Wow! Very nice fields indeed. Especially ladies field! Evgenia, Elena, Gracie, Rika. Also I guess it's the first senior international debut for Diana Nikitina. :)

My early ladies predictions (why not ):

Evgenia wins gold (obviously), Elena wins silver, and bronze will be a fight between Rika and Dabin (and maybe Gracie if she's back in form).

I'm hoping Leonova, Rajicova and Kuchvalska will join that fight too... :-D

I know Evgenia started her season here 2 years ago, but that was her senior international debut... now that she's got the reputation I wonder why she would come back to a challenger series event ... ? Not complaining though--there's never enough Evgenia!! :luv17:

What's wrong with competing in a challenger event? It does give extra ranking points.

Indeed, it's not a "backward" step to compete at a Challenger or Senior B competition. Many top skaters start their season that way, and have been doing so for years.

It's a good opportunity for skaters to try out their new programs in competition before the GP series starts, and earn some ranking points while they're at it. Actually it seems it's almost required now, if a skater wants to keep a high World Standing and be considered one of the elite.

Mind you... with more and more top-level participation - especially since the Challenger series was created - it's getting harder to get those ranking points...! Some of the competitions this season (and the last few), have (had) such deep and high-level fields of competitors... they're pretty much Grand Prix standard...

And in some cases it costs as much or more as one (*cough* Lombardia *cough*).

Yes, that makes a lot more sense. Very eager to see Zhenya

I like Dima very much, but I'm super happy for Sergei. He's getting another chance to show what he's got up his sleeve. It seems to go well for him at the mo. Long may it continue!

At least it doesn't seem like Dima's injury is too serious...I'm disappointed, but glad that Sergei gets to go, hope he's had enough rest after competing last weekend.

Aliev's coach said. "He felt pain in the foot, now he is being examined, while it is unclear how much will have to be restored. He had problems with rolling shoes, but then everything was normal and everything was in order. But now there was inflammation in the ankle."
