The detailed protocols are now up too. So, the relatively low score for Flores/ Desyatov is explained by minus GOE on their twizzle sequence. I wish we could see the event because this is going to be an exciting season in ice dance, and this is the kick-off. It's very early yet, so all skaters' programs will improve over the course of the season.

ETA: There is also an indication under 'Majority deductions' that F/D received "1 of 6 violations for choreo restrictions." I wonder where in the program. Their RD was choreographed by Massimo Scali, and it's upbeat and exciting, so I hope they don't have to take the fun out of it. Oh well. Figure skating is a tough sport. They will make changes and get it stronger. The FD results tomorrow will be interesting to see.

And the senior FD has concluded, but detailed protocols aren't up yet. Ling/ Wein dropped in the standings.

Wolfkostin/ Tsarevski are still in first place, with Flores/ Desyatov still in second, but now about four pts behind in the free dance, as opposed to about 6 pts behind in the RD.

(ETA: W/T total 163.71 vs F/D total 154.09 = 9.62 difference, but that would have been narrowed without F/D's minus GOE on twizzles in the RD).

Being able to actually see performances makes a difference. It's very early in the season, so scores will increase during the season as programs improve and strengthen.

The federation and event organizers should make a better effort to allow viewing of the event, when there is great interest by fans. But, as usual, they are lame in promoting the sport and the skaters. There is greater interest from people who are very new to watching figure skating via seeing clips on Instagram and YouTube. But the sport's handlers do absolutely nothing to foster and grow the interest generated through social media.

Protocols for senior combined FD:

Protocols for junior combined FD:

Thank you for the links.

Having possibility to skate new programs at competitions in July / August - I see advantage in it. It gives enough time to change programs based on specialists / judges feedback. It gives enough time to get new muscle memory with elements being changed. It helps to get ready for big competitions.

I find it like a disadvantage for European couples to start competing much later - first competition in Europe is in Bergamo 8th of September. While Dallas Classic and Skate Ontario are in July, Lake Placid in July / August.

Btw Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships 2019 in the beginning of August had quite high level with five couples (Smart & Diaz, Carreira & Ponomarenko, McNamara & Carpenter, Soucisse & Firus, Green & Parsons) getting 2 Grand Prix assignments that season.

Virtue & Moir presented their Olympic Rhythm dance at Summer Quebec competition 2013 in the beginning of August.

Even Russian Ice Dancers got inspired...in past Russian dancers had troubles to skate whole programs at Test Skate in the beginning of September, sometimes they skated excerpts only.
Last seasons there looked to be improvement in this issue...

From Angelika Krylova's interview from late May - FD for her young Ice Dance team was already choreographed, RD was in the process of making.

Now, both RD and FD photos are up on Figure Skaters Online site for the top finishers.

Check out the lovely FD photos for Pederson/ Chen. Photo-wise, they look like a good pairing. 😊

It's also interesting to see pics of Lavrova/ Rogers; Flores/ Desyatov; Wolfkostin/ Tsarevski; et al.

I wonder why FD program updates are so slow in coming for Dallas Classic?
