Over six years since her last international assignment, Janire is finally making her Junior level international debut today at the Triglav Trophy in Jesenice, Slovenia. (And given that she ages out of Juniors in a few weeks, this will probably be her only international appearance at Junior level).

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start at 09:00:00 CEST (07:00:00 GMT / 08:00:00 BST / 10:00:00 EEST). So 2 hours from now.

Janire will be the 26th skater to start. So, fourth and antepenultimate skater to go in Group 5 (and fourth skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 11:52:00 CEST (09:52:00 GMT / 10:52:00 BST / 12:52:00 EEST). So 4h 52m from now.

Janire is due to start at 12:15:00 CEST (10:15:00 GMT / 11:15:00 BST / 13:15:00 EEST). So 5h 15m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Triglav Trophy Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RCo9dYXIHg

Janire finished 38th out of 48 in the SP, with a score of 29.53.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Triglav Trophy. However, I did manage to post the following in the competition thread after the scores came up for the skater that went before Janire:

Good job I was keeping an eye on the livescoring - we are running ahead of schedule. (Presumably because there have been two withdrawals).

Popping in to wish all the best to my Basque kid in her first international competition for 6 years, and her first at Junior level.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST JANIRE!!! :cheer:

Since then, Hielo Español have been as efficient as ever and have uploaded the videos of Janire's programmes to YouTube. So, when I watched the SP video, I wrote the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Fall on first jump.

Second jump lovely. And so was the spin that she did next.

Not the best landing on the second part of the combination jump. But the first part was lovely.

Interesting variation on the spin. It's different, but I liked it.

There was a point in the step sequence when it looked like she had to correct herself. But, I may be interpreting it wrong.

Lovely combination spin to finish.

OK, so I know I've only seen her once previously this season, and hadn't seen her for about 6 years before that. But, that is the best I've seen her skate! That was really good!

I am so happy to have re-discovered her.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote at the time after Janire's scores came up:

Janire IDIAKEZ (ESP) had a 1 point deduction, and goes into 17th position with a score of 29.53.

OK, so it is her second lowest SP score of the season. But given that she is a complete unknown to the international Judges, it's pretty good that it is comparable to her last outing in Spain.

I'm sure she's just delighted to be getting the opportunity to compete internationally again.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:

Janire is currently 0.11 points behind 37th position, Radina ZAHARIEVA (BUL), and 0.15 points ahead of 39th position, Mia Liisu KRUMINS (EST). All three of them are part of a larger group where 20 skaters are covered by 8.58 points, stretching from Boglarka ZHANG (HUN) in 26th position, 4.46 points ahead of Janire, down to Chiara NICOLETTI (ITA) in 45th position, 4.12 points behind Janire.

However, truth be told, apart from the top 4 skaters and the bottom 3 skaters, it is a very tight field where any gaps are negligible. I usually use a 2 point gap to mark groups, and there simply aren't any gaps that big in this portion of the field. What we have is essentially one big group of 41 skaters covered by 20.61 points, stretching from Ilona van STEENBERGHE (BEL) in 5th position, 16.49 points ahead of Janire, to Chiara NICOLETTI (ITA) in 45th position, 4.12 points behind Janire.

Absolutely anything could happen in the Free Skate. So, Janire needs to put in a good Free Skate regardless of how anybody else does.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start today at 09:00:00 CEST (07:00:00 GMT / 08:00:00 BST / 10:00:00 EEST). So 2 hours from now.

Janire will be the 11th skater to start. So, fifth and penultimate skater to go in Group 2 (and penultimate skater to go before the first resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 09:42:00 CEST (07:42:00 GMT / 08:42:00 BST / 10:42:00 EEST). So 2h 42m from now.

Janire is due to start at 10:13:50 CEST (08:13:50 GMT / 09:13:50 BST / 11:13:50 EEST). So 3h 13m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Janire finished 40th out of 47 in the FS, with a score of 50.35. This meant that she dropped to 39th position overall, with a score of 79.88.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch the Triglav Trophy. However, I did manage to post the following in the competition thread after the scores came up for the skater that went before Janire:

Ah, that was perfect timing. Just finished doing something and flicked over to the livescoring to see what stage of the competition we were at before I started doing something else, and realised that my kid was next to skate.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST JANIRE!!! :cheer:

Since then, Hielo Español have been as efficient as ever and have uploaded the videos of Janire's programmes to YouTube. So, when I watched the FS video, I wrote the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Bit unsteady in her opening position.

Fall on first jump.

Combination jump that followed went well.

And so did the individual jump, and then the spin.

She was lifting her leg up and holding onto it a lot in the Choreographic Sequence.

Popped a jump. And fell on the next one.

Not the best of landings on either part of the combination jump.

But combination spin was lovely.

Just about avoided a hand down on the second part of the combination jump. But the first part was lovely.

Nice Sit Spin just before she finished.

It may not have gone as well as the Short Programme, but I am just so happy to have seen her.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote at the time after Janire's scores came up:

Mmmmm. Two points in deductions for Janire.

I'm afraid that this is her lowest FS score of the season, by just 0.13 points compared to what she scored at her opening event of the season.

She goes into 5th in the FS, and 4th overall.

Nevertheless, I am just happy that Janire has got to compete on the international stage again after so many years of only competing in Spain.

As she has already turned 19 and there are not many events left this season, this is probably Janire's final competition at Junior level.

On a selfish note, I hope this is not Janire's swansong. With not realising that she was competing in Spain, I have missed out on the past 6 years of her career. After belatedly finding out that she is still skating, I have enjoyed seeing her again. And I would love to see her competing at Senior level.

But whatever path she takes from here, I wish Janire all the best for the future.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:

MORE TO FOLLOW

Janire finished the Free Skate 2.53 points behind 39th position, Neda VASILEVA (BUL), and 2.93 points ahead of 40th position, Charlotte PATTON VELAZQUEZ (MEX).

Overall, Janire finished 3.04 points behind 38th position, Vasileva, and 1.54 points ahead of 40th position, Chiara NICOLETTI (ITA). Janire was at the head of a group of 3 skaters covered by 2.74 points, which was completed by Klara SEKARDI (SVN) in 41st position.

Even if she hadn't made as many mistakes in her Free Skate, I don't think it would have made much difference to Janire's finishing position.

Although she dropped two positions overall, there wasn't anything Janire could have done about that. That was due to two skaters, Alisah REITERER (AUT) and Valeria MARTINEZ ALEMAN (MEX), doing considerably better in the FS than they did in the SP, and jumping ahead of a whole pile of skaters, including Janire.

I said it at the time, but I'll say it again. After all this time, it was lovely to see Janire again this season, and see the skater that she has grown up into. And I wish her all the best for the future now that her time as a Junior skater is coming to an end.

:cheer: WELL DONE JANIRE!!! :cheer:
