Ah, and here's something soothing for the soul -- the whole Kiss and Cry of Shoma and Stephane. I just love Stephane's soothing, calming attitude. I was beginning to think there wouldn't be enough room for them both in the Kiss and Cry, what with all the stuffed animals being thrown!

As always, I'm really into the bear thing. How cute is this?!

Looking forward to the free tomorrow. He seems to be in a good place! I'm just so sorry that he wasn't able to get his programs in May or June like he usually does. Given that he only received these programs at the end of August, beginning of Sept., he needs a little more time to get them fine tuned. Definitely a work in progress though, and I can't wait to see what shape they're in by the time Nats are here! Very exciting!

Go Shoma! Kill it tomorrow in the free! :party2: :cheer:  :party2: :cheer:

Thx Oshun for your comments on NBC Gold. I thought maybe it was my computer. I'm guessing they were overloaded because everyone wanted to see Shoma! Boy, it was buffering, sticking, skipping, etc. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Darn -- geoblocked for me. I'll have to rewatch on NBC Gold. Speaking of that, did anyone else watch with NBC Gold? Everyone looked slow to me! Wondered if anyone else had that impression and if it was the stream and not the skaters.

NBC Gold stream today was awful even the replays were lousy. Whatever the problem was I hope it is fixed soon. Wishing Good Luck to Shomajesty in the FS tomorrow!

Oh no, I'm just about to try the replay. I'll probably end up getting all mad and frustrated!

Very happy to see Shomajesty closer to his old form today! I really liked good program, weird music and all. How cool was that step sequence!

The time zones work out so I'll be able to watch the FS tonight too.

Goooo Shoma! :cheer:

I'm rather late to Shoma's troubles. Could someone bring me up to speed on why he left his former coach and why it has taken so long to find another coach? thanks.

Is Stephane the new coach of Shoma now? Or Stephane just accompany him at K&C?

Shoma hasn't officially announced a new coach yet.

Quoting Tsurara's kind translation from Post #15035 here in Shoma's FF, Shoma describes his current situation with Stephane in the pre-Rostelecom interview, as transcribed by jiji.com reporter, Ryota Hasebe-san:

Re: Mr. Lambiel, "It's not that I have decided on a coach yet. But it's Stephane's kindness/courtesy (to sit with me at K&C for me). It's about my feelings, like, including (my concerns like) not being able to deliver a good performance in competition (without a coach) and various other things, and so, it's such a (precious) opportunity (to have him stand there for me), and so (I wouldn't blow it and) I'll have him stand there for me this time (at Rostelecom Cup). Note: Shoma is using lots of honorifics there to show his appreciation and respect to Stephane Lambiel, I can't translate the level of honorifics appropriately in English.

Re: a sense of ease by having a coach, "In Switzerland too, sometimes I wasn't doing too well, but you know, (it was different.) when I'm all on my own in such times, I would end up thinking too much. (But I wasn't alone and it was different.) He's truly nice. Stephane is, really. So, what I want from a coach is not their technical expertise, but instead something like feelings (mental stuff)." <continued to the following tweet>

6: https://twitter.com/beeeryo/status/1194927767235842048
"I have always felt that I want to train under someone I feel grateful to, or more like, someone I feel like I want to show a great performance for. So, I'm guessing (the reason why I decided to have him stand there for me at this competition was that) he is someone who is very close to that."

Stephane himself was interviewed after the SP yesterday, and his answers was transcribed as well by Hasebe-san:

https://twitter.com/beeeryo/status/1195488298564751360
-On the possibilities to be a main coach for Shoma
“We will think about it and we will decide, but first we need to finish this competition and then go to the Nationals, and then we will decide."

Lambiel, what a champ.

Shame about the language barrier, I think they could be a good pairing. Lambiel could just use broken English to communicate (this isn't rude, it's practical), cut out all unnecessary grammar and use only key phrases. Alternately, JPN fed can hire a translator for him. Did Mao ever have a translator when she was coached by TAT or Raf?

Shoma did talk about his current situation re: language barrier (again, quoting Tsurara's translation):

Re: him communicating in English (with Stephane), "No, no, I really don't understand (English). [laugh] Before (my run-through for) free, he said something to me real fast (in English), and I heard him saying "spin blah-blah-blah" thingy. I just figured he meant that I could skip spins. So, I said 'Okay' and that was it. I just hear some words I know and then I (try to) guess what he means, something like that."

Stephane also elaborated more:

https://twitter.com/beeeryo/status/1195488294261403648
https://twitter.com/beeeryo/status/1195488296446648322
-On the difficulties to communicate with him in English
“No, not at all. We have a long relationship because we did many shows together. And our feeling is very similar. We have a sort of tip so I can explain him a little bit, the movement with some images, and I can show him a little bit, and I give him a very specific words like a direction with your right side, or I give him easy words."

Just want to say, really thankful for Hasebe-san's transcription on his Twitter of these interviews, because it's so nice to have all the words of the skaters/coaches verbatim collected in one place.

What a fight from Shoma! It's a shame his quads didn't work out for him but he showed incredible spirit nonetheless and a SB. Nice to see him happier after his skate compared to IDF.

Thanks to Stephane for coaching and supporting him in this comp. I'd be more than happy if Shoma chose Stephane as his coach.

Shoma even had the presence of mind to try and wing a 4T at the end of program to replace the missed 4F. Haha.

I was like - oh oh, he just glide thru the 2nd jump, there goes the 4F. Lets see where he'll fit in another jump.

Congrats Shoma on the 4th Place at Rostelecom Cup! #potatomedal

Honestly that last 4T... I have to quote Jackie Wong (@rockerskating):

I'm in the corner.
Watching you add a quad toe.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

But seriously, new SBs, the 3As are back and running, and of course, the bar is back in business thanks to Mr. Stephane Lambiel. Onwards and upwards!

I honestly thought Shoma deserved third at Rostelcom-his component scores were so underscored compared to the field. But maybe it is a blessing to not get him close to qualifying for the GPF (it would have been a stretch anyway). He needs to go home-whereever home is and get those jumps back. Stephane would be a spectacular coach for him and Switzerland a lovely training site.

Good fight, Sho! That last minute 4T
Step by step.

I’m so happy he’s going to Switzerland before Nats!

He would have been easily third, if he didn't abort the second jump, as STephane said, maybe a triple, anything  but the positive vibe is everywhere, I am sure things will continue to move in the right direction if he stays with him. After all, just a week wasn't enough a time to turn around the whole world. Today's result showed he is back on the right orbit anyway. It's all good, Shomuchka :luv17:
