Angelina and Ilia finished 8th out of 20 in the FD, with a score of 90.41. This meant that they dropped to 8th place overall, with a score of 152.56.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Beautiful as always, but not perfect.

There was a few times that they were out of sync. Fortunately, the first of those was during the choreography before their first element, so it won't have a big impact. And there was a point in the closing choreography where Ilia looked to have had a bit of a stumble.

The elements themselves looked good. The GOE section of the TES box was green the whole way through the programme.

Good to see some Cypriot flags in the audience. I hope they realise that they have fans!

They looked disappointed when sitting on the sofa.

Into 4th in the FS with a score of 90.41, and 4th overall with a score of 152.56.

Not their highest scores of the season, but it is better than they got at their Junior GP appearances. So, new ISU PB's for the Free Dance and overall.

:cheer: WELL DONE ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I should add a clarification. When I watched it back again, I realised that one of the Cypriot flags was being held by their Ladies Singles team-mate, Stefania Yakovleva. But, the point still stands.

Honestly, I don't know how they slipped down the order. Even after looking at the Protocols. The Twizzles at the start got -0.10 in GOE and marks of -1 from 3 of the Judges. But, they were the only minuses on the sheet. Four of the Judges gave 0 for the Twizzles, but apart from that there was only one other 0 on the sheet, from Judge 3 for the One Foot Step Sequence in the second half of the programme.

Whilst there was general acknowledgement in the competition thread that it was not the best performance we have seen of this programme during the season, my friend in Australia still wrote:

Well done Team Cyprus! That was great! 🥰

[Typing error corrected]

And I agree. It was not perfect, but it was still great! And it deserved to place better.

Angelina and Ilia finished the FS 1.60 points behind 7th position, Darya GRIMM / Michail SAVITSKIY (DEU), and 6.36 points ahead of 9th position, Eva BERNARD / Tom JOCHUM (FRA). Angelina and Ilia are the bottom partnership in a larger group of five partnerships covered by 5.21 points that stretches up to 4th position, Hannah LIM / Ye QUAN (KOR).

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 1.42 points behind 7th position, Angela LING / Caleb WEIN (USA), and 12.20 points ahead of 9th position, Celina FRADJI / Jean-Hans FOURNEAUX (FRA). Angelina and Ilia are the bottom partnership in a larger group of four partnerships covered by 1.92 points that stretches up to 5th position, Grimm / Savitskiy.

All of which shows that on another day, they could have easily finished in 5th position.

Nevertheless, achieving new ISU PB's all round was a good way to end what was a successful season for them. They have gained a lot of new fans and, along with their team-mates in Ladies Singles (Marilena Kitromilis, Emilea Zingas, Stefania Yakovleva, and Sofia Lapshyna), have really put Cyprus on the figure skating map.

Looking forward to more success next season!

I have have already been posting about the Junior GP assignments in the Team thread as we were going along, but I decided to wait until they were all confirmed before posting in the individual threads.

Angelina and Ilia will be making her Junior GP appearences at the Armenian Cup in Yerevan (next week), and at the final event in Egna / Neumarkt, Italy (4 weeks from now).

Stefania will be joining them in Armenia. And, in the team thread, I have posted links to some lovely videos that Angelina has posted of the two of them on the ice together in Dubai:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/posts/3007028

Angelina has also been posting some pictures and videos of herself in Cyprus, both on her own and with Ilia.

Here are some videos from the rink at MyMall:

Trying to tell us something, kids? :p

For those that don't know, Aphrodite's Rock (known as Petra Tou Romiou in Greek), is supposed to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. And, as a result, it has become a place where couples go to show their love...

Nah, I'd say it's more likely that the reason there are a lot of photos taken there is simply because it's near Paphos, where Angelina lives!

By the way, in the second picture of the final album in that list, you can see the coast road that runs between Paphos and Limassol. And directly above Angelina's head is a lay-by where you can get really good photos of Aphrodite's Rock, and the coastline around it.

