Averbukh's team is a team of champions.

Yagudin, Navka and Kostomarov (Olympic ch, 2 world ch), Totmianina and Marinin (Olympic ch, 2 world ch), Domnina and Shabalin (world ch, Olympic medalists), Denkova and Staviski (2 world ch), Petrova and Tikhonov (world ch), Polishuk and Besedin (world ch in ice acrobatics), Leonova and Khvalko (2 world ch in professionals), Drobyazko and Vanagas...

The English "Carmen" site says, that Ekaterina Gordeeva is going to skate in London with them.
Gordeeva was skating with them in Moscow.
Domnina isn't going to skate in London.
And Totmianina isn't going. (they will skate the first variant, without her role)


"Carmen" is unbelievable beautiful!
Averbukh had theatrical prizes for his "City lights". But now those people, who liked "City lights", say to him:
- "Carmen" is not "The lights". :thumbsup:

Last summer they skated in Sochi, later "Carmen" went to Moscow... There was a time when many people couldn't believe, that Averbukh would be able to sell so many tickets in Sochi, but his team is skating in Sochi all summer long. Nearly every day. On the beach people tell each other, that the show is beautiful, and on the next day new people come to see "Carmen". On the third day new holidayers arrive in Sochi, go to the beach... and Averbukh is ready to seeing them in the ice palace "Iceberg".

About music. Yes, they use the music by Bizet and "Bolero" by Ravel, but much new music was written specially for this performance.

This performance is extraordinary: theatre indeed.
Averbukh thinks of everything. The lighting is fantastic.
His actors are gorgeous! They hear the music and feel each other. They have been working together for years.
Every detail is important for Averbukh. He continued to change something again and again... The team hoped he would let them skate undisturbedly at last. Ilia could go to Moscow, couldn't he? He even promised to go away, but on the next day he invented one more variant...
His Carmen is blonde, but they believe Carmen's nature is more important than the color of her hair.

Yes, Carmen dies, but... Averbukh's theatrical is full of kindness. Unbelievable!

They skate in Sochi five days a week.

I believe Averbukh knows, what he does.

His looooong interview in “Clockwork Orange”? It was a lecture. The author wrote down "the most interesting" things.
I think this article showed, that Averbukh is very clever. And he told so many secrets... I didn't know those things before. I'd say this interview is very informative. Not many words for every idea, although much info. So I don't think it is too long.

Risky?
In Russia they are very successful. He found a place, where they can skate 5 days a week during the holiday season. He says, that some people, who try to repeat this success, don't get the same result, because high quality is important.
As for London... well, London liked their "City lights". Maybe he wanted to say, that even a great success in London wouldn't give enough money, yet I believe he knows, what he does. He wants "Carmen" to live long.

By the way, recently Ilia Averbukh finally took pity on St. Petersburg.
The new shedule says, that "Carmen" will come to St. Petersburg and to Krasnodar in November.
We are very astonished. These are not all their plans. It is hard to imagine, how they are going to make it all...

I am based in London and I couldn't care less. Talk about Carmen and all bad cliches in the figure skating world... I trust most sophisticated Londonner would be more smarter than fall for this schtick. One step away from pantomine on ice. Unless your name is Katerina Witt, all Carmen fails. Risk and innovation is not what I associate with this choreographer; ego, lazy thinking, low brow contrivance however is. Ja, good luck, burn baby burn.

They don't use kids for marketing. These photos from Averbukh's instagram are ordinary family photos. Averbukh respects all these parents.
As for the videos... Yes, their children come to their theatrical. The fathers took their children and went away from the ice. That's all.

The word "risky" was mentioned, because Averbukh is also a producer. And a really smart one. He was honestly telling, how he comes to a good result even in those cities, where he can't get enough money for the tickets.
As for the choreography... when Averbukh was skating in "Ice Age", he was saying he was too old. I don't remember Vanagas speaking about his age, though Vanagas is older than Averbukh. Yagudin jumps on an iron leg. He couldn't believe he started to jump 3 lutz again. The doctors say Yagudin shouldn't have been jumping all these years.
When these skaters were exchanging their partners, the dancers were trying high lifts and the pair skaters were learning dancing elements. Though all of them are not young. Tanya Totmianina lost two teeth, when her partner was a dancer. I am sorry.
Yes, this is not a competition. This is theatre. And they are beautiful.

Evgenia Medvedeva will compete with two programs, choreographed by Averbukh. And new SP for Kovtun is choreographed by Averbukh. I hope these programs are beautiful. Medvedeva and Lipnitskaya were winning with his programs.

Thank you very much. To say the truth, I didn't know about this one more long "Carmen".
I really like it. I like the nature of Katerina's Carmen.

May I speak honestly about the differences? "Carmen" with Witt is made like a movie, which we can watch on a screen. Many many actors, who are just standing, walking, clapping. And many pieces, when we see only the eyes, only a hand and etc. NOT for a big auditorium.
And montage.

Averbukh has only one rink, one scenery, no opportunity to repeat anything. His skaters are dancing, when they are fighting. They all work like an orchestre. I think on the videos "Carmen's childhood" and "Circus" it is easy to notice, that the next part of the performance starts before the previous part is over: the new music, the new lighting - the next skater is already moving. 2 hours and a half (with 1 entr'acte).
They should be able to skate it clean every day. (Should it be "risky"?..) The pairs do interesting lifts, Yagudin jumps so many times, that people wish he wouldn't do it so often.
Many of people who come to watch this theatrical are not fans of the figure skating. But these people become happy: the audience feel, that life is wonderful.

The script is unique. It doesn't mean, that this variant is better than a classical "Carmen". It just makes people happy. We hear the applause of the real audience during all the performance.

There is a soloist in this story. That soloist isn't Carmen.
As for Carmen... sometimes Drobyazko replaces Navka.
Some people like Drobyazko more than Navka.
But the main thing, that they all are a single whole, an orchestre.

Last year when almost all the team visited the ice musical "Carmen", I didn't succeed to do it. But after all those awesome words which the guys were saying about it, I decided, that this year I should go for sure. So? I really love Cirque du Soleil, and during all the "Carmen" performance I was thinking, that I really see it: circus on the ice. The scenery is overwhelm­ing, all the details are well-thought-out, the lighting is awesome, live sound and vocal (hats off to Sveta Svetikova)... Costumes! If my memory serves me well, Navka has changed 6 dresses Yet the most nice thing about it, that all the stars, European Champions, World Champions, Olympic Champions work with SUCH intensity at their 65th (!) performance, that I had goosebumps from every number. Thanks a lot to Ilya Averbukh and all his team for the world-class ice musical! I have finished.

In 2015 they had "more than 80" performances in Sochi (did they forget to count?) and 15 in Moscow.
In 2016 they had 85. (Sochi)
