Well this gives opportunity to less popular skaters who don't have a shot for Olympics. If big names bow out of this GP series we might see some skaters we don't normally get the opportunity to see.

Unless those skaters are literally stuck in their home countries and unable to leave.

Most of Europe is now open and inter-connected. Some European companies allow US & Canadian citizens with a small quarantine (Although nobody allowed into US or Canada).

I might have missed something, but why are Della Monica / Guarise not listed in pairs for the GP?

Great. Not everyone is in Europe. Can we please, please acknowledge that there is more to the world than Europe and the US?

We're not getting a GP. Forget it. Reconcile yourself to that fact and look forward to what we can do to get the rest of the season happening.

Plus European countries are definitely *not* all accepting US travellers for the foreseeable future.... You still might be giving the ISU too much credit, though. They have big interest and attendance in Asia, a decent base in North America, and still barely care about adding events outside of Europe under normal circumstances. I agree it won’t happen, but I imagine the ISU itself will try go ahead with a limited GP series even if participation was limited, until the health authorities tell them no.

Especially given the relative importance of our sport in Europe, the US and the 'more of the world' in question...

If they could hold only the Championships and three or so CS’s across all the continents I’d be happy. The issue is sixty or so skaters all in one place at one time...? Right now that’s a hard sell.

Football can do it because the money on the line is so huge that the players are willing (or pressured) to take that risk. Other sports don’t have such a benefit. Plus so many skaters are so young.

I think we’ll get something but it might only be the the absolute minimum.

Update from ISU:

https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/1...-to-be-held-in-china-in-2020?templateParam=15

Following the announcement from the General Administration of Sport of China last week, the ISU received clarification through its Chinese counterparts regarding the ISU Events scheduled to be held in China in 2020.

As the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating - Cup of China event is part of the ISU Grand Prix series and is consequently related to the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final which is an Olympic Test Event, the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) reportedly agrees that the Cup of China scheduled to be held on November 6-8, 2020 in Chongqing, remains scheduled as planned.

Like for all other five ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events in the different countries, this is of course subject to finding the necessary logistical, medical and safety solutions to hold the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events as planned.

The Chinese Olympic Committee’s decision not to hold international sports events until the end of the year (2020) does not affect the Olympic Test Events, namely the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (December 10-13, 2020) and the ISU World Cup Short Track event (December 18-20, 2020) planned to be held in the Olympic venue in Beijing.

The ISU Council will next meet on-line on August 3, 2020 and based on the feedback from the ISU Members and the Council’s appointed Working Group, the ISU Council will decide upon the further course of action for ISU Events.
