Thoughts for the Season:
  1. Can Chock/Bates repeat as US & World Champions?
  2. Will Hawayek/Baker, who are returning to Competition,or Green/Parsons be the US No. 2 for this season? Or will a different team challenge them.
  3. Will CPom continue to improve?
  4. Will the Brown's move to train part time at IAM help them?
  5. Will Jeffrey Chen find a partner? Will Avonley Nguyen?
  6. Will Flores & Desyatov be able to compete for US?

I am really interested to see the movement amongst some of the newer teams and if those seasoned teams (Chock/Bates, Hawayek/Baker) can remain at the top both nationally and internationally. Of all the newer teams, really excited to see if Zingas/Kolesnik can build upon their strong first showing and if they ascend ahead of some of the other teams seen to be the obvious #3 in US (CPom or Green/Parson), as I feel they were underscored at US Nationals last year. Chock/Bates on the world stage will be interesting this year. I really love this team and would love to see them repeat as World Champions - butat the best of their ability and showing what makes them so unique (innovative programs, lifts, etc). Last year felt like a "longevity award" as their content wasn't the strongest I've seen from them. When I look at the world stage I still think they sit at the top of the groups coming back.... But so much will come down to who has the best programs.

The NQS series only has four domestic events, starting this weekend in Dallas. In three and-a-half weeks, three out of the four ice dancing competitions for the season will be done!

July 15 - 17 - Dallas Classic (Plano, TX)
July 31 - 2 Aug - Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships (Lake Placid, NY)
August 3 -5 - Silicon Valley Open (San Jose, CA)
September 21 - 24 - Challenge Cup (Ardmore, PA)

It's getting real.

And in Junior Grand Prix news, Team USA has managed to pick up five second slots. Two teams in Bangkok, Linz, Instanbul, Osaka and Budapest; one each in Gdansk and Yerevan.

Gdansk and Yerevan haven't been announced yet. Feels very likely that USFS will have two spots at those events as well. I just hope that USFS uses their assignments to the fullest. Last season, they used 11/14 spots. One of those missing spots was because Neset/Markelov withdrew from JGP Poland at the last minute since his visa didn't come through, but there's no excuse for only assigning one team to JGP Czech Republic and JGP Poland when the US has tons of young junior teams. In the 2021-22 season, they only used 10/14 spots. That was likely a large reason as to why the juniors comparatively struggled in the 2022-23 season on the JGP, as all of the teams besides Neset/Markelov were debuting on the JGP for the first time.

I want to see young teams like Ilin/Cain and Epps/Gilman, who are junior age-eligible for the first time, get opportunities to compete on an international stage. It feels like a complete and utter waste for USFS not to use their spots to the fullest when they have so many teams who need the experience.

Katarina Wolfkostin and Dmitry Tsarevski should definitely be added in the New Team category. Based on Katarina's announcement, they will be skating in senior dance, though they are both junior age eligible (and skating junior this season would certainly be the smarter choice for more international opportunities, but oh well)

Preach. Also, there has been a real churn this year; there will be next year, too, in terms of new younger teams, trying to find that elusive "forever partner."

Anyone know the status of Molly Cesanek / Yehor Yehorov? They withdrew from US Nationals for personal reasons, at least in part because of everything Yehor was dealing with, with his family in Ukraine. I hope they come back if they wish to. I really like them and am hoping that MIDA will help them.

I did some digging, but came up with little. They have an official website. Not a ton of info there or on either one's IG. I was going to ask Sylvia Unseen, but she no longer accepts messages.:frown:

They are taking donations. I would hope they would take the donation button down if they were no longer skating, but if they don't get a lot of donations it might not be top of mind.

Molly and Yehor were removed from ISP sometime in the spring. My guess is that they are soft-retired (maybe trying to switch federations? but they don't look to be actively training based on social media), since there's no reason they would be removed for poor scores or results. Koncius/Schepetov and Ling/Wein both had very similar season's best scores. K/S also withdrew from US Nationals, just like C/Y.

I'm sad. I did check and neither is on IPS.

Entries and Start orders are up for Dallas Classic: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/nonqual_results/2023/32288/index.html

And (as expected) it's a packed field in both Seniors and Juniors.
Notable partnership debuts: Wolfkostin/Tsarevski (Sr), Anya Lavrova/Jonathan Rogers, Yahli Pedersen/Jeffrey Chen (Jr)
Additionally, we'll see Ling/Wein, Koncius/Shchepetov, Flores/Desyatov and Bratti/Somerville (plus some other teams who mostly represent other countries internationally) in Seniors; and Peal/Peal, Neset/Markelov, Hauer/Starr, Ilin/Cain and others in Juniors.

To my understanding we will not see them …because there is no stream. Hopefully I am incorrect.

What do we know of Jeffrey Chen’s new partner?

There will probably be videos even if there's to be no stream, or at least that's how things have often been in the past

She's the 2019 Solo Dance Champion in Juveniles :) Her mother (I assume) has a number of videos on her Youtube Channel of Yahli's solo dances but also of her doing partnered work.

Flores and Tsarevski with their respective new partners competing against each other. Ice dance drama at its finest. :drama:

Honestly I don't know why everyone doesn't have a stream anymore. It's basically free money.

Yeah, that would not be on my radar. I don't know how you have time to follow Juveniles. I'm retired and don't have that much time. I'm very jealous:)

Ah, I don't really follow them (and especially wouldn't have back in 2019), but I'm a nosy person and like to dig up all available info I can find.

Yahli has an IG which links to an Ice Partner Search profile, which has been archived and includes her 1st place finish in solo dance in 2019.
It also includes her birthday (26th of April 2007), and that she trains at MIDA, which are both interesting pieces of info.

OK, I see...I thought you might have been following juveniles all along, and were just able to go oh yes, she finished 1st in Juvenile solo dance in 2019. I was so impressed!

Sorry to everyone who wanted to see him with Avonley.
