2023 Cup of China is the fourth event of the 2023-24 Grand Prix series and is scheduled to take place Nov. 10-12, 2023, in Chongqing, China. The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six international senior invitational events and culminates with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December.

Competitors collect points in their individual Grand Prix events towards the qualification for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Only the top six skaters/teams in each discipline can qualify for the Final.

Skaters are seeded and invited to the six Grand Prix of Figure Skating events based on the results obtained at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2023. Skaters/teams who have placed first through sixth in each of the four categories are seeded and assigned to two events. Skaters/teams who have placed seventh through 12th at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships are selected for two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. Skaters with a top 24 Season Best Scores (from the 2022/23 season), as well as those placed in the top 24 of the ISU World Standings, can also be invited.

In order for a skater/team to be eligible to compete at an ISU Grand Prix event, a minimum total score must have been achieved in the 2022/23 or current 2023/24 season in an ISU event (Grand Prix, Junior Grand Prix, Championships) or a Challenger Series event. Exceptions apply to host country skaters, previously ranked skaters or split ranked couples who return with new partners.

Anyone know what happened to Mihara? Did she get injured or is she just sick?

It's so frustrating that the wd came so late. There will probably be no replacement for her, and I'm thinking this might have been Mitsuike's chance to get to GPF!!

I believe it was due to an ankle injury she couldn't recover from in time, I'll see if I can find a source for that.

Edit: A link to the .pdf file explaining Mai Mihara's withdrawal in Japanese from the JSF website. Her reason for withdrawal is because her injured right ankle hasn't fully healed yet.

OK, that means that she still might show up for NHK Trophy? But what's the point? She can't defend her GPF title now.

Oh, I so wish that she and her team had decided earlier to wd instead of this late....

I suppose the point would be performing in front of the home crowd, along with getting some world standing points....but that's just my guess.

Yes I know, and we have to respect that. But the other side of me sooo wish that Rino Matsuike had the chance to get to the GPF. Poor Rino, was a substitute for Rika in SC. And she did well! She finished 3rd! But she doesn't have another spot. The last host post at NHK went to Yuna Aoki, which is fine, I haven't seen her for a while. But the Japanese fed had a chance to get a Japanese woman into GPF here, and it looks like it won't go that way...

I noticed from the ISU event page that Eurosport in the UK appears again on the list of official broadcasters. We obviously know that that is not the case. What on earth are these people playing at? Even though the upcoming streams currently appear on the Skating ISU youtube channel in the UK I think we'd better get our VPN ready as these are likely to disappear at short notice (as happened with Skate America).
