Tarah Kayne & Danny O'Shea are U.S. pair skaters. Kayne was born on 28 April 1993 in Fort Myers, Florida, while O'Shea was born on 13 February 1991 in Pontiac, Michigan. Kayne & O'Shea are the 2018 Four Continents champions, 2014 Four Continents silver medalists and 2016 U.S. national champions.

Before teaming up with O'Shea in April 2012, Tarah was a singles skater. Danny's former partners were Jessica Calalang and Christine Mozer.

Tarah and Danny were coached by Jim Peterson and Amanda Evora, in Ellenton, Florida, until the end of the 2017/2018 season. On 7 September 2018 they announced a coaching change, deciding to join Dalilah Sappenfield in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The team announced that they had spilt in December 2020.

Possibly the biggest surprise of the 2015 US championships, this team had only competed once before the 2015 nationals due to Tarah's hip surgery and came out of nowhere to win the bronze medal. I had the chance to meet them after the competition, and let me just tell you that they may be some of the nicest people you will ever meet! I am now a big fan of theirs, and I can't wait to see them compete a full season! While we wait, however, here are some tidbits you may want to check out on them.

Today's LP at Rostelecom was lovely! So happy for them that they were able to pull up from 6th to 4th! I believe it was also a PB for them :cheer:

Tarah and Danny's new SP was awesome today. But their reaction in the K&C to their scores ranks right up there with one of the best ever and should make the highlight reels. So happy for them!!

I also loved it! The only program from nationals so far that I've watched again, or actually that I could ever see myself watching again in the future. Brilliantly done! I can' wait for their long :cheer:

Heyyy no party in the fan fest of the newly-crowned national champions? Congrats to Tarah and Danny! :cheer:

I had no idea who they were before SA, but I don't know why I just fell in love with them during COR. Really happy that they won nationals. Hoping they can perform even better at Worlds and get a good placement.... is a Top 10 finish too much to ask for? :slink: I can dream, can't I? XD

With skates like those? No doubt in my mind. I seriously can't wait for Worlds! :cheer:

I almost cried when the won and I NEVER cry over skating. (And yet I almost cried over them, the Shibs, and Gracie all in one day...)

Tarah and Danny's FS was my second favorite performance yesterday (#1 was the Shibs). That performance was incredible - to know you are capable of winning and then to skate a great program - with so much confidence and joy was GREAT!

I can't get over how many times Danny smiled during that skate. It seems like it is rare in pairs skating for the man to show that much joy and confidence during a competition.

I hope that they take this and use it as more confidence to get better skills and do better in future competitions.

I want to give a hat tip to their coach Jim Peterson: Here is a short interview with TSL after their win. I feel like Peterson is a great combination of attitude, focus, and encouragement. I think I would like working with him day-by-day, especially through the rough times.

I'm looking forward to worlds and clean performances from them then! They're definitely my favourite US pairs team.

Their teamwork and emotional connection on ice are just... gah, they're fantastic. I feel like their COR gala shows us a glimpse of what they're capable of performance-wise. The simple, contemporary style does suit them a lot and I'm in love with that gala... and spread eagles. Lots of them. They should do more programs like these in the future, whether in competition or in exhibitions. I don't mind the POTO program though, I just love their gala much more.

I think I fell in love with them this weekend. Didn't watch even one of their programs before, but when I saw that they won over Sc/K at the US Nationals I had to go see what that score was about - and well, there's a lot of inflation, but their program was amazing. It might be overused music, but it fits their skating so well and they are so nice to watch, such good chemistry, I can see me liking them a lot in the future. And let's talk about content, I really like their layout, their elements, everything in between. I think it's pretty obvious why they won, actually.

Really hoping to see more of them in the future.

I've had a feeling about Tarah:love: and Danny:love: for awhile, and they lived up to my hopes for them in spectacular fashion in St. Paul! I was in the arena, and I can tell you that their SP and FS were, by far, the high points of the pairs. Both times, they got standing ovations that started before they stopped skating. It was their fabulous execution of the programs, GOE and components and all, but there are other things about this team that I love.

They have synchronicity and unison, plus soft arms, that are unusual except in Russian pairs. I've LONG, long, long been hoping for an American pair to show these qualities. Also, Danny has a wonderful "skate big and open" quality. I also noticed that in the half hour practice before the SP, Danny (almost alone among the 4 pairs on the ice) actually looked happy to be there, happy to be performing and showing what they can do. It goes a long way toward pulling audiences into the performance.

I'm in love. Oh, also, I've watched performances since then, and I don't think their scores were inflated much if at all. If you watch Seguin & Bilodeau during Canadian nationals, the elements and scores are very very close. No more or less inflation.

4CC, and our Tarah:love: and Danny:love:, I'll wager, are going to surprise some people here with another fabulous skate.

In case anyone hasn't seen the new SP they debuted at Nationals yet, here it is. I didn't see it in the OP, so sorry if I am duplicating.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1yAjey09NA

I see from reading p.1 that I'm not the only one who's noticed Danny's smiles and how unusual that is. I find when I watch them, in both SP and LP(which has been dozens and dozens of times since Nationals!) my eyes are glued to them both, which is a little unusual in pairs skaters. Another one that comes to mind like that, for me, is Tatiana and Maxim. Kind of a good comparison to make. ;)

By the way, I absolutely love their Music of the Night program; the music is unique because of the Streisand/Crawford duet. It makes a sort of emotional link with them. Has anyone posted the short interview where TSL asked them to "defend" their LP music choice? It's cool: Tarah's reply is direct and a little sassy.
