Bolero: Really? Somebody besides Torvill & Dean skated to Bolero? Well, at least not with the sport-changing effect that T&D did.

Carmen: Sammi Cesario. Yeah, I said it. Look it up;)

Dark eyes:

Firebird: Toller Cranston as a pro

Les Miserables: Grant Hochstein, specifically the SOHL at Boston Worlds

Moulin Rouge (all versions): Andrew Torgashev, Roxxaaanne... Only Roxanne I will ever watch more than once.

Phantom of the Opera:

Rach II:

Romeo and Juliet: Junnnnn-liet

Swan Lake: Rudy Galindo, also SOHL at US Nats

Tosca: Zhenya

Turandot:

Maybe I'll come back and edit when I think about it:)

Definitely Grant Hochstein at Boston’s Worlds. This program was one of the highlights of the men’s competition (Javi being the main highlight, of course).

What would figure skating be without warhorses? For each of the following warhorses, choose your favourite program(s)!

Ooo, this looks fun!

Bolero: Torvill and Dean win this one. Although I did enjoy both Plushy's and Liza T's SPs to this music.
Carmen: Plushy's of course, he played all three main characters, plus the costume, plus the amazing performance of it Salt Lake 2002 even though the gold medal was out of reach. Boss.
Dark eyes: Plushy's :)laugh: are we sensing a theme here?!) He had two totally different costumes for this one and I just loved the choreo.
Firebird: N/A
Les Miserables: Haven't seen this one much TBH, I liked Timothy and Ashley's program to this though.
Moulin Rouge (all versions): Tessa and Scott, for sure.
Phantom of the Opera: I can't take this music seriously because of that season where 4 men all had it and they all ended up at Worlds and 3 did their program one after the other!
Rach II: T/M, OMG their performance of it at the 2019(?) World's, pure prefection.
Romeo and Juliet: Jun-liet of course! I also liked Madison and Zach's FD to this music.
Swan Lake: Can I put Kaitlyn and Jean-Luc's Exhibition skate for this? Because it is actually the greatest.
Tosca: Plushy's (I totally didn't reply to this post just to list Plushy, what are you talking about?! ;))
Turandot: Shen and Zhao

Les Miserables: Chock and Bates Free Dance 2014 Nationals.

Maybe the most surprising of all I considered. At the time, I had soured on them slightly and had begun to really get into Hubbel and Donohue... and I was WAY OVER the music.

It was STUNNING. Very beautiful and emotional. It made me look at them in an entirely different light.

Bolero: Torvill/Dean, ofc, the originals, and then maybe Kostner in 2014

Carmen: Katarina Witt 1988. There is very little competition to that performance. Virtue/Moir were more than ok.

Dark eyes: Is this really a warhorse? Have not paid attention to this one at all in that sense.

Firebird: How this piece of music became a FS favourite I do not still understand, but it was there in the 1970s already. And have never really liked any programs made to it.

Les Miserables: I could name least favourites, but refrain from doing that. But Yuna Kim did a good one in 2013 Worlds.

Moulin Rouge (all versions): I don't get the "all versions" here? Maybe that should be with R&J? But Ashley Wagner and Virtue/Moir.

Phantom of the Opera: See Les Mis first part, but here there are no good choices for me.

Rach II: Lu Chen 1996 by Sandra Bezic. No competition whatsoever.

Romeo and Juliet: Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, West Side Story, Rota OST, Luhrmann OST, Korzeniowski OST, the French musical... (Plus probably some more.) I think my favourite version is West Side Story, but I cannot name any good interpretations of any of them. Anissina/Peizerat did get the look just about right, not so sure about the programme.

Swan Lake: Oksana Baiul 1994 SP.

Tosca: It has been used recently a bit more, but on the verge of not being a warhorse, IMO.

Turandot: No favourites here either. Well, maybe the Chinese pair skaters?

Definitely missing from the list is Malaguena which has been used almost as frequently as Carmen - here there is only one: Javier Fernández SP 2015-7, 2018-9. Kristi Yamaguchi was not bad either back in 1992 - she was one of the first ever to use it.

Also Concerto Aranjuez should be added, but there I have again a black hole (particulary incomprehensible are most of the vocal versions).

Argentine tango could also be one group category (or maybe rather any composition by Astor Piazzolla?) Here I would go for Gilles/Poirier FD 2016-7 even though it was not Piazzolla (or maybe just because of that?).

Maybe some warhorses come and go.

I don't recall recent (past couple of years) programs to Rhapsody in Blue, American in Paris, or On the Waterfront... none of which are my favorite pieces of skating music.

But, I am old and prone to forgetfulness. Perhaps someone can remind me.

Edit to add: West Side Story has fallen out of frequent use lately, hasn't it?

I can do that with Chaplin and Sherlock Holmes programs.

All of them are in a tie for my least favorite.

If I never see another Chaplin or another Elvis program, even from skaters I like, I will live happily for the rest of my days.

I was going to add Lu Chen’s Rach II as a co-favorite, but then I realized that the Second Movement, which she skated to, is not a warhorse at all. Who else skated to it in competition? I know Davis and White did it as an exhibition but I can’t think of anyone else.
