No rest for the wicked. We are straight into the Pre-Chicks A competitions. And this is a combined session, as we have a group of 6 girls, followed by a group containing 5 girls and 2 boys.

Since I will be away eating my Sunday Dinner by the time she comes on, I want to direct your eyes towards the very last girl that will be skating in this competition.

Very familiar name, isn't it?

Having only turned 22 a couple of months ago, surely Diāna ŅIKITINA (LAT) isn't old enough to have an Estonian skater named after her!

I know these kids are VERY young, but even so!

When the first wee girl sat down to wait for her results, a grown-up (perhaps her coach, perhaps her mother) came into shot carrying an even younger wee boy, and sat him down on the sofa, while she took a photo of them.

It was just so cute watching the two youngsters!

I bet you they are siblings. They look like each other.

And they both stayed on for the second skater. Although, the wee boy was exploring.

Seeing the grown-up sitting with them, I would now say coach. She doesn't look old enough to be a mother.

Mmmm. When Skater #5 was getting in position, we heard a youngster bawling their eyes out in the background. I hope it wasn't one of the skaters that had already been on crying beause they were upset about their results.

And now that Skater #5 has got her results, it is time for me to get my dinner.

I'll pause it, and play catch-up. Because I am curious about the last girl in this segment!

We've had the Pre-Chicks, now it's time for the Chicks. Three competitions, starting with a double-bill of girls. First up are the 24 Chicks A girls, arranged into four groups of 6, with a resurfacing after Group 2.

I've just reached her, and I take back what I said.

The wee girl is only 6 years old. Of course the Estonian skater is young enough to have been named after the Latvian skater!

It's scary to think that she and most of the other girls in this competition weren't even born when Diāna was winning the Junior Bronze Medal at this very event in 2016!

Awwww. She has the same coach as the first two skaters, and there were two little boys sitting with her and her coach.

She finishes in 8th position.

Kinda appropriately, given who I have been talking about, the competition was won by the Latvian skater, the only foreigner in the field. But, perhaps that is not surprising, as she was the oldest skater in the field, at 8 years old.

Just reached Skater #9 in Chicks A, and forgot to look at her age. And I was curious, because she was wearing a old-fashioned style of dress. So, after she finished, I opened another window to wind back on, and I spotted something. In the chat, a guy with the same surname as this skater had left a comment wishing her good luck!

If you ever needed any proof that it is cruel the way that the stream gets made private the moment the broadcast ends, this is it. Not all relatives of a skater are able to attend the competitions. And if they are not able to watch the stream live either, they don't get to see their skater.

Anyway, she went into the lead.

Just finished Group 3, which was an all-Estonian group. And when Skater #17 was on, my first thought was "Boys, but that is a colourfull dress!"

But then I looked at her again, and I thought "you remind me of somebody". And it only dawned on me when she finished - she looks like a very young version of Elena Ilinykh!

I hope she grows up to skate as well as Elena!

Our Chicks tiple-bill concludes with the two Chicks B competitions. And like the Pre-Chicks earlier, it is a combined session. In this case, 20 girls and 2 boys. We have two groups of 7 girls; followed by a group containing 6 girls and 2 boys. No resurfacings until after the boys.

Wow! Just finished the Chicks A competition, and despite there being only 3 skaters that were not Estonian, we ended up with a Latvian 1-2!

Incidentally, the Finnish skater finished in 5th.

Which means that I am now caught up. However, I remembered about something that I have to do before the top of the hour, so I am going to break away now.

Just reached Skater #6, and the music stopped about 20 seconds into her programme. And she looked over her shoulder towards the officials. And it was a look that would have done Barbara Fusar-Poli proud! She was not impressed. At all.

There was a bit of confusion over where she should re-start from. But, it looked like she was adament she was starting from the start. And she did end up doing that.

This girl is determined. She is going to go far!

Well, she mightn't be able to go too far if she has to carry that cuddly Stitch that she was given. It's nearly as big as she is!

Right, I've just watched the first skater in Group 2, Skater #8, and I think it's her birthday. Well, the coach has come in with a bunch of balloons, one of which said "Happy Birthday" on it. So, assuming that balloon is there for a reason:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!



There was a skater earlier on that had a bigger bunch of balloons, but she didn't have a "Happy Birthday" one.

If it is this girl's birthday, she certainly has a lot of firends to celebrate with. There are 4 team-mates sitting with her and her coach.

And I am afraid I am having to leave again to eat. But I will get back as quickly as I can.

I'm resigned to the fact that I am not going to see the final segment of the day. I would have been alright if they had kept to having resurfacings after every 2 groups, but that ended after the Chicks A skaters.

Just watched the Latvian girl that skated at #10, and I would love to know what the music was, because she was definitely playing a specific character. And if I knew what the music was, it might tell me who the character was.

She goes into 2nd position, behind the girl that had the music issues.

It's now all girls for the rest of the day. We continue with another combined session. But, this one is more complicated as it contains three competitions. Plus I don't actually understand how these levels fit into the greater scheme of things.

We have a Group containing 6 Pre-Young 2012 girls; followed by a group containing 4 more Pre-Young 2012 girls, 1 Pre-Young 2010-11 girl, and 2 Young 2008-09 girls.

I'm not long after watching the last girl in Group 2 of the Chicks B Ladies, and I wish I hadn't.

Skater #14 tripped and fell about 20 seconds before the end of her programme. She hit her face on the ice, and it looked like she had hurt herself because she was bawling her eyes out while doing her last few moves.

And she continued crying for the rest of the time we saw her.

The audience were very supportive of her, throwing down lots of gifts.

When she was waiting for her scores, she had a coach and 2 team-mates with her. And somebody else came in and handed the coach some hankies to try to clean the wee girl up with. The older of the two girls with her was hugging her and trying to cheer her up, but it wasn't working.

She went into last position, which set her off even more.

It was just heartbreaking to watch. I was near crying myself just watching it!

Never in my day did I think I would see somebody skating to the Crazy Frog's version of "Axel F".

But, thanks to the first of the Chicks B boys, that has just happened.

It actually made for a fun programme. But, if anybody ever asks me, I'll never admit it!
