this one would be closest to the brandt centre I think

this place has a lot of space, and the cathedral area isn't too too far away, don't know if it's walkable:

This place is pretty good, but it's much too far from the brandt centre:

There aren't a lot of places close to the arena.

^^^Thx for the restaurant list. This is great!...One other question -- Does anyone know if this arena has a tendency to be warmer or colder? I know, weird question -- but sometimes arenas do have a reputation. Just trying to figure out what jackets, sweatshirts, etc. to take. Thx in advance.

Strange question, but one year we were at US Nats in an arena that was SO warm. We were wishing we had much lighter weight clothing. I'm kind of close to the ice where it's generally colder. I guess I'll just plan for layers but would still love to get some "words of wisdom" from anyone who is in the know.

I would love to know this as well as this is my first skating event!! Another off topic question: for practice do we need to stick with our assigned seats or can we stand near the rink for pictures? And are we allow to bring food?

I have never had to sit in my "official" seat at a practice. Last year at Sk Canada we sat wherever we wanted. I always have some food in my jacket pockets. Sometimes they are very lenient about food and coffee because none of the concession stands are open. If there's an email for the Brandt Center, they could probably answer that.

First skating event?! Awesome! We are in for a treat. By your screen name, I wonder if your favorite skater is the same as mine!

@Arriba627: if that favorite skater is named Shoma Uno, then yes :luv17:. I'm still very new to this forum (and really skating world), so I cannot keep up to Shoma's forum :p Thank you for your tips. see you in SC :)

Tomorrow I am going to call the Brandt Center about the food on practice days. I am also going to ask (again) if the arena has wi fi. They already said no, but I'm still hoping! Whatever info I find out, I will post it here. Just nine more days 'til the Prince of Winter.

Thank you!!! I never understand why arena or big event like ISU SC would not offer free WiFi. Wouldnā€™t it help the sport more if more people shares the event?

Another off topic question, is there any bag restriction or camera restriction? I donā€™t know what I can bring or not. Thanks in advance :)

Brandt Center says concession stands will be open for coffee and other things during practices. I still bring my own stuff in my pockets for snacks. And I don't drink coffee so...usually try to bring my own Diet Coke. Answer is still no on Wi Fi. Only Sask Tel customers will have it...I was still hoping. At Helsinki Worlds they told me no (at first) but then they did get Wi Fi. Sigh. One week from right now we'll be at practice. Can't wait!

ETA - Also just learned there is a Tim Horton's on the premises that opens at 7 am.

Thank you for the useful information! I'm wondering if we can attend practice on other days besides Thursday with all-event tickets? For Skate America, it says "the all-event ticket includes access to official practice from Thursday through Saturday," so I'm wondering if it's the case for Skate Canada as well. I see that there are other practice sessions scheduled on Friday and Saturday, so I would like to know if we can attend those practice sessions. Any guesses are appreciated! Thanks!

OMG Yes!!!! Thatā€™s really all I really need (though I wonder how many Tim Horton I can actually eat in a day.

Back to this topic, is there a list of food place within the brendt center?

CONCESSION FOOD AND BEVERAGES

Brandt Centre concessions, located around the arena, serve up everything from burgers, pizza, hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy to local favourites like deep-fried mac 'n' cheese bites, jalapeƱo pretzels, taco in a bag, mexi cactus fries and a much more. Coca-Cola beverages, Great Western beer, Corbyā€™s spirits and a variety of other drinks and sweet treats are also on the menu.

We accept cash or credit cards at every concession. ATMs are available in the arena for debit card users.

Above is what I found about the food on their web site...Not sure about the practice tickets. We have the Thurs one, but maybe our Fri and Sat event tickets get us into the practices. I usually just carry all my tickets with me. I figured I would just ask someone when I'm there Thurs what the practice ticket situation is.

It's been a while since I've been to an event. Normally I think we can bring our own snacks, like trail mix and such. but I am not so sure about sandwiches and things. Can anyone confirm? It's been a long time since I've come to a competition event since Vancouver 2010.

I think it will be a fun time!

Ok I've been to the Brandt, but it's been a while. So heads up there is a weather system moving in on Wed night, so it will be wintery Wed nite and Thurs and then it will warm up. So, layer layer layer. The rink will be warm probably on Sat but not for practices, it will be cool. And your all event ticket includes practices, and usually you can sit wherever you want. Courtesy of course, if you happen to sit in the tix holders seat and they appear, just find another spot. Practices aren't ever busy, so there is room for all. :) Just keep your practice ticket with you, it gets you into all of them.

There is a football game right next door on Fri night, so if you're renting a car parking will be fine, but it might be a bit busy.

Wifi........some rinks have it and others don't. I was looking to see if they had it and they don't. So, don't plan on it. You'll have to use your cell phone's pkg if you want to access the net. I'll try and look in before I leave tomorrow.
