I have Ultima Mark IV blades, since I returned to skating a year ago. (I haven't been on the ice in three months though). I didn't realize at the time I chose between them and the Mirages that the Mark IV sizes are in thirds of an inch instead of quarters, so they are actually ever so slightly too long for my boots (9 2/3 when I should have 9 1/2).
I've also had on going alignment issues due to my pronation, and have not been able to satisfactorily have them moved to where I want. (Mostly by the tech, last time I loosened the heel screws myself but didn't remove them to see how much I could move them). I can't move them any more without drilling new holes.
My idea now is to have the tech plug the holes and start over with different blades - MK Galaxy, which are in quarter inches. The screw pattern on the plates also should match the pattern on MK Pros, which would be the next blade up, to get someday.
But MK Pros are 7 foot rockers, and MK Galaxy is an 8 foot, and I'd prefer to stay with an 8 foot rocker for now. One of the things people say about entry level Ultima blades is how flat the profile is. Do you think that's just a function of the 8 foot rocker, or do you think the MK Galaxy profile might have better spin rocker despite also being 8 feet? I'm not really asking people to guess so much as asking for experience on different rocker profiles with the same main rocker size.
Bonus question: Anyone have experience plugging holes on a Jackson boot with a fusion (not leather) sole? I'm wondering if that will be problematic.