But, I digress.

I'm looking forward to seeing what their programmes are like this season. Going purely by the combination of music that they are using, the Free Dance in particular sounds like it could be an interesting programme...

As you may have noticed, I have not been posting about Stefania, Angelina and Ilia competing at this week's Junior GP, the Armenian Cup in Yerevan. The reason is that the event got cancelled, due to safety concerns after over 200 people were killed in fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces at the border.

I decided to hold off posting here until we found out what was happening with the skaters affected by the cancellation.

There were attempts made to re-schedule the event at a later date. However, due to how packed the calendar is at this time of year, with there being no weeks without Grands Prix (be they Junior or Senior) between now and December, this option was not possible.

Consequently, the skaters that were due to compete in Yerevan have instead been re-allocated to the remaining 3 Junior GP's. Which is going to lead to very big fields, very long segments, and very long days.

Stefania had been due to represent Cyprus on her own at the second of the Polish events, the Baltic Cup. But now, she will have Angelina and Ilia joining her.

Similarly, Angelina and Ilia had been due to represent Cyprus on their own at the final Junior GP in Egna-Neumarkt. But now, they will have Stefania joining them.

To be honest, I was surprised that they weren't all allocated to the same events in the first place. As I said in a previous post, I fully expected them all to be going to the Baltic Cup. So, in a way, this unfortunate situation has rectified that.

For us fans, it means we have to wait a couple more weeks to see their season debuts. But, for the skaters, it means a couple more weeks of training and preparing. And hopefully that will pay off.

Angelina and Ilia finished 8th out of 17 in the SD, with a score of 55.75.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Looks like Angelina has come straight here from a night out, whereas Ilia has come straight from the office...

Very strange fall from Angelina just after they started. I don't know where that came out of.

Apart from that, it was very good. The traffic lights were completely green (the fall was well before their first element).

I liked the way that Ilia gave Angelina a hug just after they finished to comfort her. But, to be honest, she didn't seem bothered about her fall at all. She had already moved on from it.

I don't know who he is working for, but as soon as they came off the ice, some guy with a video camera started circling around them in close quarters when they were greeting their coach, Alexei Sitnikov. He was not far off shoving it in their faces. I did not like that.

Into 3rd out of 5, about 2 points behind 2nd position.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

And here is a photo taken in the arena by @NoNameFace during their programme:

Analysis to be edited in when I get the opportunity to re-watch the programme with the protocols.

Angelina and Ilia are currently in an American sandwich, being 0.80 points behind 6th position, Elliana PEAL / Ethan PEAL, and 0.10 points ahead of 8th position, Helena CARHART / Volodymyr HOROVYI. They are at the bottom of a larger group where 7 partnerships are covered by 3.14 points, stretching up to Jordyn LEWIS / Noah McMILLAN (CAN) in 3rd position, 3.04 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia. In fact, the partnership in 2nd position, Darya GRIMM / Michail SAVITSKIY (DEU), are only 2.68 points further up the road, or 5.72 points ahead of Angelina and Ilia

Having so many partnerships covered by so few points mean that all of them have a good shot at a medal. So, if Angelina and Ilia have a good Free Dance, they could move up considerably. And maybe even onto the podium.

Oh, I hope they do!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Free Dance is due to start at 17:10:00 CEST (15:10:00 GMT / 16:10:00 BST). So 10 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the 10th partnership to start. So, second partnership in Group 3 (and second partnership after the resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 18:31:20 CEST (16:31:20 GMT / 17:31:20 BST). So 11h 21m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 18:44:00 CEST (16:44:00 GMT / 17:44:00 BST). So 11h 34m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Angelina and Ilia finished 4th out of 17 in the FD, with a score of 87.49. This meant that they climbed to 5th place overall, with a score of 143.24.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. I watched the whole of the Free Dance on Monday afternoon.

