Earlier, as I was sleepily sipping on my first morning coffee, I read a GS thread with a link to Julian Lee’s Nebelhorn exhibition. It’s a medley of parodies that really put a smile on my face :)thank: BillNeal). What a fun way to wake up. Besides the humour, it was darn good skating too.

I thought, with all the serious debates and :drama: on the upcoming season, minimum age for quads, GOE bullet points, judging, large fed unfair advantages, pre-rotations, under-rotations, blah, blah, blah (albeit very interesting, informative and educational blah, blah, blah!), how about somewhere to share your favourite programs that make you laugh. In other words, a thread of levity to escape. As I am relatively new to GS, this may have already been done in the past, now gathering dust in the archives and I’ve missed it.

Watching Julian’s ballet rendition made me think of Debi Thomas’ “Wanda” routine, even though represented as completely different skill sets.

I would love to have you share programs you’ve enjoyed that were designed to be comedic.

Looking further back in time than recent history, here’s the first few that came to mind:
Kurt Browning’s Rag-Gidon
Scott Hamilton’s 12 Days of Christmas
Ryan Bradley’s Amadeus – amazingly, a competitive program! (…and one of my faves)

Hough & Ladret’s Olympic Fanfare Exhibition – skated at 1988 Canadians in Victoria, BC. I can’t find a video but saw it live and still remember Doug descending the arena steps at its start. I did laugh.

Your turn…make us :laugh2:

I have a bet with myself on how long it will take for one particular routine to be mentioned. I'll let you know if I win (or lose) said bet. ;)

Since Julian has a GP assignement, i hope organizers will invite him for the gala. He knows how to entertain a crowd.
Debi Thomas "wanda" is just hilarious:laugh: pure art.

Capelleni/Lanotte have some fun EXs too.
Marchei/Hotarek barbie girl is funny too.

:agree2: Julian is like Elladj Balde - meant to entertain!

I also agree both of these Italian duos are so adept at comedic routines!

I loved M/H's Barbie Girl, too, and also this 2017 exhibition (among others!) from C/L

Thanks for sharing!

Love these fun threads, thank you!

Here are some off the top of my head:

Cappellini/Lanotte 2016 WC Ex. - Dance of the Hours. One of their many comedic routines. I especially like the little bullfight/matador reference at 3:11.

Zhiganshina/Gazsi 2013 WC FD - Zombies. Don't think anyone else can pull this off as a competitive program.

And is this the program you are thinking of?

If I could 'thumbs up' your message 5 times, I would have. You guessed right! My bet was on having Sex Bomb mentioned within the first 10 posts. So I guess I won, too

Z/G's Zombies was a highlight for me at 2013 Worlds. I marvel at how some can be so effective at comedy in competitive routines. There are have been a number of really good Chaplin programs - one of my faves is that of Barber/Slater at 1984 Worlds.

Nice! Sex Bomb popped up in the controversial programs thread, along with another unintentional funny free dance mainly due to shock ending expression (a little bit 'fowl' even right O24G? ;)).

Fabulous! Wonderful additions!

I've never seen that ex from Anissina/Peizarat :dance2: ...because I missed the entire 2002 Olys due to work commitments.

I was unfamiliar with Barber & Slater until now, so thank you OMR as 'THAT' was lovely! They kind of remind me of Piper & Paul in some ways. The fans in Ottawa loved them also.

Previous time when somebody started a thread about funny programs, I only showed a program by Plushenko which I really liked. I was going to post Yagudin's programs later, but... I didn't do it. So now it is Yagudin's turn for sure. :luv17:

this is "Circus" (music by Schnittke) -1998 SP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyhVqDxkUn4

and even when they were practicing "One-Man Band" (The Nutcracker), almost the only comment from his coach Tarasova was: "He is funny!" - 1999 SP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyoSJKjZums

I love "Blue Canary" (with Averbukh and Sikharulidze) - 2006
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1YvTNcNcsE

Yello (Squeeze please) - 2013
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGHPTmY7ds8

Oblivion - 2014
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nua_BkvmHM0&t=20s

Blues for Klook - 2007
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Coyecjd1-kA&t=40s

he also had funny numbers with girls

"It's Oh So Quiet", for example (with Viktoria Daineko) - 2007

Rina, I have always been fond of Yagudin's skating, so have bookmarked your post to go back and check them all out. I looked at part of the routine with Averbukh and Sikharulidze - that is classy dancing! :)

Many thanks! :thank:

Would you consider Torvill and Dean's "Barnum" a comedy routine?

Actually yes, T&D's Barnum did have comedic elements to it. I am probably one of the few who preferred their Barnum FD to Bolero. Although I did enjoy Bolero, too! 1983 was my favourite T&D year: I still go back and watch their iconic Rock & Roll OSP.

I think Barber/Slater were overlooked and probably underrated since they skated at the same time as their "much-better-known-6.0-compatriots" Torvill/Dean. And yes, I can see some of the Piper/Paul quirkiness in B/S's style. Glad to have introduced you to them! :dance3:
