Barbora KUCIÁNOVÁ and Martin BIDAŘ are Pairs skaters who represent the 🇨🇿 Czech Republic.

Barbora Kuciánová was born on 8th April 2007 in České Budějovice, South Bohemia, 🇨🇿 Czech Republic.

Martin Bidař was born on 24th February 1999 in České Budějovice, South Bohemia, 🇨🇿 Czech Republic.

Yes, we have a pair of Budweisers!

Martin was the 2016 Junior World Champion with former partner Anna Dušková.

This is going to be a slightly different Fan Fest. There is already a post about Martin’s Singles career in the thread for his former partnership with Anna Dušková. So, rather than repeat everything here, the additional OP’s in this thread will focus on Barbora.

Consequently, rather than having just one “Original Post”, this Fan Fest has three!

The first post (this one) is for the current Pairs partnership.
The second post is for Barbora’s former partnership with Lukas Vochozka.
The third post is for Barbora as a Singles skater.

Barbora and Martin finished 10th out of 11 in the SP, with a score of 50.79.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the programme yet. But, looking at the Protocols, it looks like there was only really one major problem.

Their third element, the Throw Triple Flip, seems to have not gone right. There were no falls indicated, so it must have been an awkward landing. It got negative marks from all the Judges, with -4 from Judge 1; three -3's; and three -2's. It also got a massive -1.38 in GOE. Fortunately, because it had by far the highest Base Value of the programme, it still managed to be the third highest scoring element of the programme.

Going back to the start, and they opened with a Double Twist. And to say that the opinions of the Judges varied would be an understatement. Judge 5 gave it -4; two Judges gave it -3; Judge 7 gave it -2; two Judges gave it -1; and Judge 1 gave it 0. It got the second biggest GOE hit at -0.56 and, because it had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it ended up as the lowest scoring element.

There was only one other element that got minus GOE, and that was the Change Foot Combination Spin, which got -0.28. However, the Judges marks for this were not too bad. It got -2 from Judge 6; four -1's; 0 from Judge 4; and +1 from Judge 7.

Everything else seems to have gone well, with positive GOE and positive or neutral Judges marks. The only exception to this was Judge 1 giving -2 and Judge 6 giving -1 for the Forward Inside Death Spiral.

Barbora and Martin are currently in a French sandwich. They are 1.22 points behind 9th position, Océane PIEGAD / Denys STREKALIN (FRA), and 9.47 points ahead of 11th position, Aurélie FAULA / Théo BELLE (FRA). Barbora and Martin are at the bottom of a group of 6 partnerships covered by 5.20 points, stretching up to Milania VÄÄNÄNEN / Filippo CLERICI (FIN) in 5th position.

There is little danger of them dropping positions. But, there is a very good chance of them climbing if they put in a good Free Skate. Perhaps even to a Top 5 finish!

So, let's hope the different versions of "Wicked Game" (a song I love) does the trick and propels them up the order!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs SP is due to start today at 13:30:00 CEST (11:30:00 GMT / 12:30:00 BST). So 6 hours from now.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 13:30:00 CEST (11:30:00 GMT / 12:30:00 BST). So 6 hours from now.

Barbora and Martin finished 8th out of 11 in the FS, with a score of 91.86. This meant that they climbed to 9th place overall, with a score of 142.65.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the programme yet. But, looking at the Protocols, you can see that there was one particular part of the programme where there were issues. And that was just after the opening element (which was a Double Twist that went fine).

Looking at the protocols, I'm not actually sure what they did for their second element. It appears to be three jumps done in sequence rather than in combination. The first was a Triple Toe, and it appears to have been followed by two Axels. However, whilst it says that the third jump was a Single Axel, it doesn't say how many rotations there were to the middle jump. It just says "A". Whatever it was, the Judges gave it three -3's; three -2's; and a -1 from Judge 5. It also got the second biggest GOE hit of -1.01.