But here are some photos taken in the arena by @NoNameFace during their programme:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/posts/3022978
https://twitter.com/NoNameFace10/status/1578793914701864960

When I first read what Angelina and Ilia were going to be skating their Free to, I was really intrigued to find out what it would be like. Because I just could not imagine those three pieces of music in a medley together! Let's face it, the Bee Gees are about as far away from Run-DMC and 2Unlimited that you can get!

Well, after hearing it, I was right. It was weird. As a Bee Gees fan, I loved the "How Deep Is Your Love" section. But, it just did not fit in with the other two songs.

One thing I do think would improve it would be if Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" was replaced with the song it is actually based on:

Toni Basil - "Mickey"

Not only would it make the combination of songs seem a bit better, but if you watch the video for the song, it ties in so well with what Angelina and Ilia are wearing!

Before they started, Mark explained to viewers the meaning of the numbers on the costumes that Ilia (19) and Angelina (60) were wearing (I know, it should have been the other way around!) 1960 was the year that Cyprus became independent from the United Kingdom. However, he missed the significance of the colour of the costumes. Cyprus has been known for it's copper deposits from ancient times. And, depending on who you ask, either the island is named after the metal, or the metal is named after the island. Regardless of which is the correct, the colour of copper is a national symbol of Cyprus. Which is why, when the flag was designed, it showed a copper coloured aerial view of the island on a white background, with green olive leaves (symbolising peace between the two communities). And, in turn, this is why Angelina and Ilia's costumes are green (albeit a much darker shade) with copper and white highlights.

What this all has to do with the programme, though, I have no idea. Because all the music was from much later! ("It's Tricky" was 1986; "How Deep Is Your Love" was 1977; and "Get Ready" was 1992).

That all said, the skating was very enjoyable. And they looked to be having the time of their lives out there.

When you look at the protocols, there wasn't a single minus on it, be it from the Judges or in terms of GOE. Three elements even got GOE higher than +2!

The first of these was actually the first element, the Curve Lift-Rotational Lift combination. And boys but it looked good! It got +2.33 in GOE. In terms of Judges marks, five of the Judges gave it +2; three of the Judges gave it +3; and Judge 6 gave it +4!

The Diagonal Step Sequence In Hold also looked good to me. It got GOE of +0.89 and mostly +1's from the Judges (Judge 1 gave it +2, while Judges 4 and 9 gave it 0) . This was the last element to be done during "It's Tricky".

The first element during "How Deep Is Your Love" was the Twizzles. And, I actually thought they got out of sync in each of the sets. But, my eyes must have been deceiving me. The GOE was lower at +0.51 and, like the previous element, most of the Judges gave +1 (Judge 8 gave them +2, while three Judges gave them 0).

There was a moment during the next element, the One Foot Turns Sequence, when it looked to me like they were supposed to be synchronised, but were not. Perhaps that is why this element had the lowest GOE of the programme, at +0.41. Four Judges gave it 0; another four gave it +1; and Judge 9 gave it +2.

The Bee Gees section finished with the Dance Spin, and it looked fine to me. It got GOR of +0.89, and the Judges were pretty balanced, with four giving +1 and five giving it +2.

The final section, to "Get Ready", was where the programme came alive, with the Choreographic Step Sequence and the Choreographic Dance Lift. Angelina even did a bit of Cossack Dancing during the former, although she had a bit of trouble getting up! And Ilia jumped over her shortly afterwards.

The Step Sequence got the highest GOE of the programme, at +2.96, and also got the highest marks from the Judges, with four +3's; four +4's; and a +5 from Judge 1! The Dance Lift also got a high GOE of +2.13, but the Judges were more subdued, with two +1's; +2 from Judge 3; five +3's; and +4 from Judge 6.

It was a fun end to the programme.

Angelina and Ilia finished the FS 3.55 points behind 3rd position, Jordyn LEWIS / Noah McMILLAN (CAN), and 0.72 points ahead of 5th position, Iryna PIDGAINA / Artem KOVAL (UKR). Angelina and Ilia are at the top of a larger group of five partnerships covered by 4.01 points that stretches down to 8th position, Noemi Maria TALI / Stefano FRASCA (ITA).

