I figure I would start a thread where people at the arena can post practice reports. It almost makes this seem like a real event.

I never missed a practice session from 2004 through 2006. I've come to believe that what you see in practice and what you see in competition are vastly different.

Has anyone seen skaters landing quads and 3As in practice and still in comp?

Has anyone seen a skater having trouble with a jump in practice but landed it in comp?

I think it can go either way. Michelle Kwan was famous, in the later part of her career, for having lots of difficulties in practices, but when it came time to deliver, all the problems miraculously disappeared.

On the other hand, at the 2006 Olympics, Shizuka Arakawa dominated all the practices, doing one triple-triple combination after another. By the time of the actual competition, Slutskaya and Cohen were quivering in their boots, knowing that Arakawa was going to blow them away. So in the actual performance, Shizuka only had to do 5 triples, no triple-triples, and let the competition self destruct.

Yes, but toward the end of her competitive career, she was leaving out many of her elements, some in which she was famous for.

Kwan had a serious hip injury, and she left out the elements which caused her the most extreme pain. I don't see what that has to do with this competition.

Yes, many times. and the other way even more. I don't think Jeremy Abbott landed one clean triple axel in practice at worlds... and i think he did one decent one in the event.

Cool! This is the type of fluff competition to try new tricks and go for broke. It's not like under-performing at this event will tarnish anyone's reputations with the judges, I don't think.

I'm not there, but Tanith and Ben reported that all the skaters look very tired at the practices.

That is against the rules. Ladies may do only 2A in the SP.

According to the ANNOUNCEMENT for the WTC event, Rule 510 will be used for the SP.

Rule 510 for Ladies:
a) Double Axel Paulsen

If Mao does a 3A in the SP, she will get a deduction for an illegal element, and she will lose all points for the element.

She can do the 3A in the Combination. :p

She did that, in some junior competitions!

But she has to do the 2A because it is required, and in the SP there is not supposed to be any repeat of the same type jump.

According to interviews:

Mao will do 3A-2T, 3F, 2A in the SP.
She can do both 3A and 2A - the rule about repeating the same kind of a jump only applies to triples. I've seen skaters doing both 3T and 2T all the time, and Mao already attempted 3A combination in the short program (at Junior Worlds 2006 she went for 3A-2L, but singled the loop). Yukari Nakano landed 3A-2T in the short program once:

Miki will do 3Lz-3L in the SP, and wants to attempt 4S and 2A-3L in the LP.

Nobunari said that the quad feels good in the practice and he wants to do 4T-3T both in SP and LP. He wants to skate programs worthy of a team leader.

Taka is considering going for 4T in the LP, but isn't quite sure yet. :)

I'm confused.Laura Lepisto did 3T-3T in SP at the European Championships. Isn't this a repeat of same type jump?

Team Japan seemed to think of WTT as a trial competition for next season.:)