The third element, the Triple Salchow, was where things really went wrong. It was under-rotated, and there was a fall. Unsurprisingly, all the Judges gave it -5. And it also got the biggest GOE hit of -1.72.

The fourth element, the Throw Triple Flip, also had no plusses, but there is no indication as to why. The Judges marks were -2 from Judge 1; four -1's; and two -2's. The GOE was -0.42.

And apart from two -1's for the Reverse Lasso Lift, that was the end of the minuses. Everything after that was either positive or neutral.

Barbora and Martin finished the FS 3.65 points behind 7th position, Milania VÄÄNÄNEN / Filippo CLERICI (FIN), and 2.75 points ahead of 9th position, Océane PIEGAD / Denys STREKALIN (FRA).

Overall, Barbora and Martin were the middle partnership of a close group of 3 partnerships covered by just 1.85 points. They were 0.32 points behind 7th position, Anastasia VAIPAN-LAW / Luke DIGBY (GBR), and 1.53 points ahead of 9th position, Piegad / Strekalin. There were large gaps on either side of this group.

One of the comments in the competition thread was that it was "Easy to see the partnership is quite new. They were very slow." That is to be expected. Not only are they a new partnership, but it is very early in the season. But, the speed is something that should improve as the season goes on, and they get more familiar with not just the programmes, but themselves as a partnership. (Of course, they have been training alongside each other under Martin's brother for years, so they are certainly not strangers!)

There were also comments about how good a Pairs Skater Martin is, and how good it is to see him back.

So, putting all this together with the success Barbora had in her previous partnership with Lukas, I am feeling very positive about how things will go for Barbora and Martin later in the season.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Barbora and Martin finished 9th out of 10 in the FS, with a score of 83.97. This meant that they dropped to 9th position overall, with a score of 132.90.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE. However, two of the members that were watching did post about Barbora and Martin in the competition thread. So here is what they wrote, starting with my Australian friend:

Ooo Martin B is a handsome fella, that blue looks good on him.

And here is a more detailed comment about the programme from another member:

Barbora took 2 hard fall on same the hip. :console:
That lasso lift was almost a disaster good that he got her down safely.

So, it sounds like things did not go to plan. And looking at the Protocols confirms that. The falls were on consecutive elements, which wouldn't have helped things for her.

The first fall came on the third element, the Triple Salchow. Unsurprisingly, they it got -5 from all the Judges. It also got the third biggest GOE hit at -2.15, which made it the lowest scoring element of the programme.

The second fall came on the fourth element, the Throw Triple Flip. It also got -5 from all the Judges. And it got the second biggest GOE hit at -2.65, which made it the third lowest scoring element of the programme.

The Reverse Lasso Lift was the ninth element. It got -5 from six of the Judges, and -4 from Judge 4. But, it got the biggest GOE hit of the programme at -2.70, which made it the fourth lowest scoring element of the programme.

In case you are wondering, the second lowest scoring element was the eighth element, the Throw Double Salchow. But the GOE wasn't too bad, at -0.30. It just worked out that way because it had a low Base Value to start with.

Barbora and Martin finished the Free Skate 4.68 points behind 8th position, Irma CALDARA / Riccardo MAGLIO (ITA), and 4.38 points ahead of 10th position, Letizia ROSCHER / Luis SCHUSTER (DEU).

Overall, Barbora and Martin were 3.89 points behind 8th position, Caldara / Maglio, and 6.82 points ahead of 6th position, Roscher / Schuster.

Although it is a good bit less than they scored at the Lombardia a month ago, it is still a good bit higher than they scored at the Performance Reviews. Nevertheless, it's not what they would have wanted. But, they don't have long to wait to have another go, as they are entered for the Diamond Spin in Katowice, Poland, in just 2 weeks time.

Hopefully things will go better then.

I apologise. I forgot that Barbora and Martin would be competing at the Tayside Trophy in Dundee, Scotland, today and tomorrow. So they are now starting the second part of back-to-back-to-back competitions! :drama:

Barbora and Martin finished 2nd out of 5 in the SP, with a score of 54.63.

