I still feel counting crossovers is a stupid way of quantifying a skaters' abilities. You have to look at their choreography, footwork, and the quality of their elements as a whole. I remember there was some girl in the early groups at Sochi who almost came to a complete stop before jumping into her triples. It was truly bizarre looking. Is she a better skater because she can complete a triple with no speed, or does she have bad technique? On the other hand if you do 5 cross overs, but then do a spread eagle and a backwards spiral going into a triple lutz, and you're able to control those elements with so much speed, who's to say you are not a good skater, or "dependent on cross overs." It is just a dumb way of thinking about the sport.
