Yay Charlotte :cheer: first Swedish gold, no question! Marit silver and Kristi Pärmakoski bronze. And young Ebba(SWE) fourth in her first real senior season. Great first cross country competition.... pretty big audience in the stands. I'm exhausted...

Oh, they get small cute Sohorang tigers at the ’flower ceremony’.

Whilst it would have been nice for her to carry the flag yesterday, I'm sure she's much happier to win the first medal of the Olympics!

She timed pulling the pin perfectly.

Felt sorry for Bjoergen not being able to get away with her. But, let's be honest, if it was anybody else in the same situation, we would be going on about what an achievement it was for her to get a silver. So, let's focus on that.

The women will be back in action on Tuesday with the Sprint. And there will be a good chance of another Swedish Gold there too, with Nilsson also in the mix.

Norway will be desperate to stop that happening.

I watched the race on TV. When it was over eurosport switched to UK commentators(do you know their names?). I found it interesting to listen to them for a change, instead of hyped nordic experts. For what it's worth, they thought Bjørgen was relieved with the silver. I agree. Now she knows she is in the game. Lots of chances left. The most disappointed must be Norwegian Weng(9th) who leads the world cup.

The British Eurosport commentators were Patrick Winterton (former Cross Country Skier, 1 time Olympian) and Mike Dixon (former Biathlete, 5 time Olympian, and father of current Biathlete Scott Dixon). They normally comentate together on both Cross Country and Biathlon, and have a great chemistry together. Just like our figure skating commentators.

The fact that Patrick was commentating on the Opening Ceremony was actually the reason I chose to watch it on Eurosport yesterday rather than on the BBC with Robin Cousins. But, he wasn't as good commentating on the ceremony as he normally is commentating on ski races.

That is why I was happy Eurosport have the rights to the Olympics now, because their English-language commentators are fair and do not get biased. Unlike the BBC, where everything is about Team GB.

Glad you enjoyed Patrick and Mike on commentary. I expect that they will be back in an hour and a half from now for the Women's Sprint in Biathlon, if you want to join them again.

If I could choose. Must stick to TV broadcasts as I have limited surf and can't watch all I would like online. So Eurosport broadcasting decides the language for me. That’s why it was a nice surprise to hear Patrick and Mike. They must be thrilled to have a better than ever Musgrave to cheer for :)

David Goldstrom and Mike Dixon on commentary today (I assume Patrick Winterton will be doing the Biathlon with Mike straight afterwards, and they kinda need to have somebody sitting in the commentary box from the start of the broadcast! So, with no Ski Jumping today, David was called up).

Just wanted to see what was going on so I turned on my TV and who do I see? Tonga Man!!!

He came 115th out of 115th skiers but he finished and only 22 minutes behind the winner! He certainly skis better than me.

:clapper: Congrats Tonga Man!

Men 15 kilometer:
Gold Cologna (SUI) best when it counts
Silver Krüger (NOR)
Bronze Spitsov (OAR)

This was the race with skiers from the no-snow countries. 118 participants, German Madrazo (MEX) last, almost 26 minutes behind Cologna. I wonder what the required qualification was.

Tomorrow is women’s relay(4 x 5 km). Norway is the outstanding favourite. But after Charotte’s gold/silver in skiathlon/10 km and Stinas sprint gold(!!!) it’s going to be exciting to se if Sweden can challenge. Finland and US also have good teams and OAR might surprise. I saw the sprint medal ceremony where Belorukova got her bronze coin. She was very, very happy :) beside a crying Stina and a calm Falla(NOR).

Only his second time on snow apparently. He trains on rollerblades! He said his goal was to finish before they turned the lights out

Bonus: He also said how his olympics career is just beginning and he will continue to compete in both the summer Olympics!

Prayers for Tonga who was just hit hard by a cyclone

Never got a chance yesterday to comment about the result of the Women's Individual.

Firstly, before the race started, our commentators were saying that Bjoergen was going to be at a big disadvantage as she was the first of the seeded racers, and so wouldn't be getting split times for the other big guns, and be able to adjust how hard she was going based on how they were getting on.

And that is exactly how it turned out. Everybody in the top 12 apart from Nechaevskaya in 10th started after her. But, at least she still got a medal out of it.

Great result for Haga. Her first medal at a Senior Major, and it's an Olympic Gold! (Admittedly, she has won races at U-23 Worlds. But, I'm counting that as an age level competition rather than a Senior level competition...)

And I have to take my hat off to the North Korean girl, Ri Yong Gum. Last to start, and on her second lap we saw a shot of her going so wide out of a corner that she ended up falling over the edge of a small cliff. But she managed to gather herself up (it took a while), and finished the race. And she wasn't even last.

That's determination! Well done!  :points:

Mother Marit two medals already! Love how she was a role model and later a friend to 7 years younger Charlotte.

Kikkan Randall, Katja Visnar(SLO , father olympic champion Hattestad) and Kaisa Saarinen(FIN) also back from child birth. Not the same results as Marit yet, but kudos! What will be of all these babies?

Meet Alaskan Kikkan and Breck

She is the only mother out of 244 athletes on the US Olympic team while there are 20 fathers competing.

ETA well... hmm.... I can't believe there are only 20 fathers

Thank you - I didn't realise that Visnar and Saarinen had kids as well.

Yes, it is always fascinating seeing how kids get on if they follow in their sporting parent's footsteps.

Different sport, but I'm just waiting to see what Domracheva and Bjoerndalen's daughter turns out like! Because with that mix of genes, she is sure to be a champion of the future!

It's "Super Saturday" on British Eurosport, where there are chances of Britis winning medals. Which means that the ski sports that normally take priority are getting relegated.

Currently half way through the Men's SP, so going to try to get it finished before I head out.

EDIT: No, changed my mind. Just looked at the Time Schedule realised that I won't quite get all of the skaters watched before I head out. BUT, the cross country WILL be completed in time. So, I may as well watch it LIVE and then not have to worry about seeing spoilers. ;)