Unfortunately, I was busy at the time that the Pairs competitions were on, so I was not able to watch Barbora and Martin LIVE. But I have now caught up on them on the archived liivestream so here is a comment along the lines of what I would have written if I had been watching LIVE:

Both wearing purple and charcoal grey costumes, and they look well. Can't say I know the song they are skating to, though.

Opening throw and catch went well.

Martin lost it in the sychronised jumps. And hand down for Barbora in the throw they did shortly afterwards.

Way out of sync the whole way through the combination spins.

But everything else was good.

Is that Ondřej Hotárek sitting with them? It's hard to tell who's face is under that beard and hat!

Boys, but Barbora was going through the emotions. Upset, angry, stressed, worried.

That was funny. They sat down. Then when the scores came up, they all went over to the screen for a better look. And then they sat down in a different order to what they started off in.

Into 2nd position with 54.63 points.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

Meanwhile, here is a comment that was posted in the competition thread at the time by our fan of pretty dresses:

K/B. Good outfits and program. They seem really well matched. :bsplit:

And here is a comment from another member:

Damn, K/B missing Worlds SP TES minimum by just 0.19. Well, there are still a few competitions they could get it at.

Perhaps Barbora knew instinctively that they had not got the minimums, and maybe that was why she was so worked up. But, they were close and there are plenty of opportunities left for them to do it. Not least next week in Katowice.

Barbora and Martin are currently 10.77 points behind 1st position, Sara CONTI / Niccolò MACII (ITA), and 3.93 points ahead of 3rd position, Anastasia VAIPAN-LAW / Luke DIGBY (GBR). Vaipan-Law / Digby are at the top of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 1.56 points stretching down to 5th and last position, Milania VÄÄNÄNEN / Filippo CLERICI (FIN), who are 5.49 points behind Barbora and Martin.

Although it looks like Barbora and Martin are a safe bet for the Silver Medal at the moment, it is not quite as safe as it looks. Barring a disaster from Conti / Macii, nobody is going to catch the leaders. But, if Barbora and Martin make a mistake or two, they could be caught by the group behind them. And given how tight that group is, last position is not out of the question.

So they have to make sure that they put in a good Free Skate to avoid that becoming a possibility.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is is due to start at 11:54:00 BST (10:54:00 GMT / 12:54:00 CEST). So 5 hours from now.

Barbora and Martin will be the 4th partnership to start. So, second and middle partnership to go in Group 2 (and penultimate partnership to go in the segment).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 12:12:30 BST (11:12:30 GMT / 13:12:30 CEST). So 5h 18m from now.

Barbora and Martin are due to start at 12:25:00 BST (11:25:00 GMT / 13:25:00 CEST). So 5h 31m from now.

Barbora and Martin finished 4th out of 5 in the FS, with a score of 90.77. This meant that they dropped to 4th position overall, with a score of 145.40.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE due to watching the final round of the British Superbike Championship. And a music copyright claim had already been slapped on the Sunday morning stream by the time the bikes finished.

Fortunately, one of the Dutch members posted comments about all of the Pairs partnerships, so here are her thoughts:

No issues with lifts with Barbora and Martin (although Martin had a difficult look on his face with one of them) but some strange missteps at the end - no falls, no element, but a shame non the less.

Looking at the protocols, I can see what she means. There were a lot of minuses from the Judges and the Technical Panel in the final third of the programme. The penultimate element, the Group 5 Reverse Lasso Lift, seems to have gone well. But the elements around it didn't.

But, the biggest problem was actually early on in the programme. The Throw Triple Flip. It got -4 from two Judges; -3 from Judge 1; -2 from Judge 4; and -1 from Judge 5. It also got by far the biggest GOE hit, at -1.59.

Barbora and Martin finished the Free Skate 5.93 points behind 3rd position, Milania VÄÄNÄNEN / Filippo CLERICI (FIN), and 4.09 points ahead of 5th position, Nina OUELLETTE / Rique NEWBY-ESTRELLA (USA).

