They did it! I didn't always believe they would, but yesterday I had a feeling it would happen for them. They did it, you guys. Beyond proud to be their fan and to have experienced their journey over the last few years

The feel of pride is really there, indeed.

I think that they risked a lot before 2015/16 season, with this change of direction in their material and approach to it - but the response got from fans about it and getting new people by their side really spurred them further with new energy and enthusiasm towards every aspect of skating I feel. This season was probably the hardest - it was high/low pretty much all the way, but they did not back off from the path and fans stuck with them. This FD performance was a result of their hard work and dedication, individuality in approach, doing things for themselves - and it was a gift for all of us.

Yes. I remember 2012-2014 people criticized them because of their vlogs, people said that they should practice instead of vlogging, it was so annoying :scowl: because everyone know that Maia and Alex are so hard working, Alex edit the videos on his free time and the main point is that they started it as a way to document their adventures for themselves, just like their dad wanted document every especial moment. It was a plus share all those experiences with fans.

The Shibutanis admit they do get sick of each other sometimes:

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMPETING AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MID-MARCH?
M: We’ll make a decision in the next few days with worlds. It’s been very exciting to see the amount of enthusiasm and excitement based on the Olympic success. It will really just depend on the timing and the opportunities we have.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT 2022 YET?
A: Only because everyone’s been asking us! It was one of the first or second questions we got in the mixed zone after winning an Olympic medal. We were asked in 2014, and we said, “We don’t know what the future holds!” and that somehow turned into the headline that the Shibutanis may retire.

I remember how sad I was with that comment and thinking they for sure would retire :palmf:.

4. Siblings can get along (and win medals!)

As a mother, this is mind-blowing. My kids can’t even make a peanut butter sandwich together without fighting. But the Shibutani siblings, Maia and Alex, have been skating together since they were kids and won the bronze, becoming the first U.S. siblings to win an Olympic ice

Some points:
Maia and Alex were roommates in the Olympic village, The girl was like: you can´t get a break from each other!!. Okay, I thought it always was girls with girls and boys with boys. Apparently, it is not like that or maybe they only make exceptions with siblings.

They have not seen I, Tonya!! How? :noshake: I loved that movie.

Both are singles and Alex has not had a successful relationship so far :eek:hwell:

They are asked, who is more likely to win DWTS? Both: ME :furious:

Alex did not know that Maia eats cereal bars before the competitions? :disapp: Even I knew that answer

Who of them is the most competitive?Alex: ME Maia: Alex, but I'm ready to surprise

Maia is the favorite child , it is the usual, right? in my family, the youngest is the favorite too.

And Alex explain why he does not like to talk about his celebrity crush.

First, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS to Maia and Alex on their two OBMs!!!!! :hap10: :cheer2:  They really went after that individual OBM with all they had!!! I'm THRILLED that they finally skated that FD how they wanted to and that we got to see it in its full glory!!! To all the people who thought the FD was not right for them or too boring or too whatever, I say, TAKE THAT!!! :yes2: They did skate with attack and abandon in both FDs, and the Individual one was even better than the Team one. After watching all four programs from Pyeongchang, I realized that both of their programs this season were about celebration. Celebrating life, celebrating having fun, celebrating their sibling bond, celebrating their joy of skating together. The FD did not feel as celebratory and free earlier in the season, but at the Olympics they got it just right. The SD was immediately amazing and stayed that way every time they skated it.

The skating aside, I loved seeing how emotional they were afterward. The Sports Illustrated article where Alex couldn't get a full sentence out and Maia was siting next to him with tears streaming down her cheeks said it all. Notably, though, the tears were not about winning the medal but about the whole journey of their lives. The tears came because they both were being reflective and watching videos of themselves as kids. I am so happy that they had such a fulfilling experience in Pyeongchang, in more ways than one. They have a great perspective on their lives and what's important. What great skaters and great people they are. I am so proud to be a fan of them and share in their journey from afar. The dance event as a whole was very emotional for me.

Second, some news. The Shibs will not be going to Worlds, and will be replaced by Hawayek&Baker. I am a bit sad to not get to see them again, but really, they've done the programs to their utmost already. They deserve all the time they need to do whatever is best for them. I am also very happy that H&B will finally have an opportunity to go to Worlds. The press release from USFS: http://www.usfsa.org/story?id=91354&type=media

I think they'll be live here in 10 minutes if anyone's interested!

I watched most of this - caught about 20 minutes. I thought the interviewer did his homework - asking about working with Korean students, their social media presence.

Alex looks like he needs a nap. They gave no indication about retiring although seemed to want to weigh opportunities coming their way post-Olympics.

After watching interviews that they have done recently, I feel that Beijing 2022 is something that they are seriously considering? It definitely sounds like they're at least sticking around for a few more seasons after this one is done.

As for them not going for Worlds, I can't say that it's a complete surprise, considering that they haven't gotten back into their normal swing of things (training, etc) after Olympics ended. It's just been non-stop media for them since they returned from Pyeongchang that it makes me feel exhausted just watching them!

Exaclty, they never go to competition unprepared and right now they have no time to rest, less to train. And it says a lot that it is precisely Alex who is mentioning often that they are still young and even they could participate in 5 olympic games , because honestly I thought if someone was thinking about retirement was Alex.

Seriously?!!! :hpull: They have not had time to rest and he can not sleep? I would be able to sleep during a rock concert on some embers :bed: :dbana:.
