Sasha and George were in fantastic form winning the British Championships last weekend, so I sincerely hope they can medal here. Probably the tallest couple in Junior Dance.

It’s likely they could! Their SB isn’t far off Andreeva and Desyatov and the Greens last season score.

Their SB is ~9 points behind Andreeva/Desyatov, which is a lot in ice dance (and they beat F/W by ~12 points in Minsk). And the Greens SB from last year was ~ 13 points higher than F/W this season, and scores this year are higher with the new system. So it's not really accurate to say they aren't far off.

But the Greens missed time due to whatever injury they were dealing with, so we don't know what shape they're in. And regardless, the podium should be doable. I think Fear/Waddell should be ahead of the other teams here.

They skated at Sectionals and look to be in good shape:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwjUkN8SboM

The Browns defeated Fear & Waddell at the Kaunas JGP by 10 points. The Greens defeated the Browns at Eastern Sectionals by 24 points. (The Browns missed an element in the both competitions).

Adreeva & Desyatov defeated Fear & Waddell at the Kaunas JGP by @23 points.

Judging by the protocals, I'm guessing Fear & Waddell had a fall in the RD footwork sequence in Kaunas. But even that wouldn't cost them 23 or 34 points. So, yeah, a podium placement would be a good goal.

Righi & Dubrovin have an SB score slightly higher than Fear & Waddell, implying that should be a good head-to-head. They, themselves, defeated Fear & Waddell by 12 points in Kaunas. Taking into account the mucked up footwork for F&W there, though, two clean skates could be quite a bit closer. R&D did defeat F&W, though, by 6 points during the FD alone in that competition.

Portesi Peroni & Chrastecky (who are on the current entry list) earned 133.30 at the Bosphorus Cup, which is a higher score than both those teams, but not in an ISU event. Best info we have though.

So while this is a small field, I guess I would say there are multiple possibilities for the podium based on how the teams skate.

So after checking all of those lovely facts, I looked again at the entry list; and Fear & Waddell are not listed on the list I see from the link on FSU. So possibly they have withdrawn? The list I see was updated on November 30th, and both the copied & pasted list above and the one initially posted on FSU were posted prior to the 30th.

Here's the link I see: http://www.croskate.hr/site/assets/files/1257/juniorid.pdf

That’ll be a shame if it’s true!

6Maria NOSOVITSKAYA / Mikhail NOSOVITSKYISR42.9221.8821.045.335.085.255.335.330.003

Caroline and Gordon were great! They got all keypoints yyyy, yyyy and level 4 on all their elements.

Fear / Waddell's highest RD score was 51.33 at the Czech JGP. The Russians would have scored higher, but he fell on the twizzles. If F/W were hoping for a podium placement, they might have been disappointed if they'd stayed in.

How are you able to find the scores? The results page hasn't updated to show some of today's/yesterday's results.

The "starting order/result details" link doesn't work, but the protocal link ("judges scores" link) on the results page works. It will give you the protocols.

Straight level 4s for the Greens. Wowzers. They very often get the pattern, which was their strength all last season. But they got the 4 on footwork here too.

I copied the protocol results into a spreadsheet in normal ISU format.

Yeah, most senior teams can only dream of that kind of clean protocol!

Greens would probably have been at the JGPF if not for injury this season since this was going to be their breakout year. Next season the battle between the Greens and N/K for top US Junior ice dance team is going to be crazy.

And some of those Russian male dancers will be too old to compete in Juniors next season, so they can clean up in the JGP between them. I still have a soft spot for Gropman & Somerville too. But on first viewing of the Greens programs this season, they lack the magic of Avonley & Vadym.

Avonley is magic. I've always thought so, and I think she & Vadym are coming along as a team so well. Definitely much stronger than last season. But I would never underestimate the Greens. They usually get the pattern, and they are at least as fast as N&K. I do think they have work to do as performers. Their FD this year has some very nice changes of tempo in it, but they need to work on how to express it and make the most out of those dynamics through their movement & facial expressions. My favorite program from them is still their hip hop number. She had some of the best hip hop movement of anyone, I thought. Their new program is a good push. I'm glad they've made it back this season. Should be fun to watch this battle unfold this season, and I hope we get to see it continue well into the future