Overall, Barbora and Martin were 0.44 points behind 3rd position, Väänänen / Clerici, and 8.10 points ahead of 5th position, Ouellette / Newby-Estrella.

That must have been heartbreaking, to miss out on the SP minimum TES by less than a quarter of a point, and then to miss out on an overall medal by less than half a point. But, they don't have long to wait to have another go. Just a few days, in fact.

They already have the FS minimum TES, so hopefully they can get the SP minimum TES in Katowice, and then they can just concentrate on doing the best they can for the rest of the season without having anything hanging over them.

Diamond Spin Senior Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Barbora and Martin finished 3rd out of 8 in the SP, with a score of 51.79.

Unfortunately, I was busy at the time that the Pairs competitions were on, so I was not able to watch Barbora and Martin LIVE. And the Diamond Spin is one of those events where the stream not only doesn't let you re-wind, but also goes private as soon as it has finished broadcasting.

And, unfortunately, nobody who was watching commented on how they got on.

However, looking at the Protocols, it was a performance of extremes. The things that went well got very high marks, and the things that didn't go well got very low marks. There was no middle ground.

The main problems were the second and third elements. I don't know what happened with the Triple Toe, but it got -3 from all the Judges; and the second biggest GOE hit at -1.26.

But, I do know that there was a fall on the next element, the Throw Triple Lutz. It got -5 from all the Judges; and the biggest GOE hit at -2.65. This meant it went from being the element with the highest Base Value to being the lowest scoring element of the programme! :drama:

Barbora and Martin are currently in the middle of a group of 3 partnerships covered by 3.02 points. They are 1.40 points behind 2nd position, Ioulia CHTCHETININA / Michał WOŹNIAK (POL), and 1.62 points ahead of 4th position, Federica SIMIOLI / Alessandro ZARBO (CZE).

Given the size of the gaps on either side of this group, these three partnerships are fighting it out over these three positions. And, given how tight together they are, any of them could finish in any of the three positions.

So, Barbora and Martin need to put in a good Free Skate to try to move up a position to claim the 🥈 Silver Medal, and also to make sure that they don't drop off the podium to the 🥔 Potato Medal position!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is is due to start at 14:47:00 CEST (12:47:00 GMT / 13:47:00 BST). So 7 hours from now.

Barbora and Martin will be the 6th partnership to start. So, second and antepenultimate partnership to go in Group 2 (and antepenultimate partnership to go in the segment).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:23:00 CEST (13:23:00 GMT / 14:23:00 BST). So 7h 36m from now.

Barbora and Martin are due to start at 15:36:30 CEST (13:36:30 GMT / 14:36:30 BST). So 7h 49m from now.

Well, I'm afraid that Barbora and Martin withdrew before the Free Skate. So, they didn't win the 🥈 Silver, 🥉 Bronze or even 🥔 Potato Medal. They dropped down to 7th position overall.

I hope their withdrawal isn't an indication that the fall on the Throw Triple Lutz resulted in an injury.

Whatever the reason for their withdrawal, all the best to them. And I hope they are back to their best form whenever we next see them.

Barbora and Martin finished 2nd out of 3 in the SP, with a score of 56.07.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Well, there's certainly plenty of support from the audience!

First throw nicely done. Side by side jumps nice too! And the next throw. And the lift.

Ach, everything was very good. And the run of green squares attests to that.

I know it's been a while since I saw them, and my memory may be deceiving me. But I think that is the best I have ever seen them!

Oh, I wish they had a camera for the skaters getting their scores. I want to see if they are happy.

There is no doubt in my eyes that they are going to lead.

Mmmm. They don't. They go into 2nd, 8.80 points behind the leaders, and only 0.96 ahead of 3rd position.

Well, I still thought they were very good!

:cheer: WELL DONE BARBORA AND MARTIN!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what another British member wrote a little while later while playing catch-up:

Kucianova and Bidar looked really good.

