Alaine

her 3lz-3t looked pretty much the best I have seen it in a while.

her 3 loop : not sure why she just doesn't do a salchow... she had to hang on to it... and i am not sure it's fully around.

nice 2 axel.

Nice program... 68.77

oh noooo... Veronik withdrew... I was looking forward to seeing her... last group on the ice for warmup now and that's it from me... going to a BBQ.
Ciao

Alaine: If the 3F isn't good she needs both the 3Lz and the 3Lo. My read is that her work with specialists since the spring has likely solved the 3Lz issue. The 3Lo seems to be a matter of stress.

When she is relaxed and centred it's always great...but when she tightens up it becomes a challenge. She was training a tano version a year ago and it was really nice from the gifs... Perhaps they've been looking for different entries and arm positions to break whatever the psychological issues are around it.

On the score, it's good to see two competitions at 68. She often does well at Minto where she has the home crowd and is in her comfort zone at a rink where she occasionally trained in the past. Pierrefonds is not unfamiliar, but not a training site. But to be where she needs to be the SP needs to break 70 under the stress of international competition.

That said, I think 70+ is definitely well within reach. It looks as though this is another program that makes her happy to skate it. She's said that was a factor for her with Pina, and I notice that Shaelyn Bourne kept in some bits of transitions and choreo from Pina that worked well for Alaine. I'm more hesitant on the FS at this point honestly.

The 3STh was back in their FS at Minto Summer Skate as well....they got a slightly positive GOE of .23 [more 0s than 1s from the judges] so that looks like it is coming and may get them to enough elements in the second part of the criteria

...but it still leaves the 2A as the 'must have' that is missing. SBS 2Los and 2Lzs are not high enough....

That said, I agree with Mango that there should be a way for them to get out to some international events, if not to the JPG.

They are so far ahead on some of the most difficult pairs elements that we've seen that some senior teams never truly reach the technical heights of. In many ways, Olivia seems to have a lot of Luba's strengths and weaknesses despite coming up in very different system. She flies in the twist and has great flexibility. She's such a potential pairs girl star for the long haul, that her development really needs to be maximized. And anyone who has watched their blog will recognize that their sibling relationship has been crucial to to that potential from the start.

-AIC is one option....SC has given berths to not quite JPG ready skaters for that and let them pay their own way in previous years. And Skate Ontario perhaps should be the funder to get them to an international that is not on the JPG circuit.

In any event, the lags in their jumps is longstanding, and it sounds as though the time is now to deal with it. Otherwise, MacKenzie will age out of juniors before she has the triples needed.

Two quick points:

Autumn Classic International does not have a junior pairs event. Only junior women and men.

Olivia is the girl, Mackenzie the boy. Both need triples help though.

Alaine

Patinage Québec is now putting up archived videos. Maybe someone can compile them.

Forgot that about AIC...

Have corrected to be clear that the ageing out was Mackenzie, but the triples were about Olivia.

Did anyone else watch Senior Dance?

ETA:

I didn't pay much attention to the 1st group, except for Smart/Diaz. I would have watched Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen, but I didn't hear their names (maybe I missed them?).

I really liked S/D. I thought they looked good and had a good program. They got 66.72 (1st place at the time).

Lauriault/Le Gac were also enjoyable, though slower and a little less sharp than S/D IIRC. Loved her red dress. 64.14 (2nd at the time).

Fukase/Tateno - Very bright dress with lots of ruffles, not sure if I like it yet. Slower than the last two and not as sharp overall. 53.68. (4th overall I think)

Soucisse/Firus - Nice program, maybe the fastest I saw (S/D might be even with them). Missed the score.

Robledo/Fenero - Shakira for part of the music. 52.84 (5th overall)

withdrawal from Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen?

IIRC, Soucisse and Firus got around 62.

Edit: I didn't recall correctly. They got 64.72 and sit in second. Just snuck ahead of Marie-Jade and Romain and 2 points behind Olivia and Adrian.

Watching Elladj makes me smile. Jumps not perfect, but wish I could have seen this in person.

Liam Firus: fell on the first jump, and the second, and third. Oh dear, and the fourth, hand down on the fifth, glad he stayed up there. Finally a nice combo. And the next two jumps are okay too. He managed to pull it together.

Scores are taking forever.

122.07 for the free. 196.90 total. Into 3rd.

Me too! Another really enjoyable programs. Nice quads. Just noticed that he does his toes from an inside three turn, different from most men. I thought the outside three was most typical because it is easier to generate power, but whatever works, I guess! Some lost points with combos.

Edrian: like the deep red shirt. Ouch, hard fall on the first jump. Another fall, third jump step. Another fall a bit later.

98.81 for the free, 160.90 total, into 6th.

Olivier Bergeron: Red vest guy, one fall so far. Then another (I think). Under Pressure music for part of it. Popped jump near the end, then a combo, then another pop (unless he planned singles/doubles, I'm not sure which). Doesn't seem very happy with that.

100.29 for the free, 160.15 total. Into 8th.

Nic's score here helps his case for the Skate Canada TBD a lot, especially since he only did the short at Minto.
