Suddenly, Satoko (19) is the oldest Japanese lady trying to qualify for her first Olympics. :shock2:

Congratulations to Kanako for a wonderful career. I hope she fully enjoys her post-skating career.

She will always be the 2013 Worlds silver medalist to me. She had the best short and free program performances after Yu-Na Kim. Beautifully choreographed programs, and well-deserved standing ovations for both performances.

I'm glad she got a final appearance/goodbye at WTT. Hopefully Mao will get something like that too, maybe at next season's Nationals.

There are plenty of Japanese ladies 20 and older that are still trying to qualify for their first Olympics.

Haruka Imai hasn't retired, for starters…

I'm talking about skaters with realistic possibilities to qualify. There are only two spots after all. :)

And you included Kanako in the mix before she retired?

Did you give Mai Mihara a realistic possibility of going to Worlds this year?

No, I didn't include Kanako in the mix. Her retirement simply made me realize how young the Olympic candidates are.

And yes, I did give Mai Mihara a very realistic possibility of going to Worlds. She and Wakaba were the only other Japanese ladies (sans Satoko) who medalled in the Grand Prix.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the holy trinity of Akiko, Mao and Kanako? I can't believe all three of them are really gone for good....this was my favourite Ladies team, ever. All three of them were artists on ice, even if the jumps were problematic. I looked forward to their programs each time and often go and rewatch their videos on youtube. It's an end of an era for me, I doubt I will ever be as invested in a trio like them. Loved them all so much. What are your favourite programs, seasons of these three? For me it's 2012/2013 season. Such a joy to watch...all of them.
