Anyone know where I can watch replays either of the event or of individual skaters? I can only find Valievas online
PeacockTV. It only costs $4.99 or so for a month. IMO the Olympics coverage is excellent, and you can go back and watch replays of your favorite events!

well no matter how many replacements, there is a SP and a LP... so one (or two) of the girls was always going to be left out. Same with the pairs. It is quite rare that a a team will have 3 entries valid of a podium sweep... Only Russian women this time around. Even in 2018 it wasn't the case. So, it really doesn't matter in the end :) Someone gets left out. We could compare this to Medley relays in swimming. You are allowed 6 swimmers but there are four styles of swimming. What if you have 3 backstroke specialists??? Only two will be able to swim in the relay. That's just what it is. I feel this is very anecdotal. It's sad for the Russian women but they can still get an individual medal and who knows, keep skating for another 4 years if they absolutely want that gold.
But many more swimmers get a medal because there are heats and if you swim in a heat you get a medal all the same. So I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison.

My opinion - Peacock is awful. They play commercials even for Premium members who pay $9.99 a month to not have to watch commercials and they provide commentary for every single sport except figure skating. I VPN out of my own country to avoid it. But you can watch replays.

You know, I keep coming back to what one of my book-group people said in 2002 when 16-year-old Sarah Hughes won the Olympics. And a reminder, she sparkled and had a moment, but also, she did technically what no other woman had ever attempted: 2 triple-triples in the long.

My friend said, as some were sad @ Kwan: "I don't care who you are. There are things you can do when you're 16 that you can't do later."

This was from a regular, once-but-no-longer athletic woman in middle age. If you look at all the women's OGold medalists since 1994 -- when it really kicked in that the competitors hadn't grown up with having to do Figures -- it absolutely holds up.

It has been exactly what Carlo Fassi predicted, about doing away with Figures. "it'll be little girls jumping, and where's the beauty in that?"

I think the women still have very beautiful qualities, if they reach OGM status. But they get there, more so, because of jumping.

But that applies only to OGM. We see grown women medal in Worlds, 4CCs, National championships (Mariah is so ancient I’m surprised she can get out onto the ice without a walker), GP, etc. We have Uncles. I want to have Aunties as well. Seriously I’ve NEVER heard anyone say of a man “well, he’s 16. Too bad. Time to hang it up.”

Please raise senior age to 18.

I love this post. The only thing I disagree with is the sentence about the medal.

What about the other beautiful US skaters with so many wonderful qualities like Mariah, Alysa, Ashley and Timothy, Kaitlin and Jean-Luc? In all likelihood, they may leave here without an Olympic medal. They're just as deserving. [ETA: I've seen them all, including Karen, in person, several times.] So I prefer to keep my eyes and heart on the value of the experience.

The medals are not the only thing the skaters are skating for. They value the experience of being part of all kinds of athletes from all over the world getting together to compete and show their abilities. They're happy when they put out a performance, or wow, two performances, that show what they're capable of doing. They're happy when they make people happy (Karen herself mentioned a couple of days ago.)

Ahh. GS ate my post. I am trying again.

Kaitlyn and Jean Luc are waiting their turn, which is a thing that exists in ice dance. The Shibs of course skated both segments last Olympics so C/B and H/D had to wait. I have every hope Kaitlyn and Jean Luc will get their medal next time.

As for making people happy, Gracie makes me happy every time she steps foot on the ice. I hope she knows this and is appropriately happy!

My sister (who knows squat about FS) about Kamila: “…and she gets her legs stick straight in the air!!!”

Kelly of the Kelly & Ryan show discussing Kamila in the team event: “.. does she even have connective tissue?!”

I really question Kaori's GOE throughout her FS.🤔 She is constantly scored so low on her jumps.
Almost 150 for a program with no quad, no 3A, only one 3/3 combo, and got called for an unclear edge, and level 3 steps. That was generous, she has nothing to complain about. GOE is about checking boxes, being the longest gets you no extra credit, just satisfying the length requirement is all that's required. Speed is not even mentioned in the bullet points for jumps.

Female Figure Skaters have broke 150 with no quads or triple axels. And Kaori has very satisfying jumps with a beautiful knee bend and great distance. And she also has along with her 3F + 3T a 2A + 3T + 2T combo. It would just be like doing 2 triple/triple combinations and a 2A by itself. Personally, I love Kaori's style of her jumps. Some skaters have great height, not too much distance. Kaori has not a big amount of height, but beautiful distance. This is my take on it though.

Compare her GOE and PCS to Wakaba and tell me who is underscored.

I love both Wakaba and Kaori's skating and am a big fan of both of them. I hope they both do well this Olympics!
I agree. I like them both. I actually think they should both get higher GOE and Higuchi should get much higher PCS. To me, a clean Higuchi beats a clean Sakamoto even without 3A, but that isnt the way they are scored, not close. That's why I said Sakamoto doesn't have anything to complain about.

IMO, I enjoy Wakaba's PCS and her power, especially her 3A. For Kaori, I love her jump quality in and out. I am very excited to see them battle out who gets higher. It may be close, and Wakaba has her 3A as well. I'm excited to watch them soon!

I'm critical of some aspects of PCS scoring for Kaori domestically. She's not my favorite, as you know. However, GOE wise, she really should be getting more generous scores.. No other woman has that speed and flow into and out of jumps. If the judges give Valieva that crazy GOE for her flip/ Lutz jumps and combos with those strange edge issues between jumps, they can be a bit more generous with Kaori's GOEs.

It looks like one of the medal winning teams from the Team Event might be disqualified.

There are no commercials on Peacock Olympics, just a black screen. The commentary is available when the figure skating is on NBC prime time. I actually prefer it without the commercials. And show literally everything, including training sessions. I actually like their coverage a lot, much better that Tokyo.

Again, you don't get extra GOE for having the best speed and flow. That would go to SS in PCS. GOE you only have to satisfy the bullet points. Yea, she is underscored compared to the Russians, everyone is. But she is overscored compared to Higuchi for instance,in both GOE and especially PCS, where Higuchi should be superior.150 is plenty for the content Kaori has.
