggles:)
