Norway wins the relay! :cheer:  :points:

But that wasn't right. Jacobsen shouldn't have been selected for that race when she wasn't fully healthy.

Norway was in the leading group at the end of Oestberg's leg. But when Jacobsen took over, she dropped way back during her leg. And after the handover, she was laid in the middle of the track trying to catch her breath for a VERY long time. Mike even commented a few minutes after the handover that he was shocked that nobody had yet come over to see if she needed any help, because she was still lying there.

And when we did eventually see her up on her feet, she did not look healthy at all.

Get well soon Astrid.

Anyway, Haga did a great job at getting Norway back into contention. And then Bjoergen took over, and we had a great tactical battle between her and Nilsson, before Marit finally broke Stina's challenge on the run to the line.

Marit really showed everybody who's the... mummy!

I loved the way that the other Norwegian girls were being so supportive of Jacobsen after the race. Anybody could see that Astrid was feeling bad for how her leg went, but they were reassuring her. And they are right. It wasn't her fault that she wasn't well. And, at the end of the day, they got the job done, so it didn't matter.

Well done!

Two very exciting relays over the weekend. The Norwegians had to work really hard for both their victories, I expected them to stroll to both titles but it was far from it. They really seemed to struggle on the classic legs both days, I wonder was their a problem with the waxing?

Once again Kalla had a great leg to give Sweden a lead after leg two but Haga got Norway back into and Bjoergen went for it on the final leg and just about broke Nilsson. I was very impressed with the Russians, a team of youngsters that showed no fear. I was very concerned for Jacobsen, she seeemd in a very bad way when finished, she just lied on the track bit no one seemed to come near here.

On the Men’s side, Russia’s 3rd leg struggled but no one was going to beat Klebo on the final leg. Hard to believe that was their first victory since SLC in 2002. The French had a great ski for 3rd. I’ve been very impressed with the Russians here, they have picked up a good few medals.

One thing that has worried me slightly is the disclosure that the Norwegian team has turned up with 6,000 treatments for Asthma. One report said that 50 - 70% of their team are asthmatic. All is legit as their have TUE’s but still I’m not so sure. It certainly would give a big advantage.

I also enjoyed the Men’s 15k freestyle. The camaraderie between the back markers was amazing. They all waited for the Mexican to finish to cheer him on. The Tongan, Bolivian (who had a Norwegian sounding name, Grunlund), Moroccan and Portuguese guy were all there. As the he finished they were having the venue ceremony and the medalist congratulated all the guys, a great Olympic moment.

PS Turns out he didn't finish last after all, what a boss!

I LOVED that story. He stuck around to congratulate the skiiers who came after him. They interviewed him and he said "Win a medal, don't win a medal, just participate and have fun! Adore him!

Toni - you've even more reason to celebrate. Kikkan Randall just won a Gold Medal in what is rumoured to be her final race before retirement!!!

That was an epic end to the race with nothing to separate the USA, Sweden and Norway on the run to the line. But, Jess Diggins just pipped Stina Nilsson, with Maiken Caspersen Falla a few steps behind.

Absolutely brilliant! Well done to all of them!

YUP! Alaska's pretty excited about our Kikkan, she's been a major celebrity for a loooooooooooooong time now. SO excited for her. She is also the only mother on the US Olympic Team, and she has said locally that this is her last Olympics.

Cheers for Jessica and Kikkan and good for the sport. First US olympic gold in cross country. I’m not surprised about Diggins, but surprised and impressed with Kikkan who has struggled a bit lately.

OK, so I didn't notice that because it's the final day of the Olympics, the Women's 30km Mass Start was on earlier in the day than the rest of the Cross Country races. :palmf: :slink:
