I'm pretty sure there were 36 skaters per category until last year. Now there are only 30. Oh well, I guess a competition with so many skaters is difficult enough to organise for JSF. (But if they decrease the number of skaters, I wish they'd add SPs. . . but I guess making SPs would be expensive for the young skaters.)

mh~ but I don't think (Japanese?) skaters at Novice levels have ever have to skate to a short program, I mean in competitions? Perhaps they're still young and its too demanding physically?

SumiIbu (Sumire and Ibuki) have been skating together since they were barely out of diapers (of course, I'm exaggerating but they were a team before Daisuke did ID)
As far as the Jingu teams, Higuchi-sensei has always had teams in rotatation

ID was popular enough before Dai did it~
Unfortunately, ID and Pair teams have a difficult time finding ice time in Japan so often split before they're able to reach and show their potential

mh~ but I don't think (Japanese?) skaters at Novice levels have ever have to skate to a short program, I mean in competitions? Perhaps they're still young and its too demanding physically?

I could be wrong, but I think US and Canadian novice skaters skate both SPs and FSs, so it might be a Japanese exception. But yes, it might be too demanding for young kids.

They'll be Junior-eligible next season then. I'm hoping they'll get a JGP assignment, they are very good for such a young team

Feels like we've been waitng FOREVER for Sumire to be age eligible for Juniors
I'm hoping they'll be sent to compete in a Novice International this season to prepare for their Junior debut
That's what JSF did with Utakumi (Utana and Takumi)...then they split just before their first JGP assiignment
Since then, I've had anxiety the same will happen with Sumire and Ibuki

Hoping Cathy can keep them happy and together