Overall, Angelina and Ilia were 1.20 points behind 4th position, Pidgaina / Koval, and 1.37 points ahead of 6th position, Elliana PEAL / Ethan PEAL (USA).

After seeing how good their programmes were at their first appearance, this is going to be a strong season for them. And we don't have long to wait to see them again, as they are doing back-to-back Junior GP's.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Although Angelina and Ilia did not make it to the Junior Grand Prix Final, there is cause for celebration. Because today is Angelina's 17th birthday!!!

:cheer: С ДНЕМ РОЖДЕНИЯ АНДЖЕЛИНА!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb: 🎂

I hope she has an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one, both on and off the ice.

She posted on Wednesday that she has returned to Cyprus, and is looking forward to spending time with her family, having not seen her younger brothers for 4 months.

She also said that she will be spending a couple of days (yesterday and today?) up in the Troodos mountains cheering on her Dad in a bicycle race.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST SERGEY!!! :cheer:

Anyway, I hope that Angelina is having a great week back home in Cyprus with her family. And in particular that she has a great birthday today.

Angelina and Ilia finished 1st out of 13 in the SD, with a score of 63.58.

Unfortunately, the Junior SD was on when I was having my evening meal. And with the Formula 1 having a Saturday Sprint race this week, it meant I wasn't able to catch-up later that night.

Analysis to be edited in when I get the opportunity to watch the programme.

Angelina and Ilia finished the FD 2.74 points ahead of 2nd position, Iryna PIDGAINA / Artem KOVAL (UKR), and 2.90 points ahead of 3rd position, Karla Maria KARL / Kai HOFERICHTER (DEU). Behind the German partnership is a 7.71 point gap to a trio of partnerhips headed by Natálie BLAASOVÁ / Filip BLAAS (CZE).

With the Top 3 being so close together, it means that all the steps on the podium are up for grabs. So, Angelina and Ilia will have to have a good Free Dance to make sure that they keep hold of the Gold Medal.

Oh, I hope they do. It would be a great achievement for them and their former Cypriot team-mate Emilea Zingas to both win Ice Dance competitions within days of each other.

Bosphorus Cup Short Dance: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Angelina and Ilia finished 3rd out of 8 in the SD, with a score of 56.88.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Well, my kids have definitely halted the recent trend of partnerships going into last position.

They are definitely going into the lead!

That said, there was a little collision near the end, where they were closer to each other than they thought. But, it shouldn't have much of an impact, if any, on the score.

Long wait for the scores. I'm starting to get worried now. After all, I got it totally wrong for Stefania's FS.

Third. But, they are only 2.09 points behind 2nd position, and 2.99 points behind the leaders.

:cheer: WELL DONE ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

Analysis to be edited in when I get the opportunity to re-watch the programme with the protocols.

Angelina and Ilia finished the FD 2.09 points behind 2nd position, Sofiia DOVHAL / Wiktor KULESZA (POL), and 2.05 points ahead of 4th position, Gina ZEHNDER / Beda Leon SIEBER (CHE).

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Firstly, the Provisional Entry Lists for Junior Worlds have been published, and Angelina and Ilia are unsurprisingly on them. Incidentally, so is Stefania.

This morning, I should be posting a reminder post for Angelina and Ilia competing today in the Short Dance at the Ephesus Cup in İzmir, Turkey. However, as we all know by now, there were two massive earthquakes in the east of the country on Monday morning. And, understandably, the event was cancelled.

My thoughts go out to all the people that have been affected by this natural disaster.

Since we are in a thread that talks about skaters from Cyprus, my particular thoughts go out to friends and familes of the 7 Cypriots that are already known to have died. And also to the people of Famagusta in Northern Cyprus. A school there had sent their boys and girls volleyball teams to Adıyaman to compete in a tournament, and the group is now missing after the hotel they were staying in collapsed.

Let us all hope for a miracle.