The Protocols tend to agree with us. All the GOE's are adding to the scores. And there are only three negative Judges marks, all of them -1's. The only reasons they are so far behind is that the leaders got bigger GOE's, and a few of the elements had higher Base Values.

Barbora and Martin are currently 8.80 points behind 1st position, Maria PAVLOVA / Aleksei SVIATCHENKO (HUN), and 0.96 points ahead of 3rd position, Joulia CHTCHETININA / Michał WOŹNIAK (POL).

Being realistic, it looks like the 4 Nationals title is out of reach. But, with Joulia and Michał so close behind, Barbora and Martin are still going to have to put in a good Free Skate to make sure they win the 🥈 Silver Medal.

So, let's hope that they do.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Pairs FS is is due to start at 18:25:00 CET (17:25:00 GMT). So 10 hours from now.

Barbora and Martin finished 3rd out of 3 in the FS, with a score of 95.77. This meant that they dropped to 3rd position overall, with a score of 151.84.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the time:

Is Barbora getting taller?

Really don't like this version of "Wicked Game" (I love the original, though).

Lovely Double Twist to start with. An the jump sequence they did next was too. And the Triple Salchow that followed as well.

Babora had a lovely landing on the throw, but Martin put too much oomph into throwing her and fell himself.

But they made up for it with the lift that followed. And the spins.

Ach, Martin couldn't get Barbora fully up when doing another lift. And had to put her down.

No such problems with the final lift.

What they did well, was done very well. But those two mistakes are going to be costly.

I think that has decided that the Medal that they get will be Bronze rather than Silver. Joulia and Michal weren't that far behind them afte the SP, and they had a good FS without any visible mistakes.

Yep, Barbora and Martin drop to 2nd.

Such a shame about those two mistakes.

But, since the rest of their programme was very good, I'm going to say this anyway:

:cheer: WELL DONE BARBORA AND MARTIN!!! :cheer:

And here is what another British member wrote:

Shame about Martin's unusual fall and the aborted lift. Much better than her falling from the lift, though.

Looking at the Protocols, it was all about those two elements that went wrong. The Group 5 Reverse Lasso Lift that got aborted was classed as an invalid element, so they got absolutely nothing for it.

The Throw Triple Flip that Martin fell on got -5 from all the Judges. But it also got the biggest GOE hit of the programme at -2.65, which took it from being the element with the second highest Base Value of the programme to being the lowest scoring element of the programme.

When you take away those two elements, there was only one minus number in the whole protocols. That was a -1 from Judge 7 for the Group 5 Toe Lasso Lift, which was the lift that I mentioned that followed the fall. But, it was an anomaly because the other Judges gave it two 0's; three +1's; and two +2's. And it got the third highest GOE of the programme at +0.52, which made it the second highest scoring element of the programme.

Incidentally, the highest scoring element was the jump sequence that they did as their second element, the Triple Toe-Single Axel-Single Axel. It already had the highest Base Value of the programme, but the GOE of +0.42 just added to it. In terms of Judges marks, it got +1 from seven Judges; and +2 from Judge 8.

The Choreographic Sequence that they did as their sixth element was the best element according to the Ptrotocols. It got the best Judges marks, with 0 from Judge 3; +1 from two Judges; and +2 from the remaining five Judges. And it also got the highest GOE of the programme, at +0.83.

Barbora and Martin finished the Free Skate 10.70 points behind 2nd position, Joulia CHTCHETININA / Michał WOŹNIAK (POL), and 35.54 points behind 1st position, Maria PAVLOVA / Aleksei SVIATCHENKO (HUN).

Overall, Barbora and Martin were 9.74 points behind 2nd position, Chtchetinina / Woźniak, and 44.34 points behind 1st position, Pavlova / Sviatchenko.

Of course, their Free Skate, and probably their 4 Nationals as a whole, is going to be defined by the fall and the aborted lift. But, credit where credit is due. The rest of their Free Skate programme was very good. And so was their Short Programme. So, let us concentrate on that aspect of the week instead.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:
