2023 Tallink Hotels Cup

The 2023 Tallink Hotels Cup will take place Feb 16-19, 2023, in Tallinn, Estonia, at the Škoda Ice Hall. This international event will feature all the Singles (Women and Men) discipline at the Junior and Senior levels (except for Novice Ice Dance).

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the 2022 ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance, and relevant ISU Communications.

Lots of Finns going there as usual bu I did not find the entries. Finland's entries are at local fed's website. At least now Emmi is on the list. There seems to be a stream. I will be at a trade show next weekend but probably I can watch some at the evenings.

The Tallink Hotels Cup is different to what we are used to, as we have the Seniors and Juniors starting their campaigns on the first day. However, before they start this afternoon, we have a morning with the Basic Novice Ladies. 35 of them, arranged into a group of 6 girls; followed by four groups of 7. Resurfacings after the even numbered groups.

That's a disappointment.

Group 1 was supposed to be 3 Estonians followed by 3 Latvians. But the first and third Latvians both withdrew.

We already know that one of the two Finns entered in this competition has withdrawn.

So, let's hope that there aren't any more late withdrawals.

Speaking of which, any word on Deniss?

I read on the BBC's teletext service (website version) that there were 200 flights cancelled, and the reason was because construction work had damaged broadband cables.

Makes you wonder how airports ever managed to operate in the days before the internet... [sarcasm]

THis competition is organized by Arlet Mother Anna Levandi and tech specialist is Julia Sheiko a good friend of Anna with who she made together last year summer camp.

Wow. The only skater in this competition that is not from the Baltic States or Finland is from Andorra. And there was rather a large amount of chanting when she was coming off the ice!

Despite having 2 falls (1 point in deductions), she went into 12th position out of 29, with just 2 left to go.

And the best bit is that her coach looked like the sterotypical Pyrenean farmer.

The rest of the opening day is spent in the ISU part of the event. Both Senior SP segments, followed by both Junior SP segments. Girls followed by boys in each case.

And we start with the Senior Ladies, where there was supposed to be 18 girls (a group of 6 girls; then a resurfacing; then another two groups of 6 girls). However, Angelīna KUČVAĻSKA (LAT) has withdrawn from Group 1; Maé-Bérénice MÉITÉ (FRA) has withdrawn from Group 2; and Barbora VRANKOVA (CZE) has withdrawn from Group 3. So, it's actually 15 girls, arranged into three groups of 5.

I hope for Niina that she is finally showing what she is able to do. It seems in competition she is more fighting with her nerves than with the technique.

Ach, I was hoping one of Fanny's big sisters would be sitting with her for her results.

Monika was with their wee brother Matias when I saw him a few weeks ago. (By the way, Matias is due to open the Junior Men's SP later on today).

Into 2nd, but a huge 23.34 points behind current leader Niina PETROKINA (EST). And only 1.03 points ahead of current 3rd position, Ester SCHWARZ (ITA).
